I live here on the coast of Maine and have been renting a cottage locally for the past few years so my grown children and grandchild can enjoy it with us at their convenience. This year I wanted to try someplace different and chose to stay at Jacks cottage which I am very glad I did. Jack was very accommodating, he even allowed me to check out the place before I booked it so I knew it had what I was looking for. He was great to answer any questions and was always reassuring that he was just a phone call away if needed.
I was able to have my family over for a lobster dinner (without charge for additional quests) and this cottage offered adequate parking and plenty of room for sitting and dining in the large screened front room away from the elements. The kitchen island is great for setting up as a buffet for entertaining and has shelves underneath to offer additional space for whatever room you may need.
The screened front room was my favorite place to lay in the lounger with my first cup of coffee in the AM and listen to the loons, birds and the chatty little red squirrels rustling about. My husbands favorite place was in the row boat with his fishing pole of course. All of us that were fishing caught a fish and had many lost bites as well. Mine was caught near the dock as I was reeling in my line no less. My son caught a 22" Bass where Jack informed us to drop our lines. The fish are definitely jumping here - you can see and even hear them!!
This cottage is quite spacious- plenty of room to move around and to put your stuff. The area is very private as it sits nestled in the trees at the end of the road and central to all coastal towns. We spent our days swimming and fishing to end them with a campfire for s'mores. I have to say- I think I have found my new "Favorite Spot"- I do plan to return again next year and I hope it's for another week more as I surely didn't want to leave. I can say for the time I spent here I was "Lucky Enough".....
Thank you for sharing your cottage Jack! Keith and Susan Robinson.
We spent an amazing week at this cabin/cottage. Had 4 adults and 2 kids and were plenty comfortable sleeping. If you are looking for a fancy, amenities filled spot, this is not for you! If you want a rustic feel to your stay, peace and quiet and the most amazing views (sunrises and sunsets), then consider this paradise! Owner Jack is easily accessible and quickly answers any questions you have. We used the row boat and rowed over to the other side of the pond and grabbed up some wild blueberries! We spent several days visiting various sites (Bar Harbor, Camden Harbor, Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, etc...) and everything was an hour and a half away or less. In-laws flew in from Colorado to stay with us and the Portland Airport is only an hour and a half away! Smores every night at the outdoor firepit was great as well! Can't thank Jack enough and we are looking to possibly make this an annual or every other year visit!
Staying at this cottage gave my family and myself some great memories of visiting Maine. Fishing, swimming, canoeing was so enjoyable the kids did not want to leave. The photos are not updated, there is a new dock and to our surprise a floating dock the kids swam out to and jumped off. We took a day trip into Bar Harbor and Arcadia, only 2 hours away. We enjoyed being on the lake away from the hustle of it all. The screened in porch was wonderful for playing games, meals and coffee in the morning with the beautiful sunrises upon the lake. Jack was great at giving tips on where the big fish hide even though we had no problem catching some small ones right off the dock!
This property provided us and our children with an incredible stay. Access to boat/canoe phenomenal. Kids able to play on lake. Felt very safe. Fishing was good. S' mores around the campfire will be a fond family memory. Spent the one rainy day we had having a great day watching movies and playing board games (provided) with family. Ate every meal on porch with spectacular view and loons serenading us. Despite dated furnishings every thing was super clean. Host Jack was very attentive and always available if needed
This cottage was just what we hoped for. It is located on a beautiful, clear, swimmable, fishable lake that is within 30 minutes of the coast. There is so much to see and do in the Midcoast area, that we have to come back for more than the 5 days we had available. The cottage is not fancy, but offers decent beds (bring your own pillows), a screened porch overlooking the lake, a cozy living room and outdoor necessities like a fire pit, gas grill, dock and swim platform, and both a canoe and rowboat (which we used with our own trolling motor). The owner is extremely friendly and helpful-- telling us where to drop our fishing lines for guaranteed success-- and he didn't charge extra when we asked about bringing our dog. We hope to return back next summer--if not sooner.
