About the property

3 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom Cottage With Lakefront Located On 5 Acres Of Woodland

(Note - Saturday to Saturday check-in(4pm)/check-out(10am)

Bedroom 1 : 1 queen bed

Bedroom 2 - 1 queen bed, 1 bunk bed

Loft bunk room - Sleeps 6

Large living room with fireplace and open air ceiling to loft area

Dining room has large table with seating for 8 - 10

Kitchen area has stove, microwave, fridge/freezer with icemaker and water, and dishwasher.

We have tried to keep our cottage a place for our family to concentrate on the outdoors and each other, not technology... meaning there is no cable, or wifi available. There is a TV in the loft bedroom that has a DVD player and outdoor antenna attached, but there are limited channels.

We have a ton of books and games available in the living room bookshelfs.

For outdoor eating and relaxing there is a large deck with 2 tables, umbrellas, and chairs on the main level, and if you want a little more secluded shady area for sitting or reading etc. you can move down to a beautiful cement patio below.

The basement of the cottage is closed off, and not included in the rental.

A short walk down the hill leads you to the fire pit, tetherball, horse shoes, and waterfront/dock area. If you bring a volleyball/badminton net, there is even a nice area to set that up by the dock area.

Why Phil DeVries chose Michigan

My wife and I purchased this land in 2006 and built the cottage in 2007. We chose the location and designed the cottage with family in mind. We were looking for something that would combine outdoors and lakefront living in one destination and we knew immediately that this was the place! Fishing, boating, swimming on the beautiful 5000 acre Hamlin Lake right out front, and thousands of acres of the Manistee National Forest right out back...

What makes this chalet unique

Our cottage is a natural setting, no manicured lawns or underground sprinkling. We think the deer, squirrels, pileated woodpeckers, hummingbirds, and chipmunks like it best this way.

Map

Car: necessary

Our Cottage is located on 5 acres of woods that boarders Rupert's Bayou on Upper Hamlin Lake to the West, and Manistee National Forest to the North. It has been a wonderful relaxing family get away and reunion spot for us. It can sleep anywhere from 8 to 12 persons. Bedroom 1 (Queen), Bedroom 2 (Queen + 1 bunk bed), Loft bunk room (sleeps 6). The fishing for bass and panfish is spectacular right in the bayou. You can also hike right from the cottage through the Nordhouse Dunes to pristine undeveloped Lake Michigan shoreline.

This place was amazing! Highly recommend this home.

Beautiful clean and neat house with amazing views Everyday we were there! It was wonderful having the outside large deck with 2 tables, with umbrellas! We spent so much time outside. So much space and an open floor plan allowed our family such great quality time "togetherness." The home provided everything we could need for the week. Having it's own dock, kayaks and the row boat (&life jackets) was by far the Funnest part. We used the gas grill often and the firepit was perfect down by the water. The kids loved the hammock and we all loved the Tetherball. Never a dull moment. The house was stocked full of games, which we played many many games, and had a blast. The t.v. was upstairs only set up with movies (also lots of movies available ) and the kids didn't even care about not having internet or tv access. We only finally used it because we had a complete rain day. Even that day was fun. The location was great, everything does require some driving, 30 minutes minimum, but once we got used to that, it was worth it to have the peaceful quiet retreat of the home. We went to the Nurnburg trail to Lake Michigan. (Long hike) went thru Manistee national forest to lake Michigan and both these were really close to the home. They provided a basket full of maps and local attractions and Mark who takes care of the place was very friendly and helpful. We did a lot of fun things this week but the best was always being able to come back to this beautiful home to spend with our family. We are so greatful to have had a vacation like this in the DeVries family home. It was truly a beautiful, memorable, unforgettable family vacation!

Owner's Response: Wow! Thank you for taking the time to point out all the things that made our cottage such a wonderful place to have your family oriented vacation. I think the only thing you didn't touch on was the waterfront horse shoe pits! Thank you, Phil & Tricia DeVries

Great summer getaway retreat!

  • 5 of 5

This place is no joke. We drove about 5 hours from chicago to stay a measly 2 nights but it was all worth it because this place is amazing.

It has everything you need: a beautiful lakeside home with a lot of space, fully stocked amenities, kayaks, a grill, a lot of privacy, and a lot of stuff to do around the surrounding areas.

We want to come back already!

This is our second year at this location and we love it! The house is everything you would expect, and the views are amazing. It is tucked back into the woods which makes the location very quiet. We will be back!

We will be back!

Great stay at Phil & Tricia's Property. We had great weather and the location of the property is perfect! cornered on the back side of a channel which gives you great privacy. The lake entertainment was everything we wished for and more. The House was clean and equipped with everything we needed to make our meals. There was more Sleeping space then we initially anticipated. This home could sleep up to 16-20 ppl with the way they have the beds set up! EXCELLENT VACATION HOME and we will definately be back again.
