Amazing views, blissful sunsets, ocean breezes, and the sound of waves lapping at the shoreline await you at this fabulous, newly built, pet-friendly, beachfront home located directly on the Gulf of Mexico.
"Villa Delphinus" (named for the leaping dolphin constellation) was built 2008 and has a large, wrap-around, partially covered deck for panoramic views of the Gulf and Bay. The interior is bathed in that magical seaside light and features a vaulted living room, bamboo flooring, 3 bedrooms (2 with queen beds, one with a duo-bunk), a sleeper sofa in the living room, 2 porcelain tiled bathrooms, and spacious, open living, dining, and kitchen areas.
The house was perfect for us with two adults and two kids. It was small and clean. However parking is a mess. I don't know if sand get shoveled but it needed it. Dragging everything from our truck was quite a trek. Don't think you'll be able to park under or next two the house. You will share parking spaces with two houses around you (and they happen to have multiple cars!) And the bulkhead decking was in awful shape. We knew the house didn't have a covered patio but we assumed we could hang out under the house during the middle of the day but there was exposed rebar and missing/rotten decking. It wasn't safe at all for my small kids but my husband fished off of it and loved the fact that we were set out in the gulf a bit! The sound of the waves can be heard through the house at night and is super relaxing. Also the room with the bunk beds is a converted porch without a fan and it gets super hot but it didn't change how much my kids loved sleeping in it! Great beach house for our third year in dauphin island!
The location of the house makes this property worth renting again. Directions and instructions from the agency were helpful and very clear. We arrived late at night and had no trouble finding the house or getting in. The property was clean and we found everything we needed to prepare breakfasts in the mornings. There are a few things that I feel keep the property from earning a high score. The window coverings in the living area are stained and ripped and do not function well. There was only 1 roll of toilet paper in each bathroom and we had to buy more at the local store, no problem but we could have brought our own had we known. There was no dish soap to hand wash anything. The worst issue was the squeaky bed frame in the master bedroom. The bed was comfortable enough but the noise woke my husband and I up every time we turned in the night, and he is very hard of hearing. Also, when we were leaving we tried to start a wash in the washer and the knob was completely loose and gave no indication on the setting. We think we got it right but that should be addressed. The shower liner in the master bath should be replaced. We had a wonderful time on the island, filling our days with sight seeing and walks on the beach. Many times we commented it was like we were on a boat in the middle of the gulf and for that reason I would stay there again.
