Cedar Cottage is the perfect place to call home after a day spent discovering all that our beautiful city has to offer.
I am very proud to offer Cedar Cottage to visitors to Victoria. As the proprietor of other cottage accommodations in the past, I have enjoyed meeting people from all over the world, and helping them to make their holidays memorable. Having lived in Victoria for 37 years, I know the city well, and have lots of favourite places to share with my guests.
I respect my guests' privacy, and at the same time am always happy to answer questions. It is important to me that you have a comfortable, interesting and enjoyable visit to Victoria.
Charlene Simon purchased this cottage in 2015
Cedar Cottage is in a perfect location, with everything that Victoria has to offer within minutes. The immediate neighbourhood has groceries, coffee shops, galleries, a recreation centre, parks, gardens, playgrounds, the Royal Jubilee hospital, pharmacies, UPS, Post Offices, specialty stores, banks and restaurants within a few blocks, so it is a very walkable neighbourhood.
The property is surrounded by roses in the front garden, and neighborhood trees and perennials in the back garden. With a south-western exposure, the cottage patio is warm and sunny on nice days. The cottage has a very private feel, although it is in the heart of Victoria.
Our 3-night stay at Charlene's Cedar Cottage was the perfect ending to an incredible two week trip to B.C. We could not have been happier with our choice. The cottage offers the best of both worlds as a zen-like retreat centrally located within the confines of a large urban centre. Charlene has designed her cottage perfectly both in terms of the amenities and practicalities (a special mention to the washer and dryer - what a welcome inclusion when you have been away from home for almost 2 weeks) as well as her very tasteful decor. The cottage was in spotless condition when we arrived. The separate bedroom and the pullout couch for our daughter provided plenty of space and the separate gated entry also provided a great deal of privacy. Charlene herself was the consummate hostess - warm, gracious, and accommodating. She dotes over her guests to ensure that their stay is perfect - she even took the time and trouble to bring out some aloe vera from her house plant to tend to my daughter's sunburn. Charlene is also a wealth of information not just related to attractions and amenities in the Oak Bay area but for all of Victoria, including things you would never find in guidebooks (ie. where to get free fish scraps to feed the seals in Victoria's harbour!). We loved our stay here - we hope to come back to Victoria and we will definitely stay at Cedar Cottage again. It is a beautiful little urban oasis and Charlene can be very proud of this classy and wonderfully-designed accommodation.
Do not hesitate to book this cottage. My husband and I stayed in the cottage a few nights with our two-year-old daughter and it accommodated us perfectly.
The cottage has everything you could need for cooking. It was clean, beautifully decorated, the bathroom and kitchen were great, and it had a mudroom with laundry. The patio to the cottage is also fenced off from the main house which added privacy. Our two year old could toddle around and I didn’t have to worry about her wondering too close to the main house and disturbing them. It is in a great neighborhood and close to a large grocery store.
The owner is a delight and we got our damage deposit back promptly. We will book the cottage again!.
My husband and I stayed here for a week in mid-September. It was the first week of my 3 week retirement vacation & almost the best part of the entire 3 week time! Charlene is awesome. If I ever am lucky enough to live in Victoria again she would definitely be that best friend I would meet for tea and conversation!
The cottage is adorable. It was very peaceful and quiet there. Everything you need to feel at home is included. We made several dinners in the fully equipped kitchen even entertaining some old friends one evening. The cottage is spotless. Very comfortable bed. A big plus is the little utility room with a stacking washer & dryer and pantry shelves for storage
Save-on Foods & a fully-equipped government liquor store are only a block away as are 2 bus lines to downtown. Two blocks in the other direction is Oak Bay Village. Be sure to check out the Red Barn market. They have a great meat counter and their produce is very fresh. One block from the Red Barn is the White Heather Tea Room. Had a wonderful tea time there with old school chums. The Penny Farthing Inn, also on Oak Bay Avenue, is a great place to have dinner. And we counted at least four coffee houses just in a 4 block radius on Oak Bay Avenue!
Not to be missed on any visit to Victoria is the Dutch Bakery & Diner in downtown Victoria on Fort Street just off of Douglas Street. And while you're downtown check out Murchies Tea & Coffee and Rogers Chocolates on Government Street. Oh and you can take a tour of St Ann's Academy(where I went to school!) It is an historic site now! Oh my gosh! I'm that old already.
We will certainly stay at this lovely cottage the next time we are in Victoria.
But we were pleasantly surprised , behind the house in a regular subdivision is a pretty cottage! The cottage is perfect for two people , it does have a pull out bed but I think anymore than two people would be pushing it.
All areas from the laundry room to kitchen all updated and beautifully set up . The bathroom nice shower/ bathtub and the small sitting area outside is very comfortable.
The bedroom is quite small but cozy! All
The comforts of home. My only comment about the cottage is privacy we found it not to be as private with the owner just in the home in front . Charlene is lovely and tries to make your stay comfortable but I think privacy and as guests knowing that someone is always there plays abit negative on the accommodation.
Yes I would stay again, easy to get around, walking distance to shops and coffee etc. But perhaps not being around so much would make this stay more like a holiday.
cedar lodge was just perfect, quiet and peaceful, everything you needed, shower was good,
mentioned the noise from the fridge and the lady is looking into it. she is also
buying a microwave as it didnt have one while we were there. Neighbours were really helpful,
lovely little courtyard, perfect for enjoying a lovely summer evening.
would book again if was visiting Victoria,
My husband and I are traveling with our two teenage daughters across the United States and into Canada. Our stay at the Cedar Cottage marked the middle of our journey and was a perfect respite from the road and camping. The Cottage was impeccably decorated and arranged for the comfort of guests. From the fabulous laundry room to freshen up our camp clothes to the kitchen in which to prepare some home-cooked meals to the living room where our girls found comfortable rest in the pull-out sofa bed and blow up mattress, we used every inch of it. The bed was quite comfortable, and we had ample room in the bathroom for all four of us to navigate morning preparations (especially thanks to the full-length mirror just outside the bathroom: very important when traveling with teenage girls). Charlene had well-prepared the Cottage to meet all of our needs, and we were especially happy to see the recycling and compost bins available (not always a given in the Eastern U.S.). The girls especially loved spending time with the resident cat out on the porch. He added a touch of home to our trip as we were missing our own pets. The grocery was only a couple of blocks away, and my husband and daughter found the neighborhood a great place to run in the morning. Thank you, Charlene for your hospitality even from afar. We will always have pleasant memories of our time in your little Cottage.
Victoria is a friendly, quaint city with an abundance of parks and gardens, historic homes, museums, art galleries, markets, festivals, outdoor recreation, a harbour ferry, horse-drawn carriages, a lot of very good places to eat, and breathtaking views of the ocean, Mt. Baker, and the Olympic Mountains. Truly everyone will find something memorable about their stay in Victoria.
The city is made up of several neighbourhoods. Cedar Cottage is located 5 minutes from downtown and the Inner Harbour.
This neighbourhood features cafes, restaurants, a recreation/fitness centre, parks, gardens, shops and famous nearby attractions.
For gardeners, the nearby Abkhazi Garden and Teahouse, famous for its' rhododendrons, serves tea and light lunches overlooking the gardens which are delightful throughout the spring, summer and fall.
Also close by, Government House, the residence of the Lieutenant Governor, features woodlands, cut flower and perennial gardens, the nursery, a vegetable garden, an iris garden, and rose gardens, among others, that are open to the public. There is a historic costume museum in the restored Carey Mews, and lunch and snacks are served in the Tea Room.
Just a couple of blocks from Government House, Craigdarroch Castle, with self-guided tours, offers four floors of exquisite stained glass windows, intricate woodwork and fabulous Victorian-era furnishings.
Located near the Castle, the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, is home to one of the most comprehensive collections of Japanese art in Canada, historical collections featuring Canadian and international works, and exceptional contemporary art.

For indoor fitness activities, the Oak Bay Recreation Centre a block from Cedar Cottage, features a gym, pool and tennis courts.
At Cedar Cottage, families are welcome. Redfern Park playground and the Oak Bay Recreation centre pool provide welcome activities for children. Nearby Willows Beach, with a playground and a snack bar, is also a favourite family destination. Enjoy some family fun at the famous Beacon Hill Park, with a petting zoo, water park and playgrounds, and end the outing with an ice cream at the local drive-inn. For nature lovers, the Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary is a fun place to take children.
Downtown activities include whale watching, fishing charters, bus tours of the City and also to the Butchart Gardens, riding the Talley Ho horse-drawn wagons or touring the city on a horse-drawn carriage, and enjoying the entertainment in the Inner Harbour. The Royal BC Museum, also home to the BC Archives and the Imax Theatre, is a treasure in downtown Victoria.
The Royal Jubilee Hospital and Cancer Clinic is within walking distance. If you are from out of town, and receiving treatment or visiting a patient at the hospital, Cedar Cottage is the ideal place to stay.
Victoria is host to many markets and festivals throughout the year, featuring local arts, crafts, preserves, and fresh garden produce.
With temperate weather, Victoria is a perfect place to golf, and has several golf courses. For avid tennis players, you will find 3 courts within 10 minutes of Cedar Cottage.
Outdoor activities are popular year-round. Visitors to Victoria enjoy walking, kayaking, scuba diving, paddleboarding, windsurfing, sailing, fishing, hiking, and cycling. There are whale watching tours from Fisherman's Wharf and the Inner Harbour, offering the chance to see Orcas (killer whales), humpback, minke and grey whales, along with harbour seals, Steller and California sea lions, bald eagles, and harbour and Dall’s porpoises.
The pace in Victoria is relaxed, the people are friendly, and visitors are very welcome.
