Great private 3 bedroom/2 bathroom home in beautiful Sandy Bay Village

This spacious home (1800 square feet) has a modern kitchen fully equipped for 6 persons. You will enjoy the three terraces with hammocks as weill as the rooftop, all offering an unspoilt incredible 180 degree ocean view. Great snorkeling and diving at the protected reef right in front of Casa Argenta. Offered for weekly rent by the owner at very affordable prices. Just 2 miles away from the tourist hub of West End.

Large sliding doors opening the living room completely to the ocean; no AC, but ceiling fans throughout; most furniture in precious hardwood; outside shower on the deck. The modern architecture is very special - sure you'll love Casa Argenta, built 2012 all in wood by famous Swiss architect Stephan Muller!

Our local house manager and official tour guide Tanja (English, Spanish and German spoken) is living very close to our home and will do everything possible to make your stay comfortable.

Casa Argenta is located in the nice village of Sandy Bay, and we have nice local neighbors. For prevention, the house has a newly built-in modern alarm system with direct connection to Bulldog Security International Company.

Next large super market is 8 miles away. There are plenty of taxis on the main road (400 meters away), collective taxis cost 2-3 $ per person. Our local house manager Tanja is also offering pick-up services from the airport to the house (25$ for up to 6 people).

Please note:

Our home, built in 2012, is a real architectonic adventure. There are still some detail problems, but we continue to work on final solutions. Until everything will be done, we reduced the rate by more than 30% of the

usual 180 $ per night. And for this price you’ll enjoy a unique house design at an absolutely great location on the beach.

About Hans-Jurg Pfaff

I am a Swiss cultural anthropologist and independent documentary film maker with a film production in Switzerland.

Our manager on site is Tanja Linde, living on Roatan since 15 years. She is also a tour manager and speaks English, Spanish and German. She will do do everything to make your stay comfortable!

Why Hans-Jurg Pfaff chose Bay Islands Honduras

I love snorkeling and diving, and Roatan is famous for it's protected reef and for being one of the best SCUBA dive sites in the world. It was 1999 when I came to the island for the first time.

I bought this unique, plain beach front property in 2001and later on, in 2012, built this home together with my friend and architect Stephan Muller and the support of a great crew of local workers.

great spot with great people

We were at this lovely house for 4 weeks and had a very delightful time. This was our first time in Roatan and can not wait to go back. the house was very comfortable and served the 2 couples well but a 3rd couple may have issues with bathrooms and the security alarm. The house was also stocked well with dishes ,cutlery, pots and pans. As we talked to Tanja and told her about the lack of comfortable places to sit she set about get some good chairs to solve the problem. All people who go there need to make friends with Bubba, the local dog who will be a good friend who likes to fish and accompany you on walks along the beach. Tanja was a big help and a lady only wanted to please. She had many go ideas about places to go as well as some good restaurants within a short walk. We found that taxis were easy to get but you need to negotiate the price always before you get in. Eldon's is a grocery at Coxen Hole that surprised us on how well stocked it was with a large selection of just about everything. To top off this wonderful time away we got notification that our security deposit was being returned, even before we arrived home. Bob

Such an experience

This home was perfect for our group of 5 adults. The neighborhood was mostly quiet during the day with very little noise, and only the sound of waves made each night a peaceful one. Casa Argenta itself was just perfect! It was so unique, and had quirks that make this house even more special. Each bedroom was plenty big, and on opposite corners of the house from each other. The front bedroom with the ocean view was my room, it is one of the more unique aspects of the house, because it has 2 doors-one to the front porch, and one to the side porch. The side porch is only accessible from inside the house, but the front porch is right outside the other bedroom door. I think this is important to know because I felt a little nervous at first, BUT after orienting myself with the locks, I felt VERY safe! Not only was there a deadbolt but also a steel rod that secures this solid wooden fortress door to the floor, I slept easy and felt secure.

There is sea grass between your own beach and the reef, but the 5 of us walked through it everyday with our flippers. Other reviews stated that it was unusable because of sea urchins, I did not see-or feel- any sea urchins in the grass. The snorkeling directly in front of the house was phenomenal, the reef was vibrant and so so so full of life! It was a nice feeling to stop whatever you were doing, just stand up and say, ok im going to go snorkel now, and walk from your front steps and into the ocean.

The kitchen was well equipped, and came with jugs of water. We stopped at Eldons the grocery store with Jose(setup by Tanja) directly from the airport and stocked up, we made another trip a few days later.

Plenty of toiletries/towels/linens.

The best food we had on the island was at Beach Grill-at Blue Bahia(<5minute walk). Other restaurants were in walking distance ranging in price/atmosphere, Beach Grill gets my vote though.

We walked to west end, but taking the bus that you catch at the main road was super cheap, and way faster than walking. The bus more resembles a taxi van-but is way cheaper

We were so thankful to have Tanja (house manager)as a resource during our week stay. Tanja's welcome made us feel very at home in Sandy Bay. We really felt like we were her number one priority, and she just wanted us to enjoy our time on the island. She was successful!

Beautiful architecture and well priced

For the price, you will find a well designed rustic modern beach home that's ocean front. It does come with several inconveniences like no air conditioning, no screens, lots of sand fleas on the beach making it virtually unusable, sea urchins hiding in the turtle grass in the water making it impossible to swim or snorkel in. A few changes would make a great difference:

- kayaks to enable you to snorkel/swim beyond the turtle grass

(not convenient to walk several houses down to rent a kayak for an hour)

- screens to allow the windows/doors open and let the breeze in without the bugs

(swatting over 15 mosquito one evening in our bedroom having left the door open to cool the space. Not fun!)

- AC to cool the space when windows/doors can not be left open in the evening for safety

- In the end it was really a 2 bedroom, not the 3 bedroom we were so hoping for. The 3rd bedroom is strangely situated requiring you to lock yourself in from the rest of the house for safety and locked out from our young kids. It works as a 3 bedroom only if staying with other adults or teens.

- Abundant, new, clean feeling towels

Tanya was absolutely wonderful! She addressed any issues that came up promptly, was very helpful, very welcoming, a pleasure and real asset to the property.

I gave it a 3 star instead of a 2 star because of the price. You can't find anything for that price that's aesthetically pleasing, and ocean front.

Stunning Beach House

My husband, myself, and our three children, girls ages 8, 6, and almost 2, spent a glorious week long stay at Casa Argenta. Owner Hans and property manager Tanjah were great to work with from the very beginning. The house is steps away from the ocean, and we spent countless hours playing in the sand, searching for ocean creatures, and snorkeling using the gear at the house. This house has a small neighborhood vibe, with small markets close by for grocery essentials, friendly neighbors (say hey to Frank for us!), and a couple restaurants just a walk down the beach. Our favorite restaurant was Beach Grill at the Blue Bahia Resort. Friendly staff, excellent food and drinks. If we wanted to leave the house for the day, we'd walk up to the main road and catch a taxi. Negotiated to a dollar per person for each trip. Not too shabby! We went to Coxen Hole to the big grocery stores (we recommend Plaza Mar) and to West End to play. Rode horses on the beach with Shirkie Bodden, my oldest daughter's dream come true!

One of my favorite things about Casa Argenta was the rooftop deck. Talk about beautiful! And the stars at night, wow! We also loved the three hammocks on the porch. Many naps were taken in those. Also, there isn't a TV, so watching the ocean was our entertainment. The kitchen was set up with everything I needed to cook for my family, which is something I enjoy. And there were plenty of linen and towels in the house. Traveling with our children, the only concern I had with the house was that the front bedroom is separated from the interior living area. You kind of have to lock yourself into the bedroom at night, as one door leads to the front porch and stairs, and the other door leads to an open aired patio. Of course it is a house on stilts, so burglars would almost have to be ninjas to get up there, but the momma bear in me just couldn't leave the door unlocked. We figured out a sleeping arrangement that worked. And my only recommendation for future renters is that you might want to bring a sleep mask. The sun rises pretty early, and there are skylights to make sure you are up and at 'em. I was glad I brought my sleep mask. This is a great house in a great neighborhood on a great island. True to discription

It was a great location. Just a quick walk to a main road, where we easily caught a bus or taxi(1 or 2 dollars each)for the 5 minute drive to West End.

The Manager, Tanjah (Tanya) was great. She checked on us a few times and we could call her anytime with questions. The water heater went out and it was fixed within hours. We were there for a week. The house was clean and well kept. After both storms, workers showed up the next day and cleaned the beach. The house has a great view. Even the day it was rainy and windy, we were able to hang out and enjoy the view, as the whole front is glass. Tanjah arranged for a driver to pick us up at the airport, we stopped at a large grocery store on the way and bought supplies for the week. The kitchen had all the necessities and some condiments in the fridge. We had a few dinners in West End.. We enjoyed walking on the beach, sitting in the hammocks and reading. The hammocks are sheltered so you can enjoy them when the weather is not perfect. We snorkeled off one of the nearby docks but scuba dove out of West End. The wi-fi had good reception and the house cell phone came in very handy. It was just my wife and I so we did not use the extra bedrooms. If I could ask for one more amenity, it would be a reading lamp with an extension cord. The electrical outlets are American 3 prong design, but have European placement.

Perfect location!

This house is in a perfect location. It was really close to the west end and west bay areas, but really beautiful and serene if you just want to stay at the house! Right on the beach and pretty quiet. The reef is right off the shore a short distance and is truly beautiful, with really amazing, huge starfish...there is a good bit of boat traffic as the channel is just to the left, but just be smart! The house is very modern looking from the outside. We experienced high winds most of the time we were there, allowing plenty of breeze in the house and you can adjust windows and doors for the perfect temp. Probably the best thing was the house manager...Tanja- AMAZING! She was so attentive and helpful ANYTIME!! The house comes with a local phone (which was huge, too) and she is always available to help and give you good advice- so great to have a local's help! She even called to check on us when she knew we were headed into a shady part of the island...just to make sure we got back ok! Now, the reasons we rate this house only three stars...although the house is only 4 years old, EVERYTHING is wooden, in a very salty and humid environment, so the sinks and kitchen counter and some other things really show rotting and cracking...seemed a little unsanitary in supposedly "clean areas." The big windows would be awesome, except there are people and kids walking the beach or playing really close to the house, making for not much privacy. We did make suggestions for the owner to add a microwave, iron and ironing board, maybe fix very large leaks when it rains, also there were very few towels for bath and kitchen- without a washer or dryer...we used the same ones all week :( most of these are easy fixes and I do hope they can be resolved...it was just the little things that really made for some big inconveniences. Overall, if they added some little things, we would stay here again.

Sandy Bay is a nice island village with mostly black, English speaking people. Great scuba diving and snorkeling at the protected Marine Reserve reef. To Octopus Dive School (in Blue Bahia Resort) it's just a 400 meters walk along the beach. Swimming or diving with dolphins 600 meters away @ Anthony's Key Resort. Other activities: There are also possibilities to rent paddle boards or Kayaks (Octopus Dive School), sailing trips or motor boat trips for fishing or for visiting other islands. Also: hill climbing, canopying, trips by bicycle or motorbike and parachute sailing. Water taxis to the beaches of West Bay. Visit of the Iguana Farm and the fancy Little French Key 44 are very recommended!
