About James Robertson

I'm James and this is my family - swimming 5 yards away from Seabreeze Lodge. We live in Wimbledon, England. I publish DJ Mag and Karen is a chief pharmacist. We try to visit Great Exuma at least once a year. We absolutely love it, and you will too.

James Robertson purchased this lodge in 2013

Why James Robertson chose Exuma

My father bought a plot of land in the 1960s in Great Exuma. The plot was advertised in The Times. Until this year he had never seen his plot.

A few years ago I was in Miami at a conference with my wife, we decided it would be fun to visit this mysterious piece of land, that I had heard so much about during my childhood. When I was in Great Exuma my father rang to ask if I would also visit his cousins' plot of land south of George Town. When we got there, it was breath-taking. The plot was on the sea, the sun was setting and there was something absolutely magical about the place.

On returning back to England I made an offer to my father's cousins to buy the land. It took five years for them to agree, but in 2012 I became the proud owner of a 1/4 acre piece of land in the middle of the Caribbean.

On January 1st 2013 we started building and in August 2014 we took our first family holiday in Seabreeze Lodge. It was fabulous.

What makes this lodge unique

1. Secluded, but secure.

2. Unbelievable views.

3. Heated fresh-water pool (I don't know of any other heated pools on the Island), in Summer its not necessary, but in Winter it definitely is.

4. An emergency generator - Great Exuma, does suffer power cuts, but our generator could power a small city!

5. Excellent air-con.

6. Clear skies - not a plane in sight (or in earshot)

7. A boat ramp - to launch a boat, kayak or simply walk into the sea.

8. Wifi

Home while on vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our party of eight (four adults, four children....7, 9, 10, and 11) had a wonderful time at Seabreeze Lodge. This is our second trip to the Exumas. We chose to stay at this location based on internet research (private pool on the coast with great reviews) and geographic proximity to Georgetown and our favorite beaches (Forbes Hill, Tropic of Cancer, and Man-O-War Cay). Seabreeze Lodge was home away from home. The home is well appointed, especially the kitchen. The amenities are as advertised. The adults and the kids enjoyed relaxing at and by the pool. Everyone enjoyed snorkeling right behind the property at high tide. We fished the flats on foot and via kayak (kayaks are provided with the property rental). The beds were very comfortable. The home lacked for nothing and the only surprises were positive ones. The natural beauty of the Exumas is what draws our interest, along with the relaxing and laid back pace of life. The infrastructure of the island and the realities of being on an island were of no surprise to us....the roads, once off the Queen's Highway, can be rough. Gas was hard to find for about two days, food and beverage supplies vary depending on where you shop and on what day, we lost power several times (strong thunderstorms)....but the on-site generator kicked in.....on those same days the internet was intermittent as well (mixed blessing). The owner was very proactive with sending additional information to prepare for our trip, and was responsive to our follow-up questions. There is a local property manager / care taker that was very responsive upon our arrival, during our stay, and at our departure. The best testament that we can give is that we plan to return to Exuma and plan to return to Seabreeze Lodge.

Perfection

  • 5 of 5

We started looking into Exuma two years ago when our daughter first saw a video of the swimming pigs. After lots of research we choose Seabreeze Lodge. We obviously made the right choice. The excitement began when we received a visitor's guide in the mail from James. The information included in this guide proved to be invaluable. James was always quick to respond and answered all of our questions. Upon arrival at the airport we were greeted by Joanes who had arranged for our rental car. After leading us to the house, Joanes carried our luggage inside while we oohed and aahed over the view. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect house. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed, we had plenty of towels and the beds were comfy. The kids' favorite spot was the swimming pool while my husband enjoyed kayaking to the sandbar behind the house. Some of our other favorite spots included Tropic of Cancer Beach in Little Exuma and CocoPlum Beach up North. We highly recommend taking a tour to see the swimming pigs, sharks and Thunderball Grotto. Another highlight was renting a boat from Minn's and exploring all the coves on Stocking Island. Exuma was our 10th island in the Caribbean to visit and was by far our favorite. The island was beautiful, the locals were friendly and the house was perfect. Thank you James, for sharing your beautiful home with us. Seabreeze Lodge, we will be back!!

What a wonderul place!

  • 5 of 5

Wow!! What an exceptional home in a fabulous setting! We could not have been more pleased, the home is even better then the photos . We loved the layout and comfort of the home, the multiple towels, comfortable beds, the unbelievable views, the accessibility to the water, the kayaks, the pool...It was more than we had hoped for -- we just had a marvelous time. James is responsive and previously to the trip we got a beautiful booklet with very useful information about the place and the house. Having Joanes pick us up at the airport was very helpful as well -- he was just a call away if we needed him, and he gave us great tips on local restaurants and things to do. We can't say enough about this simply extraordinary home. Just perfect!!! Totally Delightful in every way.

Magnificent!!!! D. Lewis

  • 5 of 5

The Seabreeze Lodge is SO incredible. It has all that you could ask for and more in a paradise setting. We enjoyed the beautiful pool and kayaking everyday.

There are many excursions you can enjoy, however, we loved being at the house and only ventured out a few times.

If you want to see a beautiful beach and enjoy snorkeling, go to Tropic of Cancer Little Exuma. It is such a beautiful beach and the sand feels so good between your toes.

Also, you can go to Exuma Point for brunch on Sunday and then be taken out to swim with the pigs. The food was amazing and the pigs are adorable.

Many many thanks to James, the owner and Joanes, the caretaker for providing a beautiful getaway. Definitely an unforgettable vacation with lots of special memories. We will be back indeed!!!!

One last item...there is a Seabreeze Lodge manuel with lots of good information about the Exumas. Make sure you read it. EnJoY!

Seabreeze Lodge is set in the most amazing setting. Isolated, but secure, the lodge is located directly on the sea front with views of the sea and cays. A boat ramp leads directly into the sea. Hunt bonefish from the lodge, or set sail from from the property.
