This is a charming old house. We have restored, beautified and improved many aspects of the house including AC, heating, bathrooms, etc. however it is almost 100 years old. Details like old wood, sometimes squeaky floors, old windows, vintage doors and knobs, etc, make this listing unique and one of a kind. Please be aware that it is a historic home not a contemporary one. The train as it passes by, is heard in most of Historic Downtown Melbourne. Although none of our guests have mentioned this to be an issue, we do want you to know the train is heard from the house.
My Husband Federico and I lived in Miami for almost 20 years before moving to Melbourne Beach in 2014 to explore new opportunities. We both love all things related to the ocean and flying. We love scuba diving, boating, kayaking, and planes. We are passionate about our projects and are really looking forward to hosting you in our little corner of paradise.
Valerie B. purchased this house in 2014
Barnacle House is the most comfortable and convenient place to stay in Melbourne Florida. This was our second stay there and we just loved the cottage feel of the house. There is everything you could possibly need in the house and great restaurants and shopping close by! We would definitely stay there again!
The house was cozy and comfortable! Everything you could ask for in a rental home...definitely plan on going back!!
A block away from as much food and entertainment you need and a 5 minute drive from the Ocean!
Thank you to Valerie and her husband for being so on top of everything. They truly have thought of everything. The house was so comfortable, and well maintained right down to the newer, upgraded appliances. Perfect for families. Even the complimentary soap and shampoo was top notch, and I don't typically use them, but had forgotten mine. The location was as advertised...literally a block from Melbourne's historical district. Our vacation was a success from day one! Thanks again!!
We had a lovely time in this charming home. It was comfortable, clean and worked perfectly for us. The property is steps from the downtown area, close to shops and restaurants and a 10 minute drive from the beach. Our hosts thought of everything to make our stay enjoyable...Well done!
My two month stay at the house was all I could have wanted. The 1900's circa house had modern updates to the kitchen and two bathrooms. The old world charm was in the original floors, the huge windows and large screened porch and overall décor of the house. All the amenities listed were available and they were brand new in most cases.
I especially enjoyed being able to walk to all parts of the downtown area and partake of the many restaurants and shops. On Saturday, I availed myself of the public market for fresh produce. The post office is just up the street which was a nice convenience as well.
The downtown area also has many events for which family members joined me to partake in: The Friday night street party with live music, food and arts and crafts. The St. Partick's Day Parade and celebration. This is a huge event for Melbourne. There is also a wine tasting party but I will miss that one. There is always something going on for the weekends. I would enjoy live music from the porch with a glass of wine on Saturday night.
The beach is just a short hop over the causeway and is beautiful. There is much more to do and see in Indialantic, Melbourne and Melbourne Beach or both north and south on A1A.
As with any downtown location, there is always something going on so noise is possible. However, the city does keep the decibel levels down late at night. It only took me a couple of days to get used to the sounds, and then I did not hear them anymore.
Valerie and Fedrico are wonderful hosts that kept me informed of activities, rocket launches and some of the best places to eat. They were available for any questions and frequently checked with me to see if all was well. I highly recommend this as a place to stay in Melbourne.
