About James Robertson

I'm James and this is my family - swimming 5 yards away from Seabreeze Lodge. We live in Wimbledon, England. I publish DJ Mag and Karen is a chief pharmacist. We try to visit Great Exuma at least once a year. We absolutely love it, and you will too.

James Robertson purchased this lodge in 2013

Why James Robertson chose Bahamas

My father bought a plot of land in the 1960s in Great Exuma. The plot was advertised in The Times. Until this year he had never seen his plot.

A few years ago I was in Miami at a conference with my wife, we decided it would be fun to visit this mysterious piece of land, that I had heard so much about during my childhood. When I was in Great Exuma my father rang to ask if I would also visit his cousins' plot of land south of George Town. When we got there, it was breath-taking. The plot was on the sea, the sun was setting and there was something absolutely magical about the place.

On returning back to England I made an offer to my father's cousins to buy the land. It took five years for them to agree, but in 2012 I became the proud owner of a 1/4 acre piece of land in the middle of the Caribbean.

On January 1st 2013 we started building and in August 2014 we took our first family holiday in Seabreeze Lodge. It was fabulous.

What makes this lodge unique

1. Secluded, but secure.

2. Unbelievable views.

3. Heated fresh-water pool (I don't know of any other heated pools on the Island), in Summer its not necessary, but in Winter it definitely is.

4. An emergency generator - Great Exuma, does suffer power cuts, but our generator could power a small city!

5. Excellent air-con.

6. Clear skies - not a plane in sight (or in earshot)

7. A boat ramp - to launch a boat, kayak or simply walk into the sea.

8. Wifi

Absolutely Incredible

  • 5 of 5

This house is fabulous and has everything you need! We stayed 9 nights in March. We have already booked for next year! James was a joy to work with and Joanes was very helpful with everything when we arrived on the island. The view was breathtaking and we loved low tide when the sandbar appeared. We could walk for miles. We loved the porch, pool and outside area. The kitchen was perfect and the beds and bedding were heavenly. We had a total of 8 people, two families and never felt crowded. The kayaks were very nice. No expense was spared in every detail of this house and amenities. We LOVED the Manual that James sent us on the house and activities to do on island. We did full day boat trips with Sugar Adventure Company (our favorite) and Exuma Sunrise Tour to see the pigs, sharks, Thunderball Grotto, sea turtles, and starfish. We took the water taxi to Chat n Chill 2 days. Make sure to feed the stingrays. On Sunday, go to Exuma Point for the buffet and have Elvis take you to swim with the Pigs. Not the same famous pigs (you can do that on a day long boat trip) BUT these pigs were so much better. We were the only ones there and had the pigs to ourselves. Our favorite restaurants were: Exuma Point, Santana's, Chat n Chill, Catch A Fire, Hideaway, and February Pointe. Make sure to go at low tide to Coco Plum Beach. We found almost 100 sand dollars. Besides the main road in Exuma the back roads are rough. We didn't mind. Just drive slow. You will need a rental car. We have truly fallen in love with the island of Exuma and this incredible property. We are counting down the days until we visit again. Thank you so much James and Joanes for making our family vacation so spectacular. The memories made here are priceless.

Spacious, comfortable with beautiful views and great access to the water.

The property was perfect. It was just what we were looking for. Its a shame the weather was so bad but at least we had nice accommodations and the ping pong table really came in handy.

If we ever come back to Exuma we would definitely stay there again.

Perfect for our two families!

  • 5 of 5

We loved everything about this house. We had 4 adults and 4 kids aged 7-16 and it was just the right size. The pool was the biggest hit - the kids spent a lot of the time there. But when they needed a break from the sun, there were several movies to choose from to watch and they played ping pong a lot too. The wifi was spotty but we didn't mind too much. We used the two kayaks often, either going along the coastline or out to the sandbar to walk around. The kitchen had everything you need for cooking. We didn't eat out a lot but Charlie's has awesome pizza! For groceries, either The Exuma Market or Smitty's are your best bets for selection. We spent an afternoon at the Chat and Chill and got to pet the stingrays. The ferry over to Stocking Island (as well as everything else on the island) is definitely on "island time" so don't be in a hurry. As others have said - there are a couple of dogs that will come and visit from time to time. We are dog lovers so we enjoyed it but if you don't like it, they will leave if you give them no attention. The only bad part about our entire trip was the No See Ums. They come out at sunrise and sunset if it's not breezy and the bites are very, very itchy. Benadryl nor hydrocortisone seemed to help anyone in our group. The locals that we talked to said to put a thin layer of baby oil on your skin to prevent them from biting. We did a day trip to see the pigs, swim with the sharks, see the iguanas, etc. It was really fun! Make sure to take cash with you because they did a stop for lunch at a restaurant that wasn't included in the price and it only took cash. Overall, we were so happy with our trip and this house. We will definitely be back again in the future! Thanks James and family for sharing your home with us!

Owner's Response: Tanya, Thank you for staying and we're glad you had such a good time. Just a quick note on the No See Ums... This is a problem with The Bahamas, not just our property. The good news is we've just spent $5,000 on a fogger which spans the circumference of the property. Hopefully in the coming weeks we will be able to deal with these critters. Lastly, on Scoobie and Bandit (the neighbour's dogs), we are installing a gate to the boat ramp which is their point of entry... If you love 'em you can keep it open, if they annoy you, you'll be able to keep it shut... Adios popcakes... Best wishes James

Oasis on a Remote Island

  • 5 of 5

Seabreeze Lodge is an oasis and fortress on a remote Caribbean island. Exuma is not your typical Caribbean venue. Unless you stay at an all inclusive resort, you'll need a thirst for adventure to enjoy the full potential of the Exumas. Luxuries are not the norm. Seabreeze Lodge is the exception to the rule. This luxury home has all the amenities of a 5 star resort, except it is all for you! The property is just as described in the literature without exception! What is not well communicated, is the security and fortress like qualities of the home. We spent 24 hours inside with gale force winds. With theach doors shut, you could here a pin drop inside. While the rest of the island was enduring a power outage, the commercial sized diesel generator kept us bright, cool, and comfy. After several hours in the dark, the renters next door begged to use the gas grill just to keep their steaks from spoiling. That was the least we could do, considering we were staying in a palace. Nights by the kaleidoscopic underwater lighted pool were magical. Gentle onshore breezes, drinks and smooth reggae music took us to a better place. Thanks to James the owner and Joanes the caretaker for making this such a wonderful experience. These men are the salt of the earth! Don't hesitate, book now before it's too late!

This place is amazing!!!

  • 5 of 5

The house is beautiful, overlooking one of the best views on the island. We stayed for a week and enjoyed every feature of the property. The pool, outside bar, the entire outdoor area is wonderful, no need to leave this house. Joannes is great, there whenever we needed anything, really helpful. I've been to this island 3 times and I would absolutely stay at Sea Breeze Lodge next year😀򐀮

We absolutely loved our stay! The house is gorgeous and the setting is perfect. The view from the porch is so lovely and being able to hike out to the islands in front of the house at low tide was a favorite activity. The house is very well equipped and comfortable, so much so that it was hard to pry our son away to visit different areas of the island. The sea kayak was a highlight and we made good use of it. The sound system in the house and also at the pool is a really great feature, and made spending time in the pool (which is heated!) a pleasure. Joanes, the caretaker, was a real help to us and very attentive. When we return to Exuma we would book here again without hesitation. Thanks for everything, it was better than expected!

Seabreeze Lodge is set in the most amazing setting. Isolated, but secure, the lodge is located directly on the sea front with views of the sea and cays. A boat ramp leads directly into the sea. Hunt bonefish from the lodge, or set sail from from the property.
