Everyone is sure to find their favorite spots!

Electronics include stereo with Ipod and Pandora hookup. Stereo speakers throughout the house, custom controlled within each room. WiFi, satellite TVs, Blue-Ray players, and on-demand Netflix.

Fabulous Vacation

  • 5 of 5

The photos on the website convinced me this was going to be an excellent vacation. The photos didn't nearly do it justice! Way better than I ever expected. Valerie and Audrey were both attentive and genuinely concerned about our comfort. Can't wait to go back.

Great for a 3 generation vacation

  • 5 of 5

Lakefront Retreat is Perfect. The 10 of us enjoyed ourselves immensely. The kitchen included seasonings, bowls with lids to store left overs, clips to fasten bags of food, plus 2 frig drawers & a wine cooler, as well as 2 refrigerators, 2 dishwashers, 2 washing machines, 2 dryers & 5 full bathrooms. WE didn't USE one of the showers, nor the Jacuzzi tubs, or 1 of the dishwashers. Everything else was used including the Keurig, the waffle maker, the grill, both ovens, & both microwaves. Monitoring how many showers & machines are using water at any one time may help improve water pressure when needed for getting shampoo out of long hair.

The 15 foot diving board was used by 5 of us. The others watched their antics! All the water toys were used in addition to the ones we brought with us. The pontoon boat was a nice trip 4 times. We'd anchor somewhere & jump in the lake. Granddad would take pictures of the different scenery. Bear Creek Marina was a convenient 24 hrs a day credit card site. The nearer marina was never open when we would have wanted to be out. The boat does require having at least 2 able people other than the captain to use it.

The lake wasn't busy at all during the week, & not uncomfortably busy on Sunday. Young adults would SUP three miles or more at a time! Grandy would manage 0.5-1.0 miles paddling kayak or SUP.

The movie theater was a real hit with the younger grandkids. Probably would have been with the young adults also, but the Olympics were calling us every night!

Pool table challenged the families - kids vs parents, or sons vs fathers, or siblings competing with each other. The Wii Rock Band was great! Kids & parents took turns playing and singing! Foosball table got a real workout.

Hikes in the nearby Catawba Section of Lake James St Park and the South Mtn St Pk were also fun. Youngest ones hunted Pokemon while grandparents watched and the older ones went to explore Black Mtn one afternoon & had dinner.

The new house next door was moved into while we were there, so complaints about the building noise should now be finished.

The house is 3 stories. The main floor can be accessed without any steps. The lake cannot be reached from the house without doing steps. Lake is very convenient, dock is close, but it is 2 flights of stairs down to the lake, so I'm not suggesting it for people with mobility limitations. Ingles Grocery and Wal-Mart are 8-9 miles away - takes 20 minutes.

THIS IS A GREAT PLACE!!

Family of 10 had a great time!

  • 5 of 5

Three generations including the old folks, their two children and spouses, and the grandchildren who are 10, 12, 20, and 26 years old. The two sets of grandchildren shared bedrooms without problems. The DVD's in the movie theater delighted the two younger grandchildren. The 15 ft diving board was a treat for half the crew. The other half enjoyed watching their antics! (Note: improperly executed flips result in bruises!) We brought 6 paddle boards and two kayaks. At one point all those were in use & Grandy took out a kayak belonging to the house. Destination every evening was paddling out past the "No Wake" zone to see what the sunset would be like! Fishing was also relaxing, though nothing bigger than 5 inches was caught!

We rented the pontoon boat. Grandy & 26 yr old had their boat-ed certificates. We took the boat out 4 times & Granddad was able to get lots of scenery pictures. We would anchor in a pretty spot and splash about in the water. It takes a crew of at least 2 (other than the Captain) to get the boat back in the dock. There are a lots of life jackets: the traditional orange snap-on in the boat, & varying sizes of zip & snap vests as well as water toys in the utility room. We used our own SUPs & Kayaks as well as their Kayaks and Canoe.

The kitchen really is well stocked. No need to bring salt & pepper. The waffle maker & the Keurig coffee maker were a hit. Cookie sheets are behind their own stand upright door. Lots of plastic bowls of many sizes with lids to store your leftovers til the next meal, and clips for the chips, cereal and candy bags are there.

I left soap dispensers for all sinks but 3 (10). Refilling them might be useful. Towels and sheets are very nice. There really are plenty of beach towels. With a washer & dryer on two different levels it isn't hard to keep them washed up & dried. Extra towels of all types, and extra sheets are available in the cabinets in the laundry room on the main level. Determining who is showering, where the two washing machines are in cycles and the dishwasher cycle may make the water pressure better.

Pool table and Wii Rock Band with drums, guitar & microphones were fun! So fun, we bought 8 battery replacements.

We parked 4 cars easily. It would've handled the 5th one that was considered. The driveway is steep, we opted to walk trash bags to the empty can at the top of the hill!

We really enjoyed being together as a family under this delightful roof!

The most beautiful house we have seen for a rental!!!

  • 5 of 5

Actually, if I were looking for a home to buy for a large family - this could be it. It is well thought out - the design very workable. The enormous kitchen (and I know large kitchens) is set up for many helping hands:-) 2 fridges, a wine cooler..it's all there. The living room, the movie room so comfortable - as tho I bought the furniture myself. The view....let me tell you, we spent alot of time on the main floor deck- plenty of room to eat..or hang out...just watching the morning go by with your coffee. The downstairs deck has hammocks, and another living room area. The best part is the house is built down the hill near the lake. All the other houses on the lake are high up- you need a golf cart to get to the lake on some, but this is a few easy steps from the house to the dock. We rented the pontoon boat, again bought with alot of style. The seating is so comfy - 9 of us loved being on it..just perfect. the lake is again a perfect temp - and the cove we are on is private so we played in the waters nearby as well on other coves around the lake.

think I liked the place???oh YEA!!

Gorgeous lake property

  • 4 of 5

The Lake James property is a beautiful, well decorated, and well maintained property. The house is extremely well furnished with excellent appliances, dishes, etc. The game room was also well stocked and our children made good use of the ping pong table, pool table, and fussball table. With an in-house theater, there was no need to go anywhere else.

Bring your groceries and necessary items, the nearest supermarkets were about 20 min away.

We rented the pontoon boat and it is in excellent shape. Lots of fun was had on the water. Lake James is clean and beautiful with only a moderate amount of boat traffic on weekends.

The house was immaculately cleaned for our arrival and Andrea and Linda were extremely gracious and do an excellent job keeping the house in good shape.

My only negative comments about the property are regarding noise insulation, construction noise, and the septic system. A new house has been built within 100 feet of the rented property and there was active construction going on with a backhoe and power saws running during the day during our stay. The septic system is also an issue. We did not have a problem during our stay but there were warning signs all over the house to limit water use and to be careful of the septic system. The house is beautiful but not well sound insulated. Foot traffic, music, and conversations do transmit in the house and can be a bother for those who are light sleepers.

Overall, we had an excellent stay and plan to return at some point in the future. We would definitely recommend the property to friends and family. It is rare to find such a beautiful property for rent. A big Thank You to the owners for being willing to rent such a beautiful property.

Best on the Lake

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time at this truely outstanding home. This lake and this home cannot be beaten for if your intention is for a luxury mountain lake home vacation. During previous visits our 2 families (4 adults, 4 teens) went ziplining, horseback riding, whitewater rafting, hiking, visited the Biltmore, and explorered parks along the Blue Ridge Parkway. This year we decide to spend the vast majority of our week at this beautiful home to enjoy all it has to offer. We rented the available pontoon boat. This is a brand new top of the line pontoon boat with a 115 hp engine. It moves along nicely and has a very comfortable lounge facing aft that our kids loved to hang out on. We fished, used the new paddle boards, jumped off the second level diving board, made s'mores over the fire pit, BBQ'd on the Weber grill, and hung out on the multiple decks. In the awesome theater room, we watched movies from the large DVD collection, played pool and ping pong in the game room, and ate dinners at the gorgeous round dining room table that could sit up to 10 people. This home is a gem you don't want to overlook. It's easy access to the beach/dock is extremely rare and highly desirable. The local manager, Andrea, presents the home in a pristine condition and the owner, Valerie, is friendly, attentive and truely committed to providing a superior vacation home. Oh, a previous review mentioned construction noise. That home is almost complete and the workers are mostly inside so the noise was almost undetectable.
