About James Robertson

I'm James and this is my family - swimming 5 yards away from Seabreeze Lodge. We live in Wimbledon, England. I publish DJ Mag and Karen is a chief pharmacist. We try to visit Great Exuma at least once a year. We absolutely love it, and you will too.

James Robertson purchased this lodge in 2013

Why James Robertson chose Bahamas

My father bought a plot of land in the 1960s in Great Exuma. The plot was advertised in The Times. Until this year he had never seen his plot.

A few years ago I was in Miami at a conference with my wife, we decided it would be fun to visit this mysterious piece of land, that I had heard so much about during my childhood. When I was in Great Exuma my father rang to ask if I would also visit his cousins' plot of land south of George Town. When we got there, it was breath-taking. The plot was on the sea, the sun was setting and there was something absolutely magical about the place.

On returning back to England I made an offer to my father's cousins to buy the land. It took five years for them to agree, but in 2012 I became the proud owner of a 1/4 acre piece of land in the middle of the Caribbean.

On January 1st 2013 we started building and in August 2014 we took our first family holiday in Seabreeze Lodge. It was fabulous.

What makes this lodge unique

1. Secluded, but secure.

2. Unbelievable views.

3. Heated fresh-water pool (I don't know of any other heated pools on the Island), in Summer its not necessary, but in Winter it definitely is.

4. An emergency generator - Great Exuma, does suffer power cuts, but our generator could power a small city!

5. Excellent air-con.

6. Clear skies - not a plane in sight (or in earshot)

7. A boat ramp - to launch a boat, kayak or simply walk into the sea.

8. Wifi

Sea Breeze Lodge is awesome! Everything we had hoped for and more. On the water with a pool, our own private oasis..... Every thing in the visitors manual was spot on! We had an amazing vacation,.... hanging out at the house, venturing to Exuma Point (to swim with the pig! be sure to talk to Elvis!), boating across to Stocking Island (feeding sting-ray) and all the other places recommended. Truly the best!!!!

It's hurricane proof & amazing!!

  • 5 of 5

The house is beautiful, modern & has everything you need! We had the misfortune of being there during Hurricane Joaquin. The wind was crazy strong, and the power was on & off for days. The generator came on automatically, so we could watch TV & cook when we couldn't be outside. The house made us feel safe and sound, no matter how hard the wind blew! During the storm, the caretaker checked on us to make sure we had everything we needed. When it was finally over, he came over and cleaned up all the damaged trees and such. He was really friendly and made us feel welcome! The owner of the house let us have a couple days free, since we were stuck inside during the hurricane. He's super nice! He sent us t-shirts saying "I survived Hurricane Joaquin" & a Christmas card.

All the furnishings in the house were top of the line, and you could tell it was built with a lot of love! Every person we met in Great Exuma was so warm and friendly! It's a small island with no crime and not a tourist trap. I'm so glad we picked it after we saw the swimming pigs! It's truly breathtaking! The water is shallow and so clear. We would go stand in the water and feed the fish several times a day, and the variety and colors was unbelievable! It was definitely a vacation of a lifetime! If you go, make sure you go see the pigs, iguanas & snorkel on the tour! I was a little scared to snorkel, but it truly was magical!

My husband works for an airline, so we can go almost anywhere. When we're ready to take another vacation, we want to go back to Great Exuma! You won't be disappointed! When you're there, you feel like you're in a postcard, because everything is just stunning!! I'll never forget this vacation, not just because we survived a hurricane!!

Absolutely Perfect

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a trip to Exuma, and our stay at Seabreeze Lodge. We could not have loved it more. First off, James is wonderful to deal with. He responds right back to you, and when you get to the Villa, you can see how much pride they take in their house. Everything is absolutely top notch. Joanes also is fantastic to deal with. He could not be more professional, welcoming or accommodating during your trip. This is the third villa we have rented in Exuma (in a year), yes we love it there, and it was by far our favorite. The kitchen is perfect. Well stocked, well organized. We cooked a ton. The market is well stocked and easily accessible. If you fly in on a Sunday, they have limited hours, so just be mindful of that. The bedrooms are all the same size, and even the bunk room has two huge queens. The upper patio is way bigger than it looked in pictures. We spent so much time out there shaded form the sun. There are chairs and a wonderful little couch that I could have read on all day. Many times when we have been to Exuma we have wanted to leave the house and see beaches and do so much, but we all loved the house so much, we had to make ourselves leave. The pool absolutely tops it off. It is so nice to jump in a freshwater pool. One of my favorite things about the house was the neighbor's dogs that come to visit. We were with another couple who are total animal lovers too, so we adored it, but if you don't particularly like dogs, don't worry. If you don't show them much attention, they will be off to see other people in the neighborhood. Their names are Scooby, a little Jack Russel who is 11, and Bandit, who is a boxer mix, and he is 2. They are total loves, but again if you don't care for dogs, do not feel threatened, and just don't pay them much attention. If you are, you make a friend for life. We went bone fishing and had great luck. Garth Thompson is very good. We took a water taxi over to St. Francis Hotel on stocking island and had a great lunch and went over to the Atlantic side and jumped waves. Very different than the harbour. We rented a boat from Minns, and snorkeled and went to sand bars, and saw turtles and starfish. The list is endless. I want to keep Exuma my own little secret, but it is just so fantastic I can't! Thank you again James, family, and Joanes! Hope to see you sooner rather than later!

Amazing Lodge, Breathtaking Views

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed every minute of our 7 day stay with our two children ages 11 & 9. The property is just as beautiful as the pictures.

You need a rental car to get around the island and make trips to the grocery. We rented a car from Berlie's and they were waiting at the airport for us with the car when we arrived. We dropped the car back off at the airport when we left and it was just that easy. They were a great family to work with.

Joanes was great, as well. He checked in on us half way through our stay and was a phone call or text away if we needed something. It was a pleasure meeting him.

We brought our main meals (from Omaha steaks) in a checked suitcase with gelpaks and that worked perfect! Then we only needed a few minor things from the grocery for breakfast, lunch, and snacks.

The accomodations at the house were 5 star. There were 2 kayaks, snorkel gear, pool floats, etc for activities at the house. We donated two sand shovels our kids used when we drove to the Tropic of Cancer beach and Exuma point.

Our favorite memory was sitting in the lounge chairs each morning, overlooking the water, having a cup of coffee. It felt like a dream. I could go on and on forever, but if you are considering a stay at Seabreeze just know, you will not be disappointed.

Amazing Family Vacation !

  • 5 of 5

Our family of five stayed at the Seabreeze Lodge, and it was perfect !! The location was remote enough ,but convenient to town. James, the owner, was fantastic with responding quickly with any questions/concerns, and Joanes, the caretaker, was there to greet us at the house and helpful with any issues if they arose.Joanes was also a great resource for Island info: tours, restaurants, ect. ....

The house was very clean, had everything you could possibly need, and the location was to die for!! Cannot say enough good things about this house,James and Joanes.

We can't wait to come back !! Thanks James and family for sharing your little piece of heaven !!

Kindest Regards,

The Cobb Clan

Beautiful Beyond Words!!!

  • 4 of 5

The beaches and views of George Town Exuma were stunning and you truly cannot put the beauty into words! The island is small with very limited restaurants and groceries (with the weirdest hours of operation) and if you need milk you have to buy it on Tuesday or Thursday when the boat comes in, we found that out the hard way but luckily Joaness saved the day and was able to get us some!

The house is very nice, very spacious, and very well kept! Our only complaints would be that Joaness, the care taker, never checked in with us so we ended up having to go buy our own water to drink and make ice with and we had to do our own laundry just to have clean towels through out the week!

Our favorite part of the week was our full days boat excursion we took with Captain Andrew and his sons, it was AMAZING! We got to swim with the pigs, eat at the Stanley Yacht club, pet iguanas, snorkel in a cave and see islands owned by celebrities! Captain Andrew made it so much fun and make it an experience we will never forget!

Besides those few minor things it was very relaxing and everything we had hoped it would be! I would highly recommend this location and this island if you are wanting a peaceful escape from your everyday life!

Owner's Response: Amy We loved having you and your family at the house. Thanks for the heads up regarding the towels - I'll make sure that towels are washed mid-week - that's a great call. I'm sorry that you had to buy your own water - that shouldn't have happened. I will look into it. Best wishes and we hope to see you again. James (based in UK)
