High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6-10)

Home away from Home on the South Toe River! Everything you need to enjoy the view and relax. Our home is accessible no matter what the weather. County maintained asphalt roads all the way to the driveway. Indoor Jacuzzi in the walk out basement along with a gaming table and bar all done in tasteful log cabin decor. Enjoy a movie on the big screen tv on the comfy sectional couch in the basement or have a game of cards or monopoly on the large game table. Upstairs enjoy the gas fireplace and turn the music up or watch your favorite tv show. Read a book at the outdoor table on upper deck under the umbrella as the birds eat at the feeders down below. Hummingbirds abound in the spring and you can see the trout swimming in the shallow waters in the South Toe River. Enjoy a fire down by the river at the fire pit; gather fallen branches or bring your own wood. In the summer, you can rent innertubes and drop the kids off upstream for them to get out right at your back yard. Trout fishermen are a common sight as well as other families floating downstream. Sleep at night with your windows open and let the sounds of the river lull you off to sleep! Wake up refreshed with a great cup of tea or coffee at the kitchen table which looks right out at the South Toe River.

No Matter what time of the year it is, the view is astoundingly peaceful!

About Robin Fowler

Mike and Robin have two boys, one in college who aspires to be an officer in the U.S. Army. one in high school. Robin likes to read on the deck and Mike likes to fish in the stream below.

Robin Fowler purchased this cabin in 2008

Why Robin Fowler chose High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains

Mike went to college at Western Carolina University and his parents bought a home in the general area many years ago. We spent many years looking for just the right home and it HAD to be on the river. Mike really enjoys fly fishing and Robin just likes the serenity of being close to the water. Both of us actually grew up in South Florida so having a home in the mountains has always been a dream for us.

What makes this cabin unique

When we get there it isn't unusual for Robin to just settle in, read books and relax. We enjoy going to the square to eat and visit our favorite clothing and gift shops. For lunch, there is the Garden Deli where you can eat inside or out and it's right on the square. In the spring, summer and fall, there is a craft fair featuring all kinds of local ware right on the square. There is a quaint little ONE SCREEN old-time theater that some of our guests have gone to see whatever movie is playing and there is even live theater. Mt Mitchell Golf Course is 10 minutes up the road and Carolina Hemlocks is a state park/camp site where you can rent inner tubes and play in the river. There is also a horse ranch up the road called Clear Creek and if they aren't booked up you might be able to squeeze in a trail ride if that's up your alley. Grandfather Mountain is about 45 minutes away and has great view and places to picnic. Crabtree Falls is a campground that allows you to follow the trail down to view a very cool waterfall, just remember you have to hike back up. You can do a lot or nothing at all and still have a wonderful time.

Always check with the Yancy county Chamber of Commerce to see what's coming up!

Best Stay Ever!

A perfect vacation location. The house was exceptionally well stocked and extremely clean. We sat for hours on the deck just watching the river below. Our hosts were very responsive throughout the entire process. Strategically located to many interesting locations you are only an hour away from many places of interests. This was our third year coming to the area and this was by far our most enjoyable stay. We really enjoyed visiting the small towns in the area. Thanks again, guys for a most memorable vacation.

Perfect place to stay !!

  • 5 of 5

Mike & Robin are so nice and helpful . The house is decorated so nicely and had everything that we needed. Wonderful stocked kitchen, plenty of room and our adult children enjoyed the hot tub very much. Lot's of potteries in the area and hiking opportunities.

Crabtree Falls is worth visiting and so is Mount Mitchell. We hope to be back !

Great stay at "Dream on the Stream"

  • 5 of 5

This cabin stay was fantastic, well maintained, and the perfect get-away. The views were great, and even better in person than we imagined from the pics. This 3/3 had all the necessities for a great stay, including hot tub, game table, bar, wifi/internet, land line phone, crystal clear river for fishing and tubing, nearby places for ice cream or shopping, or food, places to go for hiking and sight seeing like waterfalls, etc. the owners are very, very kind and always accessible if questions may arise on anything at all. We would definitely consider staying here on any future mountain trips, as the location is ideal, nicely sized well kept clean cabin with plenty of things to do, and fairly close to Asheville too for any further explorations out that way. Top notch getaway.

Honey Cottage

This is a wonderful place to stay. The home is warm and cozy, offering everything one needs. Robin was a great hostesses calling several times to make sure that everything was working, even asking is the grass needed to be cut and the bushes needed to be trimmed. Robin offered wonderful advice regarding places to eat, where we could find fly fishing equipment in Burnsville, and other places to fish on the river other than at her home. We ate breakfast every morning on the deck listening to the river and enjoying the great view. In fact, we ate all out meals on the deck. We were treated every morning and evening with a air show by two ducks flying over the river. One could not ask for a better place to spend time away from home. In fact, we are already thinking about a fall trip to Robin and Mike's home away from home. Ron and Libby

Perfect for friends and family!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed the Fowlers' cabin! The cabin has a beautiful view (and access) to the river, upstairs and downstairs porches, a jacuzzi tub, and rooms on both floors which is great for privacy.

My wife, 1 year old son, and I stayed in the rooms upstairs, so we could leave the baby sleeping and then head downstairs to the TV/jacuzzi/river access, and our friends stayed in the room downstairs. Our baby monitor had no trouble keeping signal inside or outside.

WiFi internet and landline were helpful, as there is poor cell service in the area.

Robin was wonderful and called me before our trip and gave us suggestions of some things to do. We went and ate at the Mountain View restaurant (amazing place for dinner) in Little Switzerland, as well as the cafe in the general store over there (great BBQ and trout!).

We also went hiking at the falls right off the blue ridge parkway, and it was great! Relaxing at the cabin after a long day exploring was definitely relaxing. We are already talking about inviting more friends to go back!

Ski trip to Wolf Ridge

  • 5 of 5

We had an excellent stay at Dream by the Stream. The cabin was easily accessible and well equipped. It will easily fit 8-10 adults. There is a beautiful view of the South Toe River from the back of the cabin. We only had about an 1/2 hour - 45 minute drive to Wolf Ridge to ski. The owners are nice and accommodating. We will return if our group stays the same size in the future. I would recommend this cabin. I would love to stay sometime in the future and fish for trout.

Lots of home owned pottery galleries, churches nearby if you care to go on Sunday, day trip to Grandfather Mountain, Tweetsie Railroad for little ones, waterfalls close by to hike to and a horse ranch which sometimes (when not full) will allow you to take trail rides with a guide. I found a link for bike routes, but you would need to bring your own bikes...
