Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 3 - 4 nights

About the property

Soaring Ceilings, Right on the Lake, Boats, Snowshoes, Sauna, great hiking

Get away from civilization and back to nature in this immaculate European style chalet on very pretty and remote Charley Lake. The cabin has soaring celings is all windows so you can enjoy the beauty of the lake and the surrounding mountains and trees from the inside as well as on hikes and adventures.

3 bedrooms, 4 beds, 1 bath, sleeps up to 6, however is the perfect romantic getaway for two!

Guests have use of the private wood fired sauna (great after a cool dip in the lake or roll in the snow), an indoor fireplace for those cooler eves, and an outdoor fire pit for stargazing and marshmallow roasting.

Swim, kayak, canoe, paddle board, read, bbq, hike, stargaze or do nothing but relax! It is simple, peaceful and quiet here. We supply one stand up paddle board, one kayak, one 2 person canoe and very nice lake floats. The sauna is a relaxing treat after a cool afternoon or evening dip in the lake.

The lake and dock are just 15 feet from the house, great for kids and for swimming. We have a cusom bar with stools on the deck, perfect for that first cup of coffee in the am, or that first glass of wine in the afternoon. Loons live on this lake, their beautiful call is an amazing sound to experience, it reverberates and echoes off the surrounding mountains. Distant owl and coyote calls also frequently heard here.

Great hiking and beautiful waterfalls nearby, we supply a full list of nature hikes, restaurants, museums and things to do. Saratoga and Lake George are one hour drive, Lake Placid is two. Gorgeous drives to many surrounding lakes in this area.

If you are interested in more action, 15 minutes in either direction are surrounding towns which have restaurants, bigger lakes, more hiking, free tennis, basketball, beaches and some stunning waterfalls.

Cooks will be thrilled with the exceptional and well stocked chefs kitchen. You are also welcome to use the Weber Charcoal Grill outside.

This is a great spot for skiers, snowmobilers, cross country skiing and snowshoe enthusiasts. This cabin was built to take advantage of the beautiful winters here. Exceptionally private, we are the only cabin open in winter on our side of the lake. Exceptionally quiet, the only sounds you will hear are birds, owls and the occasional coyote cry from the surrounding mountains.

The cozy Dutch fireplace will take the chill off after your outdoor activities, or, for a full body bone thawing, relax in the lakeside steam sauna.

Snowmobiling - we are right on the snowmobile trail, no need to haul sleds anywhere. Snowmobile rentals nearby or bring your own. Thousands of miles of trails from here to Canada! We are near a lesser used trail, so it is not noisy here.

Skiing - fabulous, fun, family friendly local Oak Ski Mountain is just 10 minutes away. A unique small town mountain with big ideas, they have sledding and other winter activities for the kids, great food, fun bar and live music too! Gore is 40 minute drive. Lapland Lake is one of the best cross country ski resorts in the east, 30 minute drive, Garnett Hiil is also amazing, about 1 hour drive.

Fishing - this lake is known for it's ice fishing. You'll likely have all the fish in the lake to yourselves in winter.

Sauna - the lakeside wood fired steam sauna is terrific after a roll in the snow.

Snowshoes - we supply 4 sets - take them across the lake or venture out onto the trails and through the woods.

Hiking - we supply a list of fun winter hikes, including waterfalls which are beautiful in winter.

There are 3 bedrooms. Upstairs is an open loft bedroom with queen mattress which is a sleep number so you can adjust firmness on both sides to make both happy! Downstairs are two bedrooms, each with one double bed, one of the bedrooms also has a fun single loft bunk, for a total of 4 beds in house. There is one bathroom (shower only). We recently added a hand crafted outside wood bar to the deck, great for enjoying your coffee in AM or glass of wine in PM while overlooking the lake. Lap blankets also supplied for those cooler days.

The view across the lake is of wooded land and mountains, just a few houses in sight. Comes with Weber charcoal grill, full chefs kitchen with Viking gas stove and convection oven, dishwasher, good dishes and very high quality pots and pans. High speed internet and a landline provided (no cell service here!). Huge flat screen TV for watching Netflix movies, but no cable. Dine at the table for 6 with lake view or eat lakeside on the picnic table. Front lawn has adirondack chairs for drinking in the piece and quiet and the views, more seating found around the fire pit.

What's to LOVE? The house has amazing views, is quiet, charming and eco friendly, cabin is new and kept in immaculate condition so even the most discerning should be very pleased. Nice privacy (most private in winter) and on a unusually peaceful mountain lake. We supply detailed lists of where to go and what do to in the area, and the house is well stocked with things to make your stay easy and breezy - just bring food and we do ask you to bring your own towels.

What might you NOT Love? The well water has naturally occurring iron (minerals) in it which turns it a slight yellow color. Although perfectly fine to use and drink, we provide filtered drinking water for guest comfort. The eco friendly waterfront septic is too sensitive to allow for use of a washer/dryer - so we don't have them. We provide nice quality linens for the beds, bath mats, hand and kitchen towels, but ask guests to please bring their own bath and beach towels, or, for an additional cleaning fee, we will supply bath towels. There is a laundromat down the road a bit.

Also, RECYCLES are a real hassle here. Guests who choose to stay here must agree to take home what you brought in. Leaving a few is fine (less than one bag in total!) but must follow the towns strict recycle rules - they must be kept clean and separate from garbage. We (i.e. the housekeeper) then have to take them to the dump and separate them into bins by hand (joy!). She simply cannot handle this task if large amounts are left. So - our general rule here is similar to camping - if you brought it in, you must agree to take it out.

Max 6 persons (includes children). Rates provided are for 2 guests, there is a $10 per person, per day fee for additional persons, regardless of age.

This is a NO PARTIES, NO SMOKING, NO PETS (no exceptions, sorry!), NO LOUD NOISE and allergen free home. Due to the quiet nature of this lake, we ask that guests refrain from outside music or any loud disturbances, particularly at night - sounds carry easily across lakes disturbing others. So this is NOT the right place if your group is not able to keep noise down, but it IS a great place to find some peace and quiet.

About Maura

David and Maura spend lots of time in the Adirondacks year round. We swim, flat water and white water kayak, paddle board, hike, downhill ski, snowshoe, cross country, snowmobile and simply chill up here.

Maura has a family camp nearby, her family has been coming here for 60 years. We live and work in NYC, it's a 4 hour drive, just put in a book on tape, and in no time we are in paradise. Dave and Maura both work for themselves, and are working hard towards an early retirement to the Adirondacks.

Maura purchased this cabin in 2015

Why Maura chose New York

A true Adirondack Mountaintop Spring Fed Lake. Very private area, very pretty house, great lake and view.

Sights and sounds of wildlife surround the house.

What makes this cabin unique

Unusually nice home, immaculately clean.

Chefs kitchen with great pots and pans.

Wood Fired Sauna, swimming beach, hiking, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding and snowmobiling available right from the house. 4 sets snowshoes provided.

An Oasis on the Lake

  • 5 of 5

We arrived just before dark so it was somewhat surreal. However, when we saw how charming and nicely appointed and laid out your home was, we knew we'd come to the right place. Each room had its own particular feel to it -- from the openness of the living room and the semi-loft bedroom with a wonderful perspective to the cozy bedroom with the mini-loft. After our long drive, we all slept very well, as the temperature inside was just right.

When we awoke in the morning, we were treated to a fab view of the lake -- with more than enough "toys" to enjoy it -- a kayak, canoe, and standing surfer -- not to mention the sauna and other woodsy amenities. We tried to balance relaxing "at home" with checking out the beautiful scenery -- especially waterfalls -- within easy driving distance. We think we managed to accomplish that.

I was lucky enough to be able to hire an expert on local hikes and he took me to a magnificent overlook after a strenuous hike, and then an even lengthier one to an incredibly special "staircase-like" falls (Jimmy Crick?) that is one of the nicest I've seen anywhere. He was very knowledgeable and tolerant of a city slicker like myself, but drove me the appropriate amount (what I could take) so that I felt a great sense of accomplishment.

The family also went on a very nice hike to another falls and to a nice boardwalk nature trail in Speculator; there they also have a mini-village from the 40s (?) that is really cool as well as a genuine market that almost seems like a timepiece itself.

Maura was very responsive to any questions we had and definitely read the guide she has developed to the house and the surrounding area -- full of useful information.

In sum, it's a combination of factors that make this home, lake, and surrounding area a special place to visit. We left feeling we had enjoyed a very different, yet at the same time, very comfortable locale and experience. We highly recommend it and hope to come back again before too long.

Eventhough we weren't able to take advantage of the snowshoes and nearby trails due to the -3* temps, the sauna, woodstove and view made up for it. Directions, details and communication was fantastic as well. Loved our quiet weekend here.

Nice Home

  • 4 of 5

Thank you for sharing your home with us. The property is clean and well maintained.

However, this is more a summer gateway. It is private in winter, but in summer your neighbors are extremely close. Not too many hikes close to the property. We will stick with the high peaks area and go back to Keene Valley.

Best regards,

A Quiet Place for R&R

  • 5 of 5

I loved the cabin and the little lake. The whole setting provided a restful time away from home and work. Mid-October meant almost no neighbors. The quiet itself was healing. The wood stove easily heated the cabin & the furnace did not run until the last day when I had to clean the ashes out. Well-equipped kitchen. Wonderful library of books, too!

This property has all the amenities of home. The owners have taken the time to attend to every detail for our comfort. The property is beautiful overlooking Charley lake. This is our third time vacationing here and we definitely will be back next year in both summer and fall . We highly recommend this vacation getaway.

Peace, beauty and taste!

  • 5 of 5

This Adirondack home is a hidden gem. The property itself is beautiful, the amenities and decor tasteful and comforting. We bring our family to the mountains every Fall and this, by far, was our favorite. I'm not sure if it was easy access to nearby trails, the solitude of being engulfed by the mountains lit up with the colors of Fall or the sauna! That was phenomenal!! We highly recommend a stay here!!

Car: necessary

The Southern Adirondacks have very picturesque lakes, mountains, waterfalls and hiking. Only 4 hour drive from Manhattan, but feels like a thousand miles away :)

Hiking, skiing, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, snowshoeing, waterskiing, antiquing, reading, wiring, painting, sleeping, eating, relaxing, and enjoying are favorite pastimes in this area.

There is a very fun little zoo nearby, the Adirondack Museum is a MUST visit. Saratoga Springs and Lake George are a 1 hour drive from here.
