About the property

Houseboat sleeps 2 people in beautiful location with access to great facilities

This is an opportunity to stay on our private classic yacht in a beautiful location in Marigot Bay, Saint Lucia with great facilities. The 41 foot yacht sleeps 2 persons and is moored on a permanent wooden dock in the marina in front of the hotel. The interior of the boat is fully fitted in teak and we provide 100% cotton bedding and towels. The boat is very comfortable with Cambodian silk cushions and mosquito nets in the sleeping cabins. As a guest of the marina you will have access to top quality marina facilities (showers, WCs) as well as the hotel's lower swimming pool. This is a houseboat and not a charter and is a wonderful way to experience living on a boat and marina life. Why not combine a stay on Airborne with a day sail with a great charter company called Bateau Mygo which is based in the bay?

Airborne is for you if:

- you like boats or camping;

- you love being outdoors;

- you enjoy watching fish jumping, herons in the mangroves or sunsets in the bay;

- you enjoy watching boats and megayachts entering or leaving the harbour;

- you like being walking distance from good restaurants and cafes and a great swimming pool;

- you like something "different" for your holiday and a touch of adventure;

- you appreciate a boat which has some "history";

But she is not for you if:

- you cannot live without air conditioning;

- you want to be in a remote and isolated place;

- you need large open rooms to live in;

- you need to be surrounded by this year's products and gadgets and don't like anything "old"

- you need king size beds.

If you come to stay on Airborne, it helps if you can travel with soft sports-style holdalls or backpacks as the boat is accessed via a gangplank where classic wheeled luggage is really not an advantage and is also harder to stow on board.

About Sarah Rosenthal-Almirall

My husband Pablo and I are passionate about the environment and the natural world. We try to live with a minimum footprint, conserve energy and water resources and live in harmony with the wildlife around us.

Sarah Rosenthal-Almirall purchased this boat in 2009

Why Sarah Rosenthal-Almirall chose Gros Islet

We bought Airborne when we first moved to Saint Lucia and we lived on her for 14 months before moving to the Treehouse just outside Marigot Bay which we built in the rainforest. We were even married on the dock next to Airborne so she is very special to us! Now that we don't sail her - because we are simply too busy - we would like to share our wonderful experience with others and have decided that we will rent her as a houseboat.

What makes this boat unique

Living in the bay on a boat is really a unique experience. We are docked near the mangroves and wild birds come in to nest there. We had our favourite heron who lived above the boat. At the same time you have the advantage of using the top class marina facilities (showers, WCs) as well as one of the hotel's pools so it really is an incredible opportunity to live an adventure but still have access to comfort. The marina belongs to the hotel which means that the hotel's security guards keep an eye on the boat and ensure all is well.

Marigot Bay is the most beautiful bay in the Caribbean. Airborne is moored to the dock in the marina alongside the mangroves. There are many restaurants, cafes, shops, a bank and ATM and water sports in the bay. Airborne is a houseboat and does not go out sailing however day sails can be provided by a local yacht charter company in Marigot Bay.

There are a number of different very comfortable WCs within a very short distance from the boat and showers in the marina village and by the pool.

Airborne – a classic ‘’stay-aboard’’ yacht in Marigot Bay, Capella Marina and Resort.

  • 5 of 5

First, don’t be misguided when on your search; the Marina comes up as being in Castries – it’s far from this industrial city. We managed eventually to pin it down: it’s in lovely Marigot Bay.

Airborne's owners, Sarah and Pablo will provide you with a list of likes and dislikes for when this type of accommodation is or is not for you.

But if you like living in a casual community of boats and boaters, with access to an extremely well run resort and some of its great facilities, Airborne is an ideal place to ‘’step out’’ for a while. You will meet people of many different nations in this community, which almost changes daily as well. Happy hour (two for one drinks from 17:00 – 18:00) at the Chateau Mygo’s ‘’Hurricane Hole Bar’’, a bar and restaurant on the beach, is a great place to meet the world and make new friends, and then have dinner there as well.

The boat is comfortable for two and has everything you might need for your stay, and with all the places to eat within walking distance, you’ll find yourself basically doing breakfasts and snacks on board. The fridge is a good size by boat standards and provides ample cooling and ice for your favourite drinks. Having owned and sailed boats ourselves, we found Airborne a good choice for our stay. While there is a small grocery shop right at the marina, you will do better stopping off on your way in at the Massy Supermarket at Cul De Sac. The Marina simply charges what they can, and without any competition in easy walking distance, they can. There’s also a bank machine and a bank at the Marina, should you find yourself short on cash. We found it best, to bring EC from home.

Your hosts, Sarah and Pablo are very helpful and will provide you with many good tips for restaurants and day trips. If you get in early enough, they also have a small 4x4 for rent, should you wish to do so, or they can hook you up with a rental service. We opted for a taxi from Hewanorra Airport – a fixed USD 70.00 for two of us, and found Janus Gyan to provide exceptional service. I can only highly recommend him. We also really enjoyed our day-trip by water-taxi with Sava (Shashamané - Sarah’s tip) down to Soufriere and the Pitons ( ). He would stop at every beach on the way down, explain the history of each area and let us take a swim or snorkel where we felt like it. See my complete review of him also on Tripadvisor. Book Airborne and go!

And thank you so much too for being such wonderful guests and looking after her so well :) Airborne is a very special boat as you know and she really comes "alive" when she has guests on board! We hope we have many other guests like yourselves as a result of your amazing review and we hope that you will both be back to stay with us! Sarah, Pablo and Airborne

Amazing location and fun experience

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay onboard the boat. The location in Marigot Bay is stunning, and the resort facilities are wonderful. We found ourselves frequently by the great pool. It takes some adjusting to staying on an older boat, and the unique facilities and sleeping bunk, but it is perfect for soaking up the marina life. Sarah and Pablo are great hosts, showing us around the marina, pointing out useful tips and checking up on us. When we noted that an outdoor light would be useful on the deck, one appeared the next day. We did have some issues with late night noise coming from across the bay on certain nights and this could be a concern. We also experienced quite a lot of mosquitos, although there is helpfully netting for the bed. All in all, we liked the experience and would recommend for a great way to experience Marigot Bay.

Owner's Response: Hi Tom and Hank, Thank you so much for your great review - we really enjoyed having you as guests on the boat and thank you for looking after her so well while you were there! Yes, it's high season so there is sometimes music playing around the bay but normally it should stop at a reasonable hour! In low season we get the opposite comment that the bay seems really quiet...guess you have to choose your moment! Mosquitoes are unfortunately a problem Caribbean-wide but there are less in the bay as there is always a bit of a breeze and the water is of course "moving". The mosquito nets are a good solution and if there are any around we just burn a mosquito coil in the background and that generally does the job! There were some on the boat or you can also get them from the minimarket in the bay. We hope that the rest of your trip was a success and please come back and see us again one day! Sarah and Pablo
