Ray is a Geochemist and Dawn is the CFO of an organic dairy. We've been married since 2000, have two children, and are looking forward to gracefully coasting into retirement over the next 10-15 years.
Dawn Fenstermacher purchased this villa in 2011
We traveled around the Bahamas numerous times between 2003 and 2010, and we made a special trip for our anniversary in 2011 specifically to look at different properties, but this one was not on our list. We spent the weekend looking at many properties, but none of them inspired us like 'Tree Tops'. That was the name of the property before we bought it.
Perhaps the tipping point for both Dawn and I was the handwritten quote from Isaiah 41....'For I am the Lord your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.' We both noticed it as we were walking through the house, and it was one of the first things we commented on when we were alone and comparing notes.
We went back home and immediately started the process of buying the home, and viola'......7 months later the property was ours.
The previous owners were school teachers and since they were in the middle of the school year, they needed a place to stay. So we offered to rent the house to them until they were done with school, and this worked out fine for us as we were just getting comfortable with the idea of owning a vacation home so far away. We were gnawing at the bit to visit Selah Vie and to start putting our personal touch on things, and finally in July 2012 we got to stay in our home for the first time.
This property spoke to us right from the start and we just felt comfortable immediately. The house is secluded and quiet, which is just what we were looking for. It is very near to the beach and the beach is just beautiful. The house was well-maintained and really just needed minor renovations/adjustments for us to feel at home.
We're confident that you'll fall in love with Selah Vie just like we did, and we feel blessed to be able to offer this wonderful experience to anyone who wants to come and visit.
If you are looking for a quiet get away to a pristine beach, this is your place!
This was our first time to Abacos and it is a bigger island than we thought. Make sure that you have EVERYTHING you need from the grocery and liquor store, it's a good 30 minute drive from Marsh Harbor to Bahama Palm Shores. There are No close restaurants either, so you are on your own.
The house was exactly as pictured, clean, nice furniture and comfy beds. Unfortunately a storm blew out the internet, tv, and local telephone at some point before we got there and it was the week the caretaker took a vacation. We really felt isolated, but the owner did everything they could from the US to get the internet fixed and get us a new local phone, but we had no tv for movies. Luckily we did pay for a texting plan on our US phones and I did have the owners info with me.
The water had a sulfur smell that did go away after a few days. We love to cook and found the kitchen pot/pans and utensils lacking, but there was a gas grill. The beach was beautiful to walk on as we did it every morning, but come afternoon the tide took most of it away. The water was also very nice, but nothing close for snorkeling. There might have been chairs for the beach, but they were not sand chairs that I would normally use. They were also stored under the house and anything there would need a good cleaning before I would touch it. Definitely bring your bug spray as the sand flies were very pesty.
The pool was there but if you are not very agile, it's hard to get in and out of. Definitely bring you bug spray if you want to sit on the porch or go in the pool. We didn't spend a lot of time outside, although it did look beautiful.
If you want to be in a nice home that is secluded with a jungle feel, this is for you.
Selah Vie was everything we were hoping for and more! The home is beautiful, the setting is romantic and private, the beach is secluded with crystal clear water, and the owners are wonderful and responsive.
A short walk to the beach, private above-ground pool on a deck accessible from both bedrooms and front entrance, palm trees, exotic birds, blooming flowers...it's all here!
Whether you are a couple seeking a romantic getaway or a family seeking a memorable vacation, Selah Vie has it all.
Consider a vacation at Selah Vie....you will not be disappointed!
My husband and I went looking for a side trip to the Bahamas that was remote, affordable, and relaxing, we got more than we could have expected with Selah Vie. From the get the owners were awesome providing recommendations on rental cars and grocery shopping tips. At the house they have maps, tips and all kinds of island information that truly helped us enjoy our vacation. I was really impressed with the house, it was clean, spacious and had everything we could need. The deck being above the trees was a great place to view the treetops and animals , especially in the evening when the local parrots will fly around and talk to each other. At the house we were visited by geckos, lizards, woodpeckers, and those Abaco parrots. My husband and I enjoyed playing cards on the deck in the evening, the house was well stocked with mosquito repellant which is needed. The beach is two blocks away, and we had the beach to ourselves all three days we were there.
The house was well equipped with movies which we enjoyed after maybe getting too much sun on the beach.
This island is quiet, just the pace we were looking for. Selah Vie is an amazing place to stay not only for the accommodations but for the support of the owners as well. I felt like they were our own travel guides.
We can't wait to go back, we will definitely look to stay here again. If you do go, listen to the recommendations from the owners we shopped around and they were always right. Also make sure you visit Petes pub... Food is very good, vibe is great, view can't be beat.
This place was even better then we could have imagined!
We were two couples looking for a nice place with modern amenities of the beaten path to spend some relaxing time.
Well we found it!!
This house is nice and spacious with a big kitchen and living area.
The wrap around deck has amazing views it felt like you were in the treetops. On our last day we were lucky enough to see a dozen of the local Abaco parrot.
Though not directly on the water it was only a short walk of 2 minutes. The beach was beautiful and very secluded. We were the only ones there most of the time. We met one of the locals when we made a fire on the beach who was very friendly. She even offered us more firewood and rum punch (thanks Nancy:)
Pete's pub, Hope Town and renting a boat are all musts.
We had a great time and look forward staying here again in the future!
loved the location - the walk to the beach was very quick - not even a city block away!
saw lots of parrots and hermit crabs at the house - what fun!
felt very safe and private. the neighbors are all so friendly.
Saw Mill Sink Blue Hole is within a 2 mile drive. A great place to take a picnic lunch and go for a swim.
