|Minimum Stay||2 - 3 nights|
Welcome! You will LOVE this comfortable, charming, impeccably clean, casita/guest-house. It is separate from the main house with its own entrances, terrace, outdoor dining & gorgeous views. It is only a 15-20 minute walk from the center of town (Exactly 1.05 mi.) Close to everything but just far enough to avoid the noisy evenings that are typical of our wonderful town. PLEASE NOTE: This casita is intimate and cozy and only available for a maximum stay of 14 days. Minimum stay during December 23-January 2 is 7 nights. Gracias!
The property features
*a master suite studio, with a king bed,
*a charming bathroom/shower,
*it's own outdoor dining area,
*access to a lower terrace with chaises and hammock for your siestas,
*views of the city and a separate healing arts space.
We are happy to schedule sessions for massage, hypnotherapy, reiki, etc. And yes, your casita is dog-friendly! (We have three lovable dogs on-site).
We love living in this 'hood! We have lived here for nearly 5 years and couldn't be happier. Caracol neighborhood is a 20-minute walk into Centro, slightly downhill. Safe area, with amazing views, friendly neighbors and small grocery stores and produce markets. Parque Juarez, the 111 year old french-inspired park, is a 10 minute walk. Here you will find weekend art shows, running/walking track, basketball courts, zumba classes, outdoor concerts and more! Also, the property offers a healing arts space on-site for your private massage, life coaching, hypnotherapy or past life regression session. There is also an artist's studio and 28 seat theatre on the property - if you would like to offer a workshop or a performance while you are visiting, please let us know and we can help you schedule that.
Lastly, Eli is a chef who specializes in healthy, organic, vegetarian cooking classes....So we offer Casa de la Paz as a Home Away space for you to rest and relax, and also as a holistic retreat space where you can come to create a healthier lifestyle - eating well, quitting smoking, developing new habits, losing weight and more!
The master suite includes a small fridge, microwave and coffee-maker. (Not a full kitchen.)
We LOVE being hosts and will gladly point you in the right direction regarding restaurants, galleries, hot springs, shopping, and local activities.
We LOVE San Miguel, our house, and having guests. Hope to see you soon!
Peace, Eli + Joseph
We have lived in SMA for approx 7 years and have loved every minute of it! We are both interior designers, artists and actors. We are founders of a comedy improv troupe in SMA and enjoy performing 2-3 shows per year.
Eli is bilingual (born in Mexico) and has taught Spanish for many years. He also has a passion for healthy, delicious food and offers cooking classes. Joseph is an assemblage artist and has his art studio on the property. Perhaps during your stay you'll catch an art workshop or see a show while you're here!
Eli and Joseph purchased this cottage in 2014
We LOVE this house for many reasons! From it's curved stone entranceway, to several terraces, the amazing views, a healing arts space (for your massage, hypnotherapy or reiki treatment) the arts studio/theater below, and it's "energy" which is hard to describe. Location is great! Within walking distance of shops, Parque Juarez, and Centro yet away from festival noise and fireworks!
The property has a very special feeling. The ceilings are brick domes (called bovedas) there is a lot of stonework, foliage, and charming decor. The terraces and garden are amazing, with stunning views of the city, mountains and reservoir. It is a quiet neighborhood with small fruit/vegetable shops nearby for those last-minute cravings...You will love it. The neighborhood is close enough to town to enjoy it all, yet far enough to avoid the hustle and bustle and noise of the city at night (especially on weekends!) Also, our property is DOG FRIENDLY - 1 well-trained adult dog. (A $25 pet fee will be applied to your bill.) Gracias!
We really enjoyed staying in this lovely casita. Pleasingly decorated with art on the walls and homey touches. Big comfortable bed. We loved the shower with good hot water, Mexican tile and a real domed brick roof (boveda). The outdoor spaces were comfortable with nice plantings, good views over SMA and 3 friendly dogs for company if you wish. The walk into town took about 20 minutes through a friendly neighborhood and we had no trouble getting a taxi back at night.
Eli and Joseph are interesting and very welcoming hosts, and had lots of good suggestions for places to visit, restaurants, etc.
One thing to note - this is set on a hill - there are stairs, and the walk into town is on cobbled streets/sidewalks, steep in places, but this is typical of SMA anyhow.
The one-bedroom, “Casita” was beautifully decorated with all the necessary amenities. It is located across a small patio from the main house, affording guests a quiet, peaceful and private location. The patio includes an outdoor dining alcove for breakfast or for evening cocktails. The Casita's kitchen area included a refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker and toaster, everything necessary for preparing a light breakfast. The hosts provided coffee, a variety of teas, and other breakfast items. On arrival, we found a tray of beautiful fresh fruit. The property is maintained daily by a friendly, efficient staff of two.
The hosts, Joseph and Eli, were helpful in suggesting places to go, things to see and restaurant recommendations. The beautiful photos in the listing are exactly what you'll find when you get there.
Although it is about a mile from El Jardin (central plaza), it is a pleasant, downhill walk. This also means that it is away from the noise of downtown. For those who don’t want to walk, taxis are quite inexpensive and plentiful all over the city.
All in all, Casa de la Paz is a great place to relax and retreat to in San Miguel, a magical city in the mountains of Mexico.
I thoroughly enjoyed my week stay at Casa de la Paz. Joseph and Eli couldn't be more warm or lovely as hosts--sharing ideas of where to go and what to see. A large fresh fruit basket awaits your arrival. It's a 15 minute walk to the main street downhill, which is quite easy. Taxis are quite cheap so I took a taxi when returning late at night. I definitely would like to come back again! Thanks for a lovely stay!
We arrived just as Joseph was having an art exhibition at his attached studio. It was wonderful.. We were very welcomed by both Joseph and Eli (and Jackson & Chester the dogs) and introduced to their friends. Casa de la Paz is lovely. Our unit was small and efficient and it was enough for us.. We had a lovely patio where we enjoyed our morning breakfast and afternoon snacks. There is a small tienda within a 2 min walk and the walk into centro was about 25 mins...all downhill. We often would take a taxi back which was inexpensive and saved us the uphill walk. Eli and Joseph were very attentive and made sure our stay was comfortable and memorable.. We could hear the air brakes that the truckers used on the highway nearby but it was not a deal breaker and would not stop us from recommending Casa de la Paz to our friends.
The house is really nice and the hosts, Eli and Joseph, were great!! We had a great time and we will be sure to go back!
If decor and attention to detail is your priority, then this is the place for you. If kind and attentive hospitality is your priority, then this is the place for you. If being in a wonderful town with colonial architecture and great arts and crafts shopping is for you, then this is the place for you. And finally, if you like good restaurants with all types of cuisine with fantastic decor, well, again, come here. I can't really think of a downside to coming to San Miguel.
Eli and Joseph, our hosts, obviously paid attention to every detail in their guest suite, down to having cold beer in the fridge, tissues by the bedside and fresh, local fruit in the kitchenette. This is more than a business for them as they care for their guests and their time with them. They are available and helpful, but do not hover.
San Miguel is a great Mexican town, and has been a migration place for many foreigners. This, fortunately hasn't seemed to change the charming character of the town and the original inhabitants are friendly, engaging and ready to assist. An easy luxury bus ride from Guadalajara, it is a memorable place to spend a few days or years, as evident by the number of foreign residents.
The property address is Camino al Caracol 12 (also know as Subida al Caracol 12) And we love living in this 'hood! We have lived here for nearly 5 years and couldn't be happier. Caracol neighborhood is a 15-minute walk into Centro, slightly downhill. Safe area, with amazing views, friendly neighbors and small grocery stores and produce markets.
