Tony & Rhonda Hagenstein are on a 30-year honeymoon. We found our paradise (Shakaree is a Vulcan term for paradise, and Tony is an avid Star Trek fan), and realized that we live where people come to vacation! We have converted our lower level to a vacation rental, and are anxious to share our awesome property with friends (old and new) and family. Come join us in the Shakaree experience!
Tony purchased this house in 2014
We purchased Shakaree in 2014, after an exhaustive search including over 100 homes. After over 20 years working in Phoenix, it was time to have seasons again when Tony retired. The mountains, trees, wildlife and the lake help make our home the perfect place to live out our lives.
The drive to our home is the first step to finding the perfect place. Three miles of Lake Couer d'Alene coastline, followed by a mile drive into the forest. Reaching the end of our road, you find your first spectacular overview of the lake.
Our home was custom-built for the original owner, with attention to quality and comfort (we just love the instant hot water!). Your worries evaporate into the mountain air, and you are taken away to a place of quiet serenity.
We had a wonderful time celebrating our anniversary in this very scenic private house. When we arrived, Tony showed us the beautiful place with an amazing view of the lake. He pointed out the patio and the things that go with it that we could enjoy. He gave us a short tour of the spacious accommodation with a nicely furnished living room, a big full kitchen next to the laundry room, a comfortable cozy bedroom, and a nice clean bathroom. The fruit in the kitchen and the Idaho chocolate bars added a special welcoming touch. The Wi-Fi internet connection in the property is not always on, so be sure to call and ask Tony to turn it on if you need access to the internet. Tony and Rhonda are gracious, hospitable, and accommodating. We recommend this lovely, quiet and secluded getaway (yet close to hiking trails, restaurants, shops, and parks) and all it has to offer for a relaxing and comfortable home away from home.
From the moment we arrived at this vacation rental, we were greeted by the owners and their dog, Barkley. They made us feel very welcome and even left us fresh fruit in the kitchen. Their property sits above Lake Coeur d' Alene and is surrounded by trees, wild animals come through the yard such as deer and elk and it is amazingly quiet. The amenities are very nice including a large selection of movies, full size kitchen and laundry and the bed is extremely comfortable. The owners are very quiet and there were many times we didn't even realize they were home. It is about a 10 minute drive to downtown CDA and there are businesses close by such as a gas station, redbox movie rental, restaurants and a couple pubs to name a few.
If you have any issues with mobility or walking down stairs, this might not be suitable as you have to go down some outdoor steps to get to the rental unit. Besides that, it is worth the trip and I would stay here again. Thank you for the wonderful stay at Shakaree!!
This is a perfect getaway home for active couples and doggies. Tony and Rhonda are super nice hosts that
strive to make your stay enjoyable. Home is awesome quiet location while still being remote. I like to cook and everything was available in the kitchen for serving meals. Only suggestion I'd have to to have a tiered price system for renting multiple nites. The longer the stay would reduce the total cost. Thanks much.
Tony and Rhonda greeted us at the door. They are wonderful hosts. If you want a great, quiet, beautiful place to stay with truly wonderful views just five minutes from the hustle of downtown CDA, this is the place. We will definitely be back!
Our home is less than one mile from the Ironman route, along Coeur d"Alene Lake Drive. We also feature access to our large storage area, where you can tinker with your bikes or make repairs.
