This Opal home is our "home away from home". We typically spend 6 months out of the year in beautiful Aruba and the other 6 months in Alaska summer of course :) We hope you have a wonderful and relaxing time during your stay in Aruba!
Neil purchased this house in 2012
We had such a fun time in Aruba and staying here made it so much better. Dinner every night on the private patio was really peaceful. Very nice neighborhood and fully gated entry to home made us feel safe.
We had 2 18y/o, 2 16y/o and my wife and me. The house is a 5 minute walk to the water. The pool is nice. All rooms have a/c. The entire property is fenced and you can even park inside gate. We were very happy with house.
You will want a car! The beaches that are worth visiting are all a drive away. The houses location is great though. The house is near all of the newer hotels and restaurants (driving). The south part of the island is more ran down and there is a huge gas refinery. We visited a different beach each day. It was great because every beach was totally different. Some had corral to snorkel, some were shallow and great for being lazy. Baby beach would be great for kids and just south of it you'll find awesome views.
June was good time to go. No crowds at all. Restaurants almost empty. Huge supermarket near all the new hotels.
The house was very nice and was "as advertised". There were only a couple things that should be addressed: 1) There are two dog houses (with dogs in each) backed up to the wall of this house (in the alley) that barked every night....very annoying. 2) Please update your picture of the property...there is not a functioning Jacuzzi....it has been filled in with dirt and plants. Neither of these things would have changed our mind staying at this house.
Our group of four adults thoroughly enjoyed our 10 day stay in Opal. We did have a rental car and feel it was a must for staying here, but everything we were looking for in a vacation was within 10mi. The house was a little difficult to find as the roads do not necessarily change names. Neighborhoods have names, then we just searched for the number. Once we found it, we were very pleased. The neighborhood was quiet and the home was updated and secure. Each room had air conditioning. It was super windy the whole time we were there. The back lanai allowed you to feel the full breeze, have a cocktail, and swing in the hammock. The front porch blocked the wind considerably. This is better when you get tired of the wind, but you feel the heat and humidity much more then. The pool and landscaping were well taken care of and easy on the eyes. A hummingbird and blue-spotted lizards came to visit everyday. The interior of the home had plenty of space with 3BR and 2 full baths. The living room was a bit smaller, but we didn't spend much time there anyway. The water pressure was good. The tap water was also tasty. That saved us a bunch on buying bottled water. The grill was in "island" shape. We used a little foil and it worked great. The kitchen was ample. It helped that it was open to the dining room. Otherwise, it would be kind of tight. There were plenty of kitchen supplies, also. The artist's eye was evident in the original artworks throughout the property. From the house, it was possible to walk 10 minutes across a little rough terrain and be at a gorgeous beach. However, we opted to see a different beach everyday. We loaded the car with the beach chairs and snorkel gear provided at the house. We left it in the car and it was there each day. In the residential and Oranjestad area, there is a grocery store every few blocks. There are eateries every few blocks also. Once you leave the more populated area, things are a little more "deserted, " as in desert-like. All of the beaches have their own beautiful qualities. We would suggest snorkeling at Baby Beach, Boca Catalina, and Arashi. We loved eating at Cafe 080 and Salt and Peppers (esp at Happy Hour).
The only negative at this property is the neighborhood dogs that provide a wake up call early each morning.
Neil was a very helpful property owner that responded quickly with each inquiry. His recommendations for the area were very much appreciated.
My family of four (daughters ages 13 & 10) stayed here for a week and loved it. I was originally looking at condos in the "low rise" area but am glad I decided on this house with a private pool and plenty of space. The house is situated in the Opal area which surrounds the Aruba racquet club just east of the Ritz-Carlton and Hadicurari beach. The other homes in the area appear to be of a similar quality, with gated driveways and pools. The house has an alarm system and a gated entrance.
The house itself is great, with modern appliances and air conditioning units in all of the bedrooms as well as the great room. The kitchen is well equipped and there is also a gas grill on the patio. The pool wraps around the corner of the house and the patio and gardens are beautiful. Given the shape and size of the pool, there is plenty of sun or shade on the patio and in the pool throughout the day.
There is a small grocery store as you enter the neighborhood with all the essentials and we also went to superfoods which has a much larger selection and was slightly less expensive. While the description says it is a five minute walk to the beach, we drove to Arashi Beach which is a couple miles north of Hadicurari. Both beaches have plenty of room but Hadicurari is the "wind surfers" beach with plenty of kite and wind surfers zipping around so Arashi seemed better suited for our family. We typically packed a cooler and had lunch on the beach and Arashi also had decent snorkeling right off the beach.
The spot is also only a two or three minute drive from the "high rise" shopping and restuarant area (I'd recommend the Lazy Turtle for dinner, Gelatissimo for great gelato and Linda's Pancakes for breakfast/brunch). I'd also recommend private snorkeling Aruba if you are considering a snorkeling trip. Rene, the owner, was great.
All in all, we really enjoyed the house and our time in Aruba. Neil answered all of my questions in a timely fashion and they provide a nice booklet with info on the house, alarm, wifi, etc. I would say a rental car is a must if you are staying at this property. We rented from Tropic Rental for less than $200 for the week. We will definitely be checking the availability of this home when we return to Aruba.
Opal was a delight to rent from beginning to end. Neil was excellent to work with and provided great information. The house is exactly as it appears in the pictures and descriptions. It was very clean and felt like home. All drawers are labeled in the kitchen for easy food prep. There is even a nice grill on the back patio! I loved having a washer and dryer and not having to bring home a suitcase of dirty clothes! You don't have to pack near as many things if you can wash clothes!
The location of the house is perfect. . We rented a vehicle from Europ Car Rental at the airport. It took approximately 20 mins to get from the airport to Opal. We didn't have to deal with all the island traffic and the house is very close to several beaches. With the exception of 4-wheeling and the Natural Pool (Conch), most things we wanted to do were within 10 mins of the house. Neil provided information for Rancho Loco which was great for horse riding to the Natural Pool.
We spent a lot of time on the beach in front of the Moomba Restruant. It has a very nice beachy atmosphere. You can rent umbrellas, tables, chairs, and sign up for any number of water activities right there on the beach. I would recommend Roberto's Water Sports for snorkling! The price was very reasonable and the service was excellent!
I would highly recommend renting this house and working with the owners! I don't believe I have ever had such wonderful customer service!
