This beautiful, very quiet and peaceful home in an exclusive residential community is just minutes to the beaches. It is situated on the water. Watch magnificent sunsets from the private community beach, one mile away. Fishing is excellent.

Florida beaches in the area: The beaches along the Sun Coast of Florida are some of the most beautiful and safest in the world. These include the following: Anclote Key State Park and Game Preserve, Fred Howard Park, Tarpon Springs, Clearwater Beach, Caladesi Island, Honeymoon Island, Treasure Island, St Pete Beach, and Fort De Soto Park.

The string of beaches from Anclote Key in the north to Fort De Soto in the South covers 36 miles and has some of the best beaches in the United States, including Hawaii.

These beaches range from isolated, undeveloped tropical islands accessible only by boat (Anclote Key, Caladesi Island) to packed tourist beaches with all the souvenir shops, grouper sandwich shops, and nightclubs. The people that rank beaches place Caladesi Island State Park, Anclote Key State Park, and Fort De Soto park in the top ten beaches in the United States, with most of the other top ten beaches being in Hawaii.

There are more than 20 'barrier islands' called 'keys', along the Florida west coast. The Gulf waters that lap on the shores of these island are warm and clear. The slope of the beach is very gentle, making the beaches safe for small children to play at the water's edge.

Every possible water sport can be enjoyed along these beaches including fishing in the grass flats, deep-sea fishing, boating, sailing, canoeing, sea kayaking, SCUBA diving, windsurfing, shelling, para-sailing, swimming, and water skiing.

1.

Anclote Key State Park and Game Preserve

More than 1,000 years ago, this island was pushed up from the floor of the Gulf of Mexico to rest on a limestone platform. It is still slowly growing today and its size has increased by more than 25% since 1956. This four mile long island is one of the few truly unspoiled and undeveloped islands left along the Florida coast.

Anclote Lighthouse

The abandoned lighthouse on the southern end of this remote island adds to the islands fragile beauty and character. The lighthouse was built in the 1880's and served almost 100 years to protect the mariners in the Gulf of Mexico. With the advent of more modern navigational tools such as the Long Range Navigation System (LORAN), and later the Global Position System (GPS), the lighthouse became obsolete. It was decommissioned in 1984 and for the last 16 years has been abandoned.

Anclote Wildlife

Rare and endangered birds and turtles inhabit Anclote Key.

Visitors travel to the island by boat every year to enjoy the more than 43 species of birds that live there including the American oystercatcher, bald eagle, and ospreys (sometimes called fish eagles). The ospreys have numerous nesting sites in the tall pine trees that cover the island. Turtles can also be spotted on the island including endangered loggerheads and green turtles.

Anclote Activities

The main activity on the island is swimming in the shallow Gulf waters that are as warm as a bathtub in the summers. The gradual slope of the beaches makes it easy for oldsters as well as youngsters to enjoy the clear warm waters, which are said by some to provide comfort for the soul as well as the body. Shelling is also a favorite activity. Several species of shells can be collected. Sand dollars can also be found by digging your toes into the sand in about two or three feet of water and feeling the sand dollars under the surface of the sand

Updates needed but overall a great alternative to a hotel for the price

  • 4 of 5

I will start off by saying we had a great stay. The kids loved the pool and we enjoyed being able to let them swim while we were making dinner on the grill. We had 10 people stay, and there was plenty of room. There were a few minor issues and the place could use some updating all around but all in all we had a great stay and the cons listed did not affected how much we enjoyed our vacation.

Pros:

Beds comfortable, smelled fresh and clean when we arrived, layout was nice for sharing with another family as the bedrooms were split up with two on one side of the house and one on the out her, bikes included, 2 beach chairs, pool was great with an alarm on the door (great with small children) charcoal grill which we used for every dinner we made at the house, super close to anything you may need including restaurants/grocery store/Wal Mart/liquor store/anything!

Cons: very outdated, table was uneven so we had to level with cardboard, dining chair's seats were not attached to the chair so we had to be careful with the small kids using them, lack of necessities provide such as toilet paper/paper towels/condiments/etc, postings throughout the house had conflicting info in regards to trash days /how to care for the pool and other small things

Very clean.. Not good fishing

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay. The house was very clean and well equipped. The pool was small, but nice. The private beach was great. We went snorkeling and watched the sunset. You have to go the Hella's bakery in Tarpon Springs. Also, the steakhouse in the mall is very good. The only disappointment was fishing off the dock. That was the biggest reason we chose this house. The neighbors were nice, but informed us that the fishing is usually poor because they are toward the end of the waterway. My husband ended up going on 2 chapters that week instead and had a great time. Overall, it was a wonderful stay.

Owner's Response: I'm sorry you did not have much luck fishing off the dock. As always fishing is a hit or miss sport. When me and my family go down for five weeks that usually takes a week or two to figure out what fish are in there and what bait to use. But once you get out into the gulf usually you're always find something that hits the bait you're using. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay hopefully will see you again soon Ralph

Prefect getaway

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect. Having a house on the water, with a pool was great for a town that wasn't very touristy. Having access to the private beach made the vacation as well, it was beautiful and peaceful. Tarpon springs and even Clearwater aren't to far away. You may have to search for them but close to some good restraunts. Windsong was great for renting a pontoon for a few days which you can dock at the house. The house is well maintained and we'll equipped for all your cooking needs! The pool was pretty dirty upon arrival but was cleaned in the 1st part of the week and the grass mowed later in the week. The fenced yard was a big plus for the dog!! Having a washer and dryer really helped as well. We can't thank Ralph enough for allowing us to use his home to make a very memorable vacation for us and our fur baby.

Very comfortable, spacious home in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

Visited for 30 days & enjoyed every minute. Home & property were all that were promised & neighbors were very warm & friendly. As others have stated, home has a great floor plan & is perfect for accommodating extra family or visiting friends. On arrival, home was very clean & fresh. The canal is very quiet as is the neighbourhood & the grounds & pool were maintained regularly. All conveniences are easily accessed . Overall a very enjoyable & relaxing experience.
