Grandfather House Rental Photos and Description

4 Bedrooms, 3 baths-2 king beds, 4 twin beds, and 2 comfy sofas.

Our home is located inside the Grandfather Golf and Country Club resort which boasts the second highest ranked golf course in North Carolina. Only world famous Pinehurst #2 is ranked higher. Our home's warm interior provides a casual but upscale space to relax. Upon entering, you will find large widows and sliding glass doors giving a 180 degree northwesterly view offering beautiful evening sunsets. Relax on the deck with a loved one and a beverage of your choice and watch the sun disappear behind the mountains. Sitting high off ground, the home has an open, yet very private feel.

The main floor features: A private master suite with a king size bed, cedar walls and a full bath. A second bedroom with a king size bed and its own full bath with a double vanity. An open fully-loaded kitchen. An elegant dining room with mountain, woodland view. A spacious living room with large leather couches around an enormous two-story stone fireplace with a 55” HD TV over the mantle.

Left of the fire place is a beautiful iron spiral staircase which accesses upstairs bedrooms and a balcony. The balcony has a quaint, comfy reading chair, office area and TV. We provide wired high speed internet in the office and a router for wireless hookup anywhere in the house. The two bedrooms, each with two twin beds, share a large, full bath with a double sink vanity.

During the six month season from May until October when the Grandfather Golf and County Club is open, renters can enjoy all the amenities of the resort upon payment of daily usage fees. Amenities include the Championship Golf Course (par 72), the Mountain Springs Course (par 58), a fine dining restaurant, a bar with a covered deck overlooking Lake Dornie, a beach club with games and activities for children, boat rentals for trout and bass fishing in lake Dornie, an indoor and outdoor tennis complex, a workout facility and a sports complex. For more information about the resort community.

For the winter season, our mountain getaway is perfectly located to enjoy the best of the North Carolina's ski slopes. We are a ten minute drive to Sugar Mountain Ski Resort, twenty minutes from Beech Mountain Ski Resort and twenty minutes from snow tubing and the zip line at Hawksnest Resort. There are many places to cross country ski or just take a leisurely walk in the midst of the gorgeous scenery inside Grandfather Golf and Country Club.

You can hike right out of your back door to a trail that leads to McRea Meadows, home of the famous Highland games. If you are feeling adventurous, you can hike the Profile Trail and climb the majestic peaks of Grandfather Mountain. Of course, it's much easier to drive to the Mile High Swinging Bridge at the top of Grandfather Mountain which has many of the same views. If you are a backpacker or just want to hike for a day, the Appalachian Trail passes about ten miles away.

If you have children, you will want to visit Mystery Hill, the Gem Mine or the popular Tweetsie Railroad for memorable family fun. Enjoy good food from a vast array of nearby restaurants. Don’t forget to stop in the Mast General Store on the way home to satisfy a sweet tooth craving. There are too many amazing places in close proximity to list!

With unparalleled quality and comfort, this is the perfect place for family fun or some peaceful and very private relaxation. The home will warm your soul in any season and make your vacation a wonderful and memorable experience.

About Georgia Hayes

Roger and I are both from North Carolina. He was a Duke University football player and I was a UNC Chapel Hill Homecoming Queen You can imagine the rivalry in our household during March Madness! We have been married 44 years. Since we both grew up close to Charlotte (Monroe and Gastonia), we decided to raise our family there. The mountains have always been our retreat. For Roger, being an avid golfer and outdoor enthusiast, this was a perfect place. Needless to say, it was “love at first sight” when we discovered this lovely mountain home. We knew immediately that we had to have it. At that time, Roger worked for Bank of America and I owned a software business. We have both since retired and have spent many summers here in bliss. We have wonderful memories at Grandfather Golf and Country Club and know you will enjoy it as much as our family and friends have! -Georgia “Peach” & Roger

Why Georgia Hayes chose Linville

We purchased this particular property due it's feeling of privacy, nature and wilderness in the middle of the convenience and company of a gated community. We love to hike and experience the wonders of nature, but we also enjoy playing golf, tennis, and working out at club gym. It's the best of all worlds.

What makes this house unique

You''ll see wild turkeys strutting down or across the driveway. There are hiking trails that start right out the back door. The steps up the hill lead to McRae Meadows where the Highland Games are held. You can hear their music during the second weekend in July. The golf courses are beautiful and ranked in the top 100 in the US.

We stayed here for a long weekend golf trip to the mountains. The location and the house were both wonderful. I would highly recommend.

Love Grandfather Mountain

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful location. Kids loved the house, plenty of room. Mrs. Hayes was very pleasant and helpful with our stay. The golf facility is the best I have ever played. Tennis was great with 3 indoor 24 hour courts. Lake and beach are fantastic with paddle boarding and canoeing. Can hike to Grandfather mountain. Blueridge Parkway is within 7 minutes. Can't wait to return.

A great family retreat

  • 4 of 5

We just enjoyed a wonderful week at this property over the 4th July. The house is very well set up for a family stay, we were 7 of us and there was plenty of room. The kitchen is well stocked, the appliances are dated but everything worked well and was very clean. There is a great deck to enjoy with a big outside table and a hammock! The house is pretty dark as it is deep in the woods which was a bit of a surprise to us as we had hoped to enjoy mountain views but with a short drive down to the clubhouse and the lake you are out in the open and can enjoy the great Country Club facilities. These are a huge plus and wonderful for families. Our children spent hours on the beach, fishing and in the lake swimming. I would certainly recommend this property for a vaction away from it all to enjoy the mountains. The owner is extremely helpful and was great to work with.

A great Place to Spend the Summer

  • 4 of 5

Just spent two weeks here with kids and grandkids. Grandfather Golf & Country Club is a wonderful place. And this house gives you access to it. The house is very nice, the beds are comfortable, and it is well-described. The kitchen is well supplied. There was even a supply of coffee filters for the morning pot of coffee to enjoy on the deck. The lake pavilion was a hit for all of us. Well-tended and lifeguarded lake, fire pit, and excellent food. I loved the hand tossed pizza but there's plenty of other choices. We also had access to play golf on the beautiful championship course. A highlight of our stay. You couldn't ask for a more responsive and helpful host. Georgia was prompt to answer every email and insured all the kids had guest passes waiting at the gate. I would have rated this a five-star if it had been newer. But, new or not, you will enjoy your stay here. There are so many activities outside of Grandfather and this is a perfect base for them. A new finding for us was the Valle Crucis Community Park behind the Mast Candy Store. Great park on the Watauga River. Even after 2 weeks we left without doing all we planned. I would recommend this place.

Beautiful mountain retreat artfully decorated and well stocked for our extended family to have a perfect long weekend attending a wedding. This was an amazing vacation house as it is cleverly designed to have two master bedrooms completely separated on the ground floor and two bedrooms upstairs set back for privacy and sleeping with a separate hangout/play area for folks upstairs. I was worried as we had different ages with different lifestyles and plans and hours, but the setup allowed all to sleep late or rise early, read a book or party away with no danger of bothering the others. The living room had incredibly comfy leather seating with an amazing stone fireplace and an adjoining full dining room which made for multiple great gathering places. The kitchen was well organized and fully equipped - one of the few and probably only place that I have ever stayed which supplied all the cooking utensils and paraphernalia necessary for serious cooking. We so appreciated that the owner had fully stocked the house for every need (dishwasher detergent, paper towels, logs etc) - we felt "at home" away from home. We settled in quickly, stoked up a crackling fire and were transported to complete R and R. Despite a weekend of protracted rain, we had one of our best family vacations ever which was largely due to this great rental which took away all the stresses of travel and supplied all the visual and creature comforts of a great vacation. Got great credit from all family members for finding it! Enjoy!

Great place and great stay...

  • 4 of 5

House was great and spacious for our ski trip. Location is awesome. The only reason I didn't give it the highest rating is because the driveway was very difficult to navigate in slick conditions. I recommend including a line in the house description to let renters know before they commit to renting it. If the ice/snow had been of any significance, we would not have been able to get up it in our front wheel drive vehicle. It's not uncommon to have steep driveways in the mtns, but most places that do give you a heads up in the description.

Owner's Response: I appreciate this guest alerting us to the driveway situation during snowy weather. Club maintenance will scrape and salt individual driveways so they are just as passable as the main roads. However, a request to do so has to be called in. Either the guest can make the call or I will if the guest prefers that I do it. I will include this information in our guest booklet along with the maintenance phone number!
