Kate Wood purchased this cottage in 1999
We didn't buy it - we designed and built both homes - this sweet little cottage and our own farmhouse and our barn. I fell in love with this place, backed by 100's of acres of woods, adjacent to a bird sanctuary, often all I can hear is bird song. Eagles fly overhead, songbirds fill the sky, frogs sing us to sleep. Watching our four mustangs is constantly entertaining, and yet a short walk down the hill and I am on the beach or the dock.. Oh and Deer Harbor has the most sun on the Island!
Totally charming doll house. Inspired by my Aunt Millie.. who told me that the world was at my feet!

The cottage was lovely and perfect for what we needed. The property is beautiful and made extra special by the group of rescued mustangs that live there (including an adorable foal). The owners were delightful. The location is on the less visited side of the island, but everything is close by on Orcas Island, at least by city standards -- it only took us 15 or 20 minutes to get to Eastsound.
Great birdwatching right from the patio or the chairs at the edge of the bird Sanctuary! What you hear is bird song and frog song. Mustangs grazing or playing in the meadows below. Nice walk to the Deer Harbor beach and Marina where you can go whale watching, kayaking, go sailing, lay on the sandy beach or grab lunch and a latte. A few miles from Turtleback Preserve and great hiking. Horse lessons with mustangs at Liberty - using your body and energy to communicate.
We ask our guests to wash their dishes and tidy up after themselves. We will take care of laundry. Garbage and recycling cans provided outside.
