House, 4 Bedrooms, 4.5 Baths, (Sleeps 9-11)
Savor dramatic penthouse views in your own private beach house. This light-filled four-story house offers the best in outdoor luxury living. Surrounded by glass and balconies on every level, Kentigern provides bedrooms with private balconies and great gathering spaces, all in one home. Enjoy the fun of your group and then retreat to your own space. Fall asleep to the sound of waves in the background. Wake up to fabulous sunrises over the Chesapeake Bay. This is a house you won’t want to leave.
Kentigern is sited on its own 2 acre sandy lot with a beach at the south end. For the adventurer, 2 kayaks on premise are provided for guest use. Kayak directly on the Chesapeake Bay or in the quiet solitude of one of the creeks where you and the herons may be the only guests. This house is an away destination: Herons are joined by osprey, bald eagles, pelicans and the occasional dolphin or two.
Scotland is steeped in history, too. St. Mary’s City, 10 miles away, is the original capital of Maryland. The area dates back to the 1600s and was one of the early colonies. Only 80 miles away is the nation’s capital, Washington, DC – if you can drag yourself away from the beautiful beach setting. Point Lookout Park, a Civil War POW camp and now a large park and campground, is only a short bike ride away. Nestled between the Bay and the Potomac River, the Park is worth an expedition.
Return to Kentigern again and again.

Sports & Adventure Activities
It was a very long way from Chattanooga for the travelers but the day had been a strikingly beautiful one. Nature had just begun to unfold into a new season and the mountains evoked a pride which moved our spirits, we were glad to be Americans and living in this country. We arrived in the dark but there was a welcoming warmth emitting from the lights left on in the house. We remembered the elevator and in two trips, we were in that wonderful kitchen and then on up to the third floor bathroom. Our move- in was complete! I peeped into the bedroom, all white and pristine with soft lights bouncing off the numerous windows and the sound of the waves , lapping land just outside the doors. Heaven!
After a wonderful rest on a very good bed, we breakfasted and ventured out to look around. The grounds were simple and uncontrived but obviously there had been careful considerations to renters and their enjoyment of the property, Kayaks, bikes, chairs, even the way the house sits on the property. There is natural beauty every place the eye falls. We appreciated that the authenticity of this spot was in no way compromised by flashy beach clutter. We loved it!
The rest of our family arrived and there was ample room for everyone with little nooks to visit in. Lovely! The skies were heavy and there was rain with wind but it did not hamper our comfort or peace at Kentigern. The Tennessee family members and the Maryland family all had a wonderful and relaxing time. We walked in the Chesapeake mist, on her beaches and found driftwood and glass and smooth little pebbles. We hiked around the friendly neighborhood and visited the local interests which were just wonderful. A plus must be mentioned ... Rob and Bob were so kind and helpful and fun. We like Marylanders very much! We chose this lovely piece of America because Scotland Yard is a favorite place of our daughter and husband who are living in Frederick. These two know a good thing.! We are so happy we made the trip! Thank you Peggy for sharing this place.
We love hosting families at Scotland Yards! It warms our heart to hear that we are helping to bring families together . We thank these guest for a lovely, authentic review.
December at the bay
Love visiting this property. Peggy and the property managers were incredibly responsive.
Bay Front Beauty
Just returned from a week at Kentigern WOW. What a property!!! Rented the property with my parents. Such a grand residence that towers above the sparkling Bay. As you approach the property you are in awe of it's presence and it certainly set the tone for the week. Amazing water views, amazing home !!! Every room has a view of the bay which goes on forever. My parents are in their 70's with knee issues so the elevator was a huge asset. Easily whisks you to all of the upper levels and great help after the grocery store run. The decor is fantastic, fireplace wonderful, and the kitchen was amazing ! We cooked the entire week. Well stocked with every cooking utensil, plate, glass, silver ware...you could feed an army ! The deck space is absolutely remarkable and well planned. Enjoyed sitting outside enjoying libations and enjoying the sounds of the waves.....so relaxing. I'm a huge fan of cruising and you literally felt like you were on a cruise ship as you peered out every window. The sunrise every morning was spectacular. The small beach was a welcome spot for reading and getting a little sun which was nice for November. Fantastic experience ! Can't wait to return. A stunning property !
Thank you for this lovely review. At Scotland Yards properties, like Kentigern, we want our guest to be thinking about their next visit even as they are departing.
Lovely place, very comfortable , and would highly recommend it for family vacation.
We were 4 senior couples. And found abundant places for sightseeing and lots of great places to eat . Would highly recommend it. Fred
Great property; just needs some love
Really liked the building and site. Nice sandy beach and great campfire. Our only concern was that the property needs a bit of love to refurnish it back to the quality that it probably was when first built. The outside needs a good power washing to get rid of the spiders and webs along with a coat of paint on all surfaces. The elevator was good, but would be better if the light bulbs were not burnt out so we rode in the dark. The soft furnishings need replacement as they are aged and worn generally. The dish sets would be best if all matched and the pots and pans in better condition. Wifi was good along with the flat screens. The place can be brought up to speed at limited cost and be the best on the beach! I'm sure the Owner will address these issues ASAP as the property is worth the effort. Have a great time at the property.
The house is awesome with a view that can't be beat. When standing on the balcony looking out over the Bay, it is like standing on the bridge of a ship. Four floors with an elevator. The house is very nicely laid out but could use a better cleaning and an upgrade of appliances and outside furniture. The "private" beach for the various rentals was very nice but had a LOT of jellyfish this year.
We love to have returning guests. But, we're not sure what is meant about upgraded appliances since the kitchen appliances are very high end, including a Bosch oven and microwave and a large Italian gas range.
The house is cleaned by professional cleaners between each group of guests and inspected. It's always good to get a deep cleaning of things like baseboards but that can be difficult during high season. Still, we try our best and assure guests that this house is clean. Sometimes the outdoor furniture needs a rinse off - no matter how often we do so with windy beach conditions, but we'll make an effort to concentrate more on the outdoor furniture.
As for the jellyfish, we hardly had any this year. Unfortunately, his week was not lucky. Jellyfish love high salinity, so when it's been hot and dry, they show up in the Bay. Most of this summer, we had sufficient rain to keep them away. Unfortunately, when and where jellyfish will show up is unpredictable. June is almost always safe. July and early August depend on the amount of rain. I route for summer thunderstorms! They are amazing to watch over the Bay and they send the jellyfish packing.
A small beach community - woods plus water. So close to DC and Baltimore (2 hours) yet a world away.
