About Benn Batterson

I was born and raised in Coudersport. After meeting my wife and graduating from Penn State we moved back to the area. I had met the previous owner of the farm while working on their grounds.

We currently live and raise our family on a sheep farm in Potter County. We strive to provide a childhood of years gone past

Benn Batterson purchased this farmhouse in 2000

Why Benn Batterson chose Galeton

We purchased the farmhouse and 34 acres in 2000 and bought the remainder of the farm years later. Over the years we have improved much of the house with the latest being a new barn roof this past summer.

I love the peace and quiet here. However the winters can be long between Christmas and Spring.

What makes this farmhouse unique

We are 20 minutes from the nearest traffic light. Our farm is bordered on three sides by 250,000 acres of State Forest land. Public access to these areas allows for many outdoor activities. We are the last permanent residence on Short Run Road and may only see the mailman each day in the winter.

You will be visiting a farm that was established in the late 1800s. The first German settlers established the village of Germania @ 1860 and created their farms in the outlying countryside. They cleared the land of trees and brush to grow their crops and raise livestock.

Beautiful, quiet and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

The house and property surrounding were beautiful- exactly what we had hoped for. We love the charm and history of old houses so this place was right up our alley! We spent the long weekend enjoying time with our young kids- playing with the chickens, sled riding on the hill across the road, family time hanging out and playing games. The first full day there, the weather was in the 50s so we took that time to drive around and explore- the warm weather led to melting ice and some really beautiful scenery at the local parks, despite the constant light rain that fell most of the day. That night, there was a snow storm that came through laying a few inches of snow- enough that we could have fun playing and sled riding with the kids. Our last night there, the skies were clear and we were able to take in the stars (without a telescope). We've visited the area before but it's just as beautiful every time we are up there! Benn was very accommodating and friendly. He greeted us as we arrived and was great about communicating with me prior to our trip to ensure that we had everything we needed. We are definitely hoping to stay here again- maybe during the summer months so we can enjoy everything that the property has to offer during the warm weather season!

There is a time when the birds have gone to sleep but the crickets haven't started yet when there is complete silence. Everything I needed was in the house, and everything I wanted was in that silence outside the house.

Peace, quiet, stargazing and chickens!

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this lovely farmhouse tucked away in Potter County. We didn't have the best skies for star gazing but the second night we did enjoy about 45 minutes of crystal clear skies perfect for stargazing. For an easy day trip, we went to Kinzua State Park and trekked out on the railroad bridge and down in to the valley with the it's ruins. There are so many other state parks in the area, take your pick for a nice hike. For free time spent in the house, I'd recommend bringing activities like books, games, etc. The house is quite lovely and very clean. Thanks for the wonderful weekend Benn!

charming farmhouse, welcoming hosts

  • 4 of 5

Had a terrific stay in Galeton, PA. Home is a beautifully kept antique farmhouse complete with chickens in the yard! Terrific spot to unplug! (No phone service via AT&T) but free wifi kept us in touch with the outside world. Gorgeous, clear sky for star-gazing and gracious and accommodating hosts! Would recommend this spot to anyone looking to rest and re-charge. Great way to experience a relaxed and leisurely form life on the farm.

Serenity & Beauty

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at the home so we could enjoy the scenery of this beautiful country on our motorcycle.

The property was as advertised and more. Very, very clean and tidy. Everything we needed including an interesting library, well stocked kitchen and ample room. Amazing views from all the windows, wonderful hosts and chickens and more. Watched the incredible light show of the stars (worth getting up at 4:00 am to see), and stayed up to watch the sunrise while deer grazed in the pastures.

We met Thankful and her daughters, and they couldn't have been nicer or more helpful with anything we needed. So glad we found this quiet and beautiful place, went home totally relaxed.

The views are breathtaking, the country life felt so relaxing and invigorating!

We went to the Bratz Farmhouse with hopes of great viewing opportunities of the night sky and weren't disappointed. But while that may have drawn us to the property, we felt the farm life suited us just fine! My wife even got to hand feed carrots to Carlos (a bull in the field with Sadie). The chickens were entertainment too! Definitely clean and our host made sure we had everything we needed!
