Kapaa Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-5)

In the enchanting gardens of Honua Lani, you are invited to relax and absorb the pristine qualities of tropical living! For your comfort, we offer a very private and cozy guest house on the valley ridge of our garden estate. It is perfect for nature lovers!

This cottage boasts magnificent ocean and garden views from the decks, which span three sides of the house. You can watch the sun rising out of the ocean right from you dining table! This is a romantic, honeymoon hideaway!

We also have a second rental view listing VRBO #338806 for our redwood Passionfruit Home Condo. A little more affordable this lovely one bedroom sleeps four and also has a private garden and ocean view.

This home offers 650 square feet of living space, and is beautifully furnished with tropical and Hawaiian decor. The kitchen offers a full-size refrigerator, a four burner stove, oven, microwave, dishes, pots and pans, a blender, coffee maker, and purified water, among other amenities.

The living area has a private phone line, cable TV, a VCR/DVD player, CD stereo, high-speed wireless internet access, and a Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar CD collection. There is a roomy bathroom with a full-size tub, and a dining area.

There is a large bedroom with a king-size bed and one, very large, loft bedroom with a queen-size bed. The home comfortably sleeps four people, and can even accommodate two more on the living room futon couch (families only). The home is very cool and comfortable with ceiling fans and portable air conditioning, along with refreshing ocean breezes!

The guest house overlooks a tropical garden full of fruit trees, avocado trees, and flowers scenting the air and soothing the senses. Many of our guests talk about the many birds they see and hear singing in the morning!

There is a private drive entrance, and a private entrance to the cottage. Additional amenities include a laundry facility and a gas barbecue. A sauna house (dry or steam) is located by the main house.

When you arrive, we will provide you with tropical flowers, and a welcome basket of fresh fruit from our organic gardens, and Hawaiian goodies!

We are in an agriculture area, so you can count on peaceful and quiet relaxation. We are centrally located on Kauai, so you will minimize travel time on your day trips across the island. Also, we are conveniently located behind the Kapaa by-pass, so you avoid the late-afternoon traffic. We are minutes from all the beaches along Kapaa, as well as great restaurants, shopping, luaus, and many great spots.

We offer our guests a tour of our permaculture estate - showing them all the interesting fruit trees and vegetation we grow, and how we go about growing a lot of our own food year round.

We supply our guests with an in-house guidance map and booklet to all the very best places to visit, things to do, and restaurants on Kauai. And we usually sit down with our guests for personal guidance and tips. The unit is also stocked with reading materials on Kauai, including hikes around the island.

Often our guests take a sauna and get a fabulous Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage from Jai! For anyone interested, one of our neighbors offers yoga classes three times a week.

We provide all kinds of beach gear like snorkeling equipment, boogie boards, beach towels, beach chairs and umbrella, etc. If you want to swim with turtles, we will direct you to the best spots!

Our guests always rave about their stay, and thank us endlessly for helping them make their vacation so wonderful and perfect. We hope to have the opportunity to help you on your ideal vacation, as well!

HOME CONDO UNIT: We also host a second rental very comparable to our Guest Cottage. The Passionfruit Suite is our gorgeous redwood and cedar one-bedroom apartment — located on the first story of the owner’s home. This beautifully furnished 600 sq. ft. suite is surrounded by tropical flora and offers a private and peaceful setting with a large deck and fabulous ocean view — a perfect honeymoon getaway.

It is fully equipped with everything you need to enjoy your stay. Please see our main website for more details.

About The Owner

Jai Roberts, Honua Lani Hostess

I have lived and sustainably gardened this property for 30 years. It is a beautiful private garden estate. Our Guests enjoy Lomi Lomi massage in the newly built Massage Hale in the middle of the gardens and love the photo ops among the flowers, vegetable gardens, nature trails, and coconut lined ponds.

I love to see how rested and content our guests look after a few days in our quiet natural pristine setting.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 1982

Why The Owner chose Kapaa

I love the east side of Kauai. It is equal distant from either end of the road and therefore my Guests spend less time in the car and more time enjoying the places and events they are going too. Also my Cottage and Gardens have the best weather on the Island. We enjoy night rains not day rains like storybook Camalot. In the winter we remain cool and dry and in the summer we sit in the trades and enjoy the breeze.

The Ocean and its mile long beach Kealia is just down the hill and in town 5 minutes from the house are shops and great dining with lots of weekend festivals and markets.

What makes this cottage unique

Daily fresh greens and hawaiian fruits from our beautiful gardens, bike rentals, island orientation with guide book, private yoga classes,

on-site spa treatments, including: Swedish massage and lomi lomi massage (Hawaiian style) by Jai, our resident LMT. We offer couples massage as well in our beautiful Massage Hale in the center of the gardens.Free beach gear (boogie boards, snorkel gear, beach mats, towels, cooler, chairs and umbrella) for your daily use.

Relaxing, private getaway.

This was our first time not staying on the beach in Kapaa, and being able to use the Kapaa bypass to avoid the heavy traffic in town, whether we were driving north or south, was a relief. This is also the first time my husband and I have stayed somewhere where we didn't need to use the curtains because it was so private, being surrounded by treetops. (but still sunny on the deck). We loved the sweet call of the shama thrush, and walking down to the gardens and ponds (mosquito repellent strongly advised!) At first the separate cottage was not available for the whole 9 nights, so we had booked the condo downstairs in the main house for the last half of our trip. When the cottage then opened up shortly before our trip, Jai was very available and persistent in dealing with vrbo to quickly make the changes in our booking arrangements and fees. She was also available for questions during our stay but let us enjoy our busy days without interfering, just checking in after our arrival and before our departure. The cottage was as described and was quaint but clean and nicely decorated, with well-equipped kitchen, and we really enjoyed the many louvered windows plus doorwall, which allowed for very good airflow. There was a portable air conditioner stored in the closet, but we didn't need it at all. There was a convention of roosters somewhere nearby around 5 am, so I did use earplugs, though my husband didn't find them necessary. My husband did find backing out of the driveway on a slope a bit of a challenge until he got the hang of it. If you can't handle the presence of tiny ghost ants you should stay in a resort where they spray insecticides all over everything so that you never see a bug inside or out. But that's not Hawaii! All in all, a very pleasant, relaxing stay. Many thanks to Jai for providing this lovely retreat for visitors.

Owner's Response: Aloha Laura and George, Thank you for your review it was great you got to stay your whole vacation in the cottage. I usually let me guests know that backing down the drive is easier then driving down and backing out because it is so easy to see down the slope. It is not really a very steep drive if you are walking down but backing up any kind of slope can offer challenges for some. Living in the Hawaiian jungle, as I do, can have challenges bug wise but I get on top of anything that is occurring as quickly as possible. I am right on property to fix anything that can go wrong and ask my guests to contact me if there are any issues. My wish is that my guests can enjoy a bug free vacation without having to breath insecticides and poisons. Therefore, I need to deal with anything that arises in the most sustainable way possible and jungle house living is not for anyone who does not enjoy nature. If I had known you had a few ghost ants I would have put out some boric acid and sugar traps that gets rid of them quickly and without poison. Ants always seem to disappear when our guests do. Mahalo and I hope you can return to the gardens soon for another enjoyable vacation.

Lush oasis in the trees!

  • 5 of 5

Loved staying in the cottage this week! Only regret was not staying longer and getting a lomi lomi massage. The cottage is very cute with a beautiful view of Jai's gardens and the ocean out in the distance. Very clean and well-appointed and with a comfortable King sized bed which we enjoyed. Kapa'a town is only a ten minute drive - full of good eats and whatever else you might need. Jai recommended Tiki Tacos one night and we are still talking bout those delicious tacos.

This would be a very comfortable place to spend a week. Much more personal than a hotel and tucked away in the treetops. Four people could easily stay but two would need to bunk up in the loft and climb a little ladder to do so- which might be a challenge for some. We enjoyed sharing our place with those lil geckos instead.

Owner's Response: Katherine, it is great that you enjoyed your stay above the bamboo forest and the garden. Yes, I love those Tiki Toco's as well. Its great they are only a few minutes away into Kapaa town. Thank you so much for the review and I agree with you. If two couples want to share the cottage, one couple needs to be ok with the slanted access ladder to the loft. Mahalo and I hope you can return soon for a longer stay.

Cute & Cozy Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, along with his brother and wife, spent one week here at the end of February. Such a cute cottage with a nice big deck and beautiful lush surroundings. Not the best ocean view by any means but you can see it. The kitchen is extremely well stocked and the BBQ worked great. King bed in the master bedroom was very comfortable, and although the loft bedroom is not really ideal for adults, the couple we were with thought the bed was comfy and had no issues with using the sturdy ladder. Would work great for kids or younger couples who don't usually have to get up during the night to use the washroom. Enjoyed spending a week where we were more secluded and away from the busier condo complexes. No road or people noise, but definitely a few roosters around to keep things from getting too quiet! Thanks Jai for sharing your snorkel equipment and beach chairs. Enjoyed walking through your gardens and seeing all the different fruit trees. Got a great picture of your cotton tree. First time I'd ever seen one.

Beautiful and private

We enjoyed our stay here. The property is beautiful and the cottage is very private. Jai was very helpful and gave us some good advice about staying safe on the local beaches. We appreciated having the cooler, beach towels, and chairs.

The perfect little getaway home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 10 days on our first trip to Kauai and we had an amazing time! The location is perfect, as it is removed from all the busy-ness of Kapa'a (but only a few minutes away) and surrounded by beautiful gardens and the sounds of Kauai. I was happy to have the roosters waking me up every day! You can see the ocean in the distance. Sunset through the trees was beautiful every morning. Jai provided everything we needed, including towels, beach gear, kitchen items... this was just an amazing place. Thank you for making our stay so easy!

Very private, quaint bungalow

  • 3 of 5

This was our fifth trip to Kauai, and it was our first staying away from the beach--about ten minute drive. Our observations about this vrbo:

1) location was very private and quiet, 2) king size bed was very comfortable, esp for aging backs, 3)mildew smell, esp under counters and in drawers in kitchen,4) linens were very clean, fluffy, and nice (esp. the towels),5) kitchen did not have a regular stove (just a double hot plate) nor a regular oven (just a small convection oven) and a small microwave, 6) new blue ray DVD player and nice flat screen,7) gardens seemed to be not very well tended,8) shower had good water pressure and plenty of hot water!!!!9) nice size refrigerator, 10)nice deck, 11) furniture and floors were pretty worn - would not recommend anybody sleep on the futon ,12) Jai was very receptive to any needs, ie batteries for the remotes, 13) we were allowed to use the house clothes dryer--there is a nice washing machine at the bungalow and line dry, 14)no heating or cooling - blankets would have been nice as it was quite cool at night, and 15) great coffee maker and coffee!!!

Owner's Response: It was good meeting you and hosting you at the cottage. I am constantly upgrading one thing or another to keep the cottage in good condition, this month it is a new cook top and curtains. The microwave and convection oven are new. The convection oven is also large enough to cook a whole chicken or a pizza. Both the chairs in the living room were purchased within the last six months as were all the cushions. The futon is solid wood frame and the mattress less than two years old. People sleep on it all the time no complaints. No one has ever complained about mildew smell before ever! The cottage has wonderful airflow! There is also a good size new gas grill on the deck and an extra canister of gas many of my guest use it to cook fresh fish, steaks and chicken. I have five acres of gardens and someone almost full time trimming trees, cleaning the ponds, mowing the grass and cleaning the plants. It is a very large garden by Hawaiian standards so we have to start at one end and work to the other cleaning every plant so not everything is always trimmed. It is always nicely mowed and well cared for but not totally manicured, we are a working farm so our orchards and garden cart offerings take priorty. Most of my guests appreciate the privacy and natural beauty of the setting. The closet in the bedroom has many extra blankets at least four on the upper shelf clearly visible. There is also an air conditioner in the bedroom closet but it is the middle of winter so it is put away. However, it can be set up at a moments notice if needed. Thanks for your long list of items and there condition. The cottage is not brand new, a bit rustic but kept well maintained and in good working order.
