This open-concept rental property is the annex of a larger summer rental home, and is nicely separated from the main house by a large barn. The interior is a pleasant mix of traditional features, such as the large fireplace and pine floors, but with a distinctly modern feel with a large central space, bright streamlined kitchen and new bath upstairs. The 2 bedrooms upstairs are in the classic Maine style with antique furnishings, airy curtains and family quilts. Guests will enjoy wide views of Pemaquid Harbor from the vantage point of the new deck. The rolling yard and fields around the property further add to the sense of privacy. With an easy walk to a working lobster dock and restaurant with the most beautiful view on the coast of Maine, and only a short drive to Pemaquid Beach, the famous Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, and historic Fort William Henry. This location makes it possible to take advantage of all the Pemaquid area attractions while avoiding any crowds!

My two brothers, sister and I inherited High Point and the Barn House from our parents in 2007. They maintained their homes magnificently. My siblings and I grew up in Connecticut and our parents bought High Point when we were teenagers...hoping for escape time from us, I'm sure! They retired full time to Maine in 1972 and designed and had the Barn House built years later. I live with my family in the mountains of Colorado. My three children and I, along with my brothers, sister and their kids, have spent every summer in Maine exploring the beaches, tidal rocks and pools, hiking islands, kayaking, canoeing rivers and learning to live without all the craziness and pressures of 'the real world.' Maine is how life should be!
Katie Gesten purchased this cottage in 1990
My siblings and I are, understandably, very attached to High Point and the Barn House. Not only because this was our parents home but it has always represented uninterrupted family time. The Barn House is an open, bright, uniquely Maine, comfortable cottage surrounded by lawns, flowers, views and magical lighting. The memories are endless of croquet on the lawn in hysterical laughter, hours on the beaches with my parents and their grandchildren catching crabs, making sand sculptures, after dinner ice cream cones in New Harbor, day trips on the ferry to Monhegan Island to hike all day and build fairy houses in Cathedral Woods, and loud family lobster dinners at Pemaquid or Round Pond lobster docks. The Barn House is surrounded by summertime action of parades, historical events, art shows and galleries, antiques and an old-fashion movie theater. I could go on and on................
The Barn House is located in a part of Maine that has many attractions but never feels touristy! Pemaquid Beach has a long white beach and dunes and it is easy to find a quiet spot to read or nap! The area is physically so breathtakingly beautiful. Exploratory road trips or bike rides take you to surprising beauty around every corner. Walpole Barn hosts wine tasting at tables in their apple orchard and two libraries offer children's hours. The historic digs at Fort William Henry date back to before the French and Indian War and sometimes they offer to have volunteers join in and learn archaeological techniques! The Carpenters Boatshop is fascinating to visit and they also offer classes. There is something for every age and every interest nearby.
My wife and I spent the month of September, 2014 at The Barn House and it exceeded our expectations in every way. The area is quiet (you have to go 20 miles to find a T-Shirt, there are great groceries, restaurants and resources very close by. Lots of short or long day trips in the vicinity...car is a must. The owner Katie is great and so are all the neighbors that we met. Definitely on our "To Do Again" list.
We had a lovely stay at the Barn House. The house is very clean and rustic, and the area is extremely peaceful...you could only hear birds and the waves crashing on the rocks. I could have just stayed on the deck the whole time and been happy. I had never visited that area of Maine despite living in New England my whole life. I think it is by far the most beautiful part of Maine. The Barn house is set on a hill overlooking the harbor, you can literally walk next door and get fresh lobster and steamers at the Co-op...which is great after a long day when you don't feel like driving anywhere or cooking. The house is very cozy with the fireplace. Katie the owner is wonderful and provides a map with suggestions on places to visit and eat. We also found other stuff just by exploring. Monhegan Island is a must to visit. We will be back to the Barn house for sure, it was great. If you are looking for a quiet and laid back place to visit check this out.
Beautiful little house with fantastic view of the harbor! So clean and inviting! Loved our time in Maine
My family had a wonderful trip there the last week of August. Excellent location in coastal Maine. We visited Pemaquid light house park, Pemaquid beach, Maine Coastal Botanical Garden, Maine State Aquarium, a day trip to Monhegan Island, kayaked in the harbor from Fort William Henry with our 5 year old twin boys. We loved the beautiful morning and evening views of Pemaquid harbor from the Barn House. Katie's tips and information map was very helpful! She tries her best to make our stay there with little kids the best comfortable possible. :
We have been vacationing in Maine for many years but this was our first visit to Pemaquid and we loved staying at the Barn House. It was very comfortable and relaxed while providing everything we wanted. The location and views are superb and the cottage airy and bright. We walked down the hill to the lobster coop many evening for dinner and enjoyed many of the local activities - lectures at the library in Bristol, old fashined church fairs and canoeing in Old Bristol. This is the real Maine. Katie and her family are terrific hosts and do everything to make your stay enjoyable. It's a perfect spot for a romantic getaway or family vacation and our pup Ellen was most content. Bravo, Barn House!
Here from 8/18/12 - 8/25/12. Great vacation get away and more. All the comforts of home. One week is just not enough. Doing everything we did every day then to come home to a place where you can call home and rest your head for a week is truly restful, although we needed a vacation when we got home in Pa. from all of the activity. Weather was perfect food outstanding. Katie left us a list of all of the local areas and of the restaurants to visit during our stay. A wonderful person to deal with. One conversation with her and you can not resist going there. We would have loved to spend more time in the Barn House because it is so welcoming but there is just so many things to do locally and neighboring communities. However if you need a day of rest, like we should have done, this is the place. Views from the house are spectacular. I could write a book but then it would not sound real. All I an say is this is one of the top places we have stayed in Maine and we have been here many times. Next time I may try for Katie's main house and invite some family members to stay with us and enjoy what we did. Thank you Katie and Maine. Who could ask for more?
