About Zak, manager

We have been living in Tuscany and renting villas since 1998, making us one of the longest serving rental agencies of villas in this beautiful part of Italy. Besides La Casella, which is our favorite vacation property, you can find many others on our website at www.tuscanhouse.com

Why Zak, manager chose Val di Chiana

After a long search for the perfect country house for our family vacations and retreats, we discovered this ruin of house and tower near the marvelous hill town of Cetona. We love this region for it's natural beauty from the majestic Mt Cetona down to the fertile farming valley of Val di Chiana where the highway and train lines run. You will have an easy time on day-trips to all over Tuscany and Umbria, either by car or train from this central location.

The wooded slopes of Mt Cetona are dotted with many farms, towns and villages adored by travelers. Food is delicious, wines are superb and low cost making it a joy to feast at several local restaurants right here in Cetona. This region is loaded with things to see and do, and we are happy to give you advice and share our peace of heaven with you.

What makes this villa unique

Historical notes:

The house is formed by two parts and the oldest part that currently is the highest one, during the medieval period, was one of the various sighting Towers utilized by the papal army in the area. For this reason, it was built on the top of the hill from where it is possible to have a great view all over the region.

During the centuries, due to wars and weather conditions, part of the tower fell down and it was rebuilt in various ways always in consideration of its use as a watch tower, for housing and farm storage. The lower part of the house, was built attached to the old Tower in the second half of 1800's. Up to when the owner bought and remodeled it, the ground floor was used as a stable, cow shed and pigsty, while the tower was a storehouse for grains. The upper floor was dedicated to the living area of the family. You can see the story of the remodeling and the changes in the photos you find at the house-book of the villa.

Notes:
We love this comfortable country house and especially since it's close enough to walk into Cetona. The stones and bricks salvaged and reused add centuries old patina. Travetine stone stairs and vintage wrought iron gates set this place apart. Admire the panoramic views up the mountain and down to the valley. Neighbors are far enough not to be any bother, or to be seen. Giant tall cypresses and oaks shield us from sight. The terraced grounds were replanted with olive and fruit trees, in addition to several older ones there already. The pool occupies an open terrace below the house, with a wide patio for sunbathing. The secret outdoor room between the pool and the house has become the guest's favorite hangout in the afternoons because it's well furnished and in the shade. We have lights there so in the evenings people like to sit out for drinks after dinner, well into the night. Come join us!

Vacanza perfetta!

  • 5 of 5
