Prouts Neck, Steps to the Beach

Bedrooms 5
Property type house
Minimum Stay 5 - 7 nights

About the property

House, 5 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

Our wonderful summer cottage has been in the family for 135 years. We are on a pretty lane which dead ends at the beach. The beach at Prouts Neck is one of the most private and beautiful in the world. Our home is very comfortable for parents and children or grandparents and family due to having 5 bedrooms, 4 are upstairs, as are two bathrooms, and one bedroom with en suite bath is downstairs. All are renovated. Modern but old fashioned style kitchen. Best of both worlds!! Laundry machines are new.

Our floors are painted an attractive blue and we have new windows & screens. We don't have or need A/C. This is Maine, by the water!! There are several TVs. We have Wi-Fi. Tons of new and old books in the Dining room/library.

We're a 2 hour drive from Boston. There's an airport in Portland. We're around 15 minutes to Portland and the fabulous Exchange Street restaurants and shops. I can't tell you how wonderful it is to stay at 'Prouts'. We often go to Freeport for shopping at L.L. Bean and all the other great shops, then come home and hit the beach to regain our strength. The hustle and bustle of Old Orchard Beach, and the summerstock theatre in Ogunquit are wonderful fun. We also love going to Kennebunkport, to gallery hop.

We will NOT contact you to see if you want to re-rent. Please make early arrangements, (we love return visitors), to 'protect' 'your' week(s). We often fill up for the next year; soon after labor day. You've been warned!

About The Owner

We had fun at this nearby Kennebunkport Gallery and were back at the beach after lunch. Our sons are the family's 5th generation in this sweet summer home.

The Owner purchased this house in 1880

Why The Owner chose Southern Coast of Maine

This great summer cottage has been in our family for close to 135 years and has been lovingly maintained and modernized. We have painted wood floors. Everything you need to be modern, to be comfortable..IS modern. We will NOT contact you to RE-RENT. PLEASE...we want you to be happy...remember to book as SOON as possible for the next year to try to make sure nobody else 'takes it'. This HAS been a problem!!! Protect your week(s).

What makes this house unique

We have a wonderful fireplace and relish beach walks to collect driftwood kindling. We have an outdoor shower (with hot water) to rinse the salt from bathing suits when you're not yet ready to call it a day. When we renovated the third bathroom, we couldn't part with the claw footed tub. It's out on the patio and the shower nozzle reaches it!!! We have a garage but it's not for cars. Go look. Washer and dryer are new and conveniently, in the kitchen.

Favorite Summer Memories!

  • 5 of 5

This was our third year staying at this Prouts Neck home. It has become a highlight of our summer and a favorite family tradition. The house is beautiful, comfortable and well-situated close to the beach. You can tell that the owners take great pride in the home and that they enjoy sharing this gem with guests. The house is immaculate upon arrival with extra touches such as provided soap and toilet paper. Even beach chairs and beach towels are available for use! The beds are extremely comfortable and the house easily sleeps our family of 10. While we were there this year, it was extremely hot. However, it is comfortable to sleep at night with the windows open and the ample provided fans. The kitchen is very neat, practical and modern. I love the convenience of the washer and dryer right in the kitchen. The bathrooms are modern and clean with great showers. Nothing can top the amazing beach (only a 5 minute walk from the house!) and the cliff walk. The beach is calm, quiet and peaceful. A true get-away! Yet, many attractions are close by, if you want to venture out by car to restaurants, shops and activities. We already look forward to returning next summer!

Perfect location for a weekend in Portland!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second year staying at this beautiful Prouts Neck home, and we're already looking forward to next fall when we can come back! Comfortably slept our large group, and we were pleasantly surprised by how warm we were in the house given it was so late in the season. Easily accessible from the highway, and only a 10 minute drive to downtown Portland! Everything you could possibly need if you're looking for a relaxing weekend in southern Maine; comfortable beds, warm showers, and well-equipped kitchen for family-style meals.

The biggest disappointment was having to pack up and leave on Sunday morning. Thanks for letting us stay with you!!!

Very Relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this house for the first time this year, and we loved it. My husband said the only negative was that we were not staying longer than a week! Homey and relaxing cottage, all the comforts you need, great showers, and comfy beds. We really de-compressed. The owners are incredibly well organized and have everything covered. Thanks so much for letting us stay!

Beach Momma

The house was exactly what we were looking for. The kids loved all the history that was evident through all the books, photos and artwork -- a real compilation over time. A great family vacation!

Owner's Response: I'm so delighted that our house was all you had hoped it would be. By next summer, we are planning to have a brand new fridge which can make ice and chilled water. We are repainting the floors in Spring of 2014 and making other little improvements, as always. Please come back again.

Charming Prouts Neck House

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at this charming home in Prouts Neck. It is super close to the beach so we could walk down day and evening. Evenings were beautiful there as the tide goes way out and we could walk the beach and search for Sea glass. The cottage itself is so charming and had everything we needed. The bathrooms are newly updated and the washer and dryer in the house is so helpful! The house is much larger than it appears by photos which was a nice surprise. There is plenty of room for family members to visit. My children loved the room with the pool table, and were able to learn to play for the first time. The neighbors were lovely, and so helpful with advice for getting around town. I was so thankful to get back to this area where I had vacationed as a child. Thank you again for sharing your home with us. We truly appreciated it!!

Winslow Homer's Home/Studio is on the lovely hike around Prouts hour to do the whole loop from our house. We're 10 miles from Portland and about an hour's drive to Freeport and all the shopping (L.L. Bean, etc.) Get a Portland book, too much to describe.
