Jeff Dawson purchased this cottage in 2007
Two houses from Rye Beach Park and the beach. We used to live in the rental, but we needed more space especially a large garden and a two-car garage. We bought this cottage and we fixed it up ourselves. My wife has an eye for putting together a please setting.
My wife fell in love with the house which was a foreclosure. It had no kitchen cupboards or sink and the loft was a mess. She said, "This place is perfect!" I thought she was crazy. We worked weekends for a year to make it the perfect place. She liked the view of the lake, but it was really about putting her skills to bring out the best in this cottage.
We were looking for a small place to be able to see the Lake Erie shore and to rest/relax with a day trip to Cedar Point. Upon arrival Jeff was very friendly and helpful to suggest many eateries and activities in the area. The cottage is laid out nicely. There are many types of linens available and a fully stocked kitchen. (Note there are no wash cloths provided – but many towels for bath, kitchen, and beach.) One critique we have is that the cottage could use a good cleaning. The carpets, floors and bedding were just fine but the bathroom was not cleaned to our liking upon arrival and the fridge and microwave were very dirty. It appeared as if the kitchen was not cleaned between stays and we were one of the last rentals for the summer. We cleaned these and left them much cleaner than when we arrived.
Central air worked great although the loft tends to stay warm while the master bedroom is colder.
The library of VHS/DVD’s is a bit overstated. There may be 2100 in the collection but most of them reside in the owner’s home which is two blocks away. The library of movies in the cottage is mostly VHS doubles of the owner’s.
Had the cleanliness been better I would give this place 5 stars! It was only a 10 minute drive to Cedar Point.
Fantastic access to a small local beach where you could fish or swim. It takes about 1 minute to walk to the beach which is also adjacent to a small park. Jeff is very friendly and has a lot of great recommendations for local eateries and entertainment options. Lots of space in the home. Great location for Sandusky (10 minutes) and Cleveland (1 hour). Would definitely return if given the opportunity. Would not hesitate recommending to others.
Jeff, my family and I would like to thank you for renting us your house. The wife is already talking about making a return trip, we loved the peacefulness and being able to walk to the park and lake to fish made it really nice. I would love to see the park committee improve the access to the pier by either filling in the broken walkway with either sand or gravel witch would only take like one truck load because I know concrete can be expensive. But other than that I think the residents living there are really lucky in the summer time to have such a beautiful place to call home. Thanks for everything John & Family
I really enjoyed my stay here. Jeff was a pleasure to deal with and I feel I got a great value for my money. My wife liked the decor of the property. The house was very clean and well equipped. Its in a nice little neighborhood and the neighbors are very friendly. I have already talked to Jeff about returning for a couple weeks in May and 3 weeks next November.
Very comfortable, clean and close to everything. Did not experience any of the problems mentioned in previous review. Will definitely be back again. The owner is very congenial and respected our privacy. The neighbors are very friendly. Nice neighborhood.
good and bad..the good..the furnishings. The bad: The house is infested with ants..can't have anything out. Something was deceased I think under the sink, so the smell in the kitchen was horrible. And if you like privacy, don't come here, the owners come in without your knowledge, go through your things, and turn the lights off, so you get to come into a dark strange house, hope someone's kids aren't afraid as mine were. The whirlpool tub didn't work well, and the washer/dryer kept blowing fuses. There's a water leak in the living room and there's mold. So not worth the money we were charged. Hopefully there's not a person who's hard of hearing staying there or someone in the tub, as you can come out the the owners coming there at will.
