Rundown and overrun with roaches

  • 2 of 5

I was very excited about our 3 night / long weekend stay in Port A and found this cute little cluster of cottages that looked like would be the perfect place for my husband and our two small dogs to stay due to the location and fenced in area. Well, those two features were the only two good things about this place which warrants my two star rating. Upon our arrival to the cottage, I was impressed with the little neighborhood and the amazing deck and fence work. Our first overall impression was that this place needed some TLC. After we entered the cottage through the bedroom door, my husband and I immediately noticed hair, both human and dog, on the floors. After walking through to the tiny kitchenette / living area, we came upon a big rug that was completely filthy, covered in dog and human hair and also found an old piece of dog feces. Then our attention went to the mismatched furniture which did not match what was in the photos. A terribly uncomfortable bench with no arms or backing was put in place of one of the arm chairs. At this point, remorse started setting in. After further inspection of the outdoor area, we came upon a poorly maintained lawn with uneven areas, ashes dumped onto it from the nearby BBQ grill and a bunch of ants. I immediately decided to call the property managers, Sand Key Realty, to express my concerns. Since it was after hours on a Friday night, I had to leave a message with the answering service. The next morning, I received a call back from Aubrey who at first was adamant that she did a walk-through earlier and said she thought the place was clean. Well, I begged to differ with her and told her perhaps we have higher standards of cleanliness. I also mentioned how rundown the place was overall than we initially thought. She offered to refund my money so I can go elsewhere but at this point, I didn't want to be homeless and have to find another suitable, pet-friendly place to stay and instead, I asked her to send someone to clean the floors and take care of the ants. I also suggested they credit me for the inconvenience which she did and offered a refund in the amount of a one night's rental fee which I was happy about. My husband and I decided we were going to pretend that we were "glamping" to make the best of our situation. That was until we had to kill giant cockroaches all weekend long! The owner needs to seriously consider investing into sealing doors, windows and making some updates. Stay away until then.

Adorable Beach Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband and 2 teenage daughters enjoyed our 4day 3 night stay in Cottage #22. Loved the closed in yard and outside deck. Great location, in the heart of downtown. Very close to Shopping and Resturants. I would suggest bringing your own fan as there is just a small window unit air conditioner, located in the bedroom, only and no ceiling fans. We would definitely book this exact cottage again. Stay Salty, the McDaniel Family.

Nice, minimalist furnishings. Everything worked and the beds were comfy! We love staying in the Spanish Village - great location. The fenced yard is a plus for anyone traveling with pets.

Great property for a last minute trip

  • 5 of 5

I was very impressed with the property. Having a fenced yard for the dogs was very handy. The property was clean and everything was as described on the website. The property is in a great location with several bars and restaurants within walking distance. It did get very cold one night and I probably should have called for another heater. The next morning I was contacted to see how I was doing and if I was warm enough. I appreciated the staff taking time to do that. I will definitely be returning next winter and I would recommend the property. It was the perfect size for me but would probably be considered cramped for anything beyond 3 people. Overall a well deserved 5 star rating.
