About Manuela Szewald
We have lived in many parts of the world, with our family settled today in London. Our routes in Bavaria brought us to this ensemble of historic Bavarian houses which we have refurbished with passion. For our two kids and us, there is no better holiday then this place of Bavarian country life, which we love sharing with like-minded people.
Manuela Szewald purchased this Cottage in 2010
Why Manuela Szewald chose Obermarchenbach
This place is a piece of history extensively refurbished by the owners who have lived in many parts of the world, bringing together different continents and cultures.

When the gate closes the daily routine is left behind and guests will enjoy its seclusion to the full. Stroll through the large garden to find your place to pause, chill out and take a deep breath. Feel at home, surrounded by history. The house is ideally located to explore the best of Bavaria.

a snapshot out of "House Beautiful" magazine
I did not want to leave this place! This was my first vacation where I wasn't ready to go home! Charming, clean, simple and perfectly decorated. Loved every little detail. I would not recommend having little kids as the stairs are ladders (which I loved). My teens loved the sauna, hot tub and waking up to the roosters every morning. The villages of Bavaria are right out of a story book. Thank you for sharing your special part of the world with us!
Thank you so much for staying with us. It was our pleasure. All the best for you and your family.
Manuela was a great host who was very hospitable. She left us a welcome basket, and made sure we were well taken care of. This property was clean, quiet, and quaint. We had a wonderful stay! I highly recommend this home!
A little piece of a paradise
We had a fantastic time. It was like taking a step back in time and living in a 18th century home with all the modern conveniences. Quiet location, gracious hosts, great central location from which to tour Bavaria. Wish we could have stayed longer.
Beautiful, traditional Bavarian home
Great home, warm, with all the amenities one needs - sauna, hot tub, bbq, etc.
The hosts are wonderful, close by and willing to help if required
Quaint, Charming with Great Family Pride.
It was all and a bit more than expected. From a slight problem finding this jewel located in a quiet community 17 miles from busy Munich. The family owners helped us find it and the find was well worth the hunt. A wooden cottage built in the 1850's and reconditioned to make it enjoyable in the 21st century. A two story home of old is situated among trees and other beautiful landscaped areas of the cottage. The collection of old wooden frame buildings associated with the cottage is reminiscent of a "Bavaria of Old." . The old world atmosphere is highlighted by modern conveniences like a hot tub, and sauna. The owner managers are exceptional in their care of guests and in assuring their enjoyment of the property. This is an exceptional property with exceptional people running it.
Truly REMARKABLE & UNIQUE treasure. GREAT Hosts!
I was simply ASTOUNDED that such a UNIQUE, COZY and truly IDYLLIC country-side OASIS could exist so close to one of Europe's most vibrate and important cities (Munich). Only moments from the airport - but truly "worlds away" from everything. Located in a tiny village, nestled within the expansive and gorgeous Bavarian countryside , the beautifully restored COZY cottage is a sanctuary. I was seeking a quiet refuge to rest, refresh and refocus prior to an important business conference in the area, and spend 3 nights here prior to my meetings. Pictures are accurate, if not understated. Cottage is spotlessly clean with every comfort and amenity of a full service resort (even bathrobes). I had crossed two oceans and a continent on this journey and was exhausted. The hosts had graciously provided some "starter" provisions in the fridge and pantry (bread, milk, butter, fruit from the garden, etc). The SPA area is in the equally as wonderfully restored cottage/building next store (about 15 steps). Sauna, hot tub, sauna showers, lounge area with view of country side - COMPLETE PRIVACY. Manuela (the owner/host) and her husband, along with the two very well behaved and polite children, currently live in the main house also on the grounds, but gave me complete privacy. There is paved parking within the grounds, with a secure (electric) gate. Neighborhood is almost SILENT except for the sounds of a country breeze, and birds in the morning. Inside the Cottage it had very steep stairs to the first level above ground (bedrooms), which could be a problem for elderly or those with limited mobility. I truly felt as if I was living, and "breathing" in history in this wonderfully restored farm cottage. A ONCE IN A LIFETIME opportunity, I suspect for most -- but I sincerely hope to return at my earliest convenience! This place is truly a HISTORIC TREASURE! My hope would be that future visitors would respect the historic significance of every element of the Cottage, and treat it with the respect and care that it truly deserves.
