Named "La porte du ciel" (Heaven's Gate) by a priest who lived here for years, he was only referred to by locals as the priest. No one knew his name but they saw him often as he walked about the area he knew as home. This is the second house to be completed in an old 19th century family compound of adobes that is being renovated just blocks away from Albuquerque's Old Town Plaza. A typical "shot gun" style house with a pitched tin roof, the house maintains its late 1800s original footprint although it has all the 21st century upgrades -- modern bathroom, fully equipped kitchen, central heating/cooling system, WiFi. There is also access to a laundry room that was originally bathrooms separate from the houses, not completed until 1957. What has been maintained is the simple architectural features of the house, the original plank flooring, high ceilings, a private backyard patio with access to a shared coyote fence ramada in the back lot. It is across the street from the Centennial Park and all the major museums which were the agricultural fields of old Albuquerque over 100 years ago. To view the larger casita that is located in the same compound, refer to listing 3895291. This makes a wonderful multi-unit for extended families or friends vacationing together.

About Kris Linton
I am a retired therapist who has always loved local history and architecture in Albuquerque, my native home. My husband and I have lived in and renovated old homes for over 35 years. We have one daughter who lives in London and also loves old buildings.
Kris Linton purchased this House in 2014
Why Kris Linton chose Old Town
It had been for sale for over 3 years and 3 of the 4 homes on the property were not inhabitable. Because of its wonderful location close to Old Town and across the street from the park, we were afraid someone may raze the old buildings and build something modern. We loved the old modest adobes.
What makes this House unique
We have made every effort to maintain the integrity of these old houses while providing modern conveniences that 21st century families expect. We have worked side by side with craftsmen that work with adobes, tin roofs, hand plastering and technicians that have made electrical wires, heating elements and plumbing features as discreet as possible.

We spent a wonderful week at the property. Nice and quite. Great historic property with "modern conveiences", exceptionally decorated , and very clean. Short walk to "Old Town".

The owner was fantastic.
We cannot wait to return.
Atmospheric, historic little house very close to the center of old town.
What a fab experience to stay in The Priest’s House. It was very close to the center of old town. Beautifully renovated, the aura of history was very exciting to be a part of. I loved it inside and kept popping outside to take in the setting. Great fun!
My family loved Casita de Padre! So close to some of our favorite spots and so comfortable to stay in. We look forward to our next visit!
Cozy and convenient
We enjoyed our stay very much, and simply walking over to the Albq museum and old town church was very convenient. The house was cozy, clean, and well equipped with everything you need. Our dachshund liked the fenced yard. Would do it again. - Tom & Adrianne
