Charming historic cast stone home nestled in the middle of the Huning Highland neighborhood full of beautiful restored historic homes. This wonderful grand Queen Anne style home was once owned by Albuquerque's earliest school principle. Right next door is one of Albuquerque's premier bed and breakfast operation. One of the homes is very historic, referred to as the “Spy House” because of Atomic Bomb drawings being sold by David Greenglass, the brother of the infamous Ethel Rosenburg, to a soviet spy. The “Spy House” is also a bed and breakfast where you will be more than welcome to have your breakfast at an additional cost of $10/per person when the B & B schedule permits. It is also within walking distance of many great restaurants.
There are three bedrooms upstairs:
Two bedrooms each with a king-size bed
- One king bedroom with private full bath.
- One king bedroom with a secondary sleep area and full size sleeper sofa, with full shared bathroom
- One queen bedroom with full shared bathroom.
Downstairs includes a very spacious living, dining and kitchen area.
You are an easy 5-10 minutes from Convention Center, UNM, Hospitals, Old Town, Museums, Zoo, Airport, and even a shorter distance to great shopping, restaurants or even the movie theater. You are also within walking distance to the train/bus stations that can take you to many other great attractions in the Albuquerque area.
Weekly and monthly rates available only.
Normally bookings for less than one week are not accepted more than a month in advance (returning guests exempt).
No smoking, (Smoking permitted outside the house.) Sorry, no pets.
Steve and Kara Grant, the owners and innkeepers of the Downtown Historic Bed and Breakfasts of Albuquerque, have been residents of Albuquerque since 1999. When they first moved here, they settled in a typical home with their 3 children. But two years after their fourth little girl was born, they came across a unique house with an amazing story behind it in the downtown area of Albuquerque. The house was badly in need of TLC, but Kara fell in love with the house and Steve soon warmed up to it as well. They spent 6 months making the house livable and moved into it Christmas Eve of 2004. This house was the “Spy House” (ATOMIC BOMB SECRETS TRADED HERE), which they made their home for 5 years. The other building on the same property is the 'Carriage House', which is the one we currently use for VRBO business.
Steve and Kara Grant purchased this house in 2007
We love the historic neighborhood area that and the GREAT location is a plus too!! Located in Downtown Albuquerque, close to just about everything - Hospitals, University of New Mexico, Old Town, Nob Hill, Airport, 5 blocks to the Rail Runner Train station that goes all the way to Santa Fe!
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!! WE ARE THE PERFECT LOCATION TO REACH JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING IN ALBUQUERQUE!
This property is exceptional. The owners were beyond accommodating and went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. It was the most well-equipped HomeAway I've stayed in. The home itself is beautiful and the beds extremely comfy. Well located in ABQ, just a hop off I-25. The parking spot was a God-send! I felt very safe on the property. Just a 7 minute drive from UNM...great location to access all of Albuquerque. We stayed over Balloon Fiesta and were beyond pleased with our stay!
This property is an older home in an interesting neighborhood of Albuquerque. It is full of character and charm. It has beautiful woodwork including the floors and staircase. The kitchen has been updated. There was plenty of lovely hot water. I would recommend this property to visitors to Albuquerque.
Late Victorian quarters updated with luxury linens and towels. The Grants provided everything one would need in a most gracious way. Coffee was available for the first morning. Nice nibbles and a welcoming bottle of red made one feel really wanted. There is a lot of local history associated with the place and for those interested in such things it is a real pleasure to step back in time and see Albuquerque as it was at the turn of the last century. We would stay again and send friends there without a second thought.
Steve and Kara were very welcoming and provided everything we needed for a comfortable and enjoyable three week stay. When we first arrived there were delicious homemade scones, chocolates, and fresh fruit left for us. The house is clean, spacious, and decorated with many beautiful relics. All three bedrooms have very large comfortable beds and get nice light during the day. The kitchen is well equipped with your basic needs and there is a laundry and dish washing machine that work well. All in all the house is an ideal place to stay if you are spending some time in Albuquerque and want a nice home base. The lovely front porch is an added bonus as well as the convenient location (walking distance form many good restaurants such as The Grove and Artichoke Cafe).
This historic home was the perfect rental home for our family of 5. Besides being absolutely beautiful; with large comfortable bedrooms, well appointed kitchen, large dining area, and living room space, the central location making it a short walk or drive to everything we wanted to do, the historic significance of this property is fascinating and made it totally cool to stay there. The photo's don't do the home justice as the rooms were much larger than what we expected. As is always a bonus too, the main floor laundry was super handy to have available; saves the unpleasant task when you get home after vacation. While in New Mexico over New Years we saw and did a number of very entertaining family activities including; having supper at the Shark Reef Cafe prior to walking through the River of Lights at the Botanical Gardens, walking around the historic Old Town, visiting a Pueblo and watching native dancing (which only allows visitors a few times a year so we were very fortunate in our timing to be able to watch and enjoy this native cultural experience), attended a Paint night which was extremely fun for all, visited the Native Pueblo Cultural Centre which again introduced us to the unique and extensive history the region contains along with gaining a better understanding about the various Pueblo communities that still exist today, and on New Year's eve we all went to a casino and watched a Cirques performance which was outstanding.
The location and accommodations were wonderful! Steve and Kara were amazing.
We will visit again!!
