Uniquely Private and Quiet. Our Two-Level home is nestled on channel-fed saltwater Potter Pond. Each level has Kitchens, Bedrooms, Bathrooms & Showers, Living Rooms and Dining Rooms on each level. The first floor sleeps 5 in two Bedrooms and a Sleep-Sofa. The Laundry is on the first floor. Both levels are joined by a Spiral Staircase. The second level sleeps 5 in one Bedroom and two Sleep-Sofas.

Saltwater Potter Pond has High and Low Tide but is very shallow and ideal for shell fishing - and we have a great recipe for Stuffed Quahogs. Some beautiful Striped Bass have been caught off our 55 foot dock. Our 2-seat Kayak is tied there and is much fun while touring the pond. You may also bring your boat (maximum 17 feet) and cruise out the channel to Point Judith Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. You will enjoy 490 Square Feet of Deck Space with the Spectacular Sunsets across the pond! Bring your binoculars (Mohegan Bluffs on Block Island, due south, can be seen on a clear day). There's a Gas Grill on the upper deck with sufficient seating and tables. Your Vacation home which we call Potter Vista is only 3 minutes from The Matunuck Oyster Bar to the North, and also just 3 minutes to the South on Succotash Road to Captain Jack's; two great seafood restaurants. Continuing South on Succotash for 1/2 half mile you will arrive at the beautiful East Matunuk Beach. Since the summer of 2012 this beach has achieved world class ratings with the construction of a $4.5 Million Dollar Pavilion that followed Hurricane Sandy. We have copies of the Press Release by the RI Department of Environmental Management that describes the facility, the great beach, and the ease of parking, etc. Succotash Road continues South and ends at the village of Jerusalem where you can enjoy more great seafood from Skip's Dock Seafood Market, and Jim's Dock Restaurant. Jerusalem also has a small beach at the Pier where parents bring young children since there are no waves and undertow.

Going back North up Succotash Road for 1/2 mile past Potter Vista, you'll find Brousseau Town Park that features a Baseball field, along with a Batting Cage. There are 2 Tennis Courts and a Basketball Court, and all 3 have lights each night until 10 PM. Brousseau also maintains huge Soccer and Lacrosse fields, and a Kiddie Playground with Sand Box, Swings, and Ladder Slides. Pets are allowed on a lease only, with other restrictions. We can also consider Pets at our house after review.

The village of Wakefield is the major commercial center of South Kingstown just 5 miles North up Route 1; Hospital, Post Office, all typical retail stores, and more great restaurants. And the "best-of-the-best" just a few minutes walk from Potter Vista is the Matunuck Oyster Bar, the HOTTEST sea food eatery in Rhode Island. The featured meals could not be any fresher since the oysters are farmed on a 7 acre portion of Potter Pond, and all their vegetables are grown at a 10 acre farm right near the pond, only a 1/4 mile from the restaurant. Guests can be treated on a tour of the pond aboard a 25 foot barge to observe how the oyster farm operates...A MUST VISIT !!

TRAVEL: Newport 30 minutes, Providence 45 minutes, Mystic CT 40 minutes, and the two World Class Casinos, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun in CT, 50 minutes away.

Upon arrival, please bring a check for $500 for Property Damage. The check will be returned if no damage has occurred and the house is clean.

Sunsets on Potter Pond

  • 5 of 5

We tremendously enjoyed our stay at this home on Potter Pond with another couple. It is located a short bike ride to the beach., restaurants, and fishing. We saw the best sunsets over the pond and were able to go clamming. Carol, the hostess, offered everything from towels to a kayak for our use. The property was clean and well maintained and wanted for nothing. We plan on returning here for years to come.

August 2016

  • 3 of 5

The location of this home is spectacular. We enjoyed claming, kayaking, and fishing . The beach is right down the street and is beautiful. The negative issues were the neighbors they harassed us and also other renter in the area.

The interior of the home needs some updating and tlc.

We did enjoy the week that we spent there. The home was large enough so that we were able to have all of our family members join us.

The owner was very pleasant and helpful and excellent with explaining the surroundings.

House is in a great location with a fantastic view

  • 5 of 5

The house is located a stones throw from Matunuck Oyster Bar. The back deck has an amazing view of the salt pond. We spent a lot of our time on the deck and watched the tide come in and out via the channel that connects it to Pt Judith Pond. The view is absolutely fantastic. The house also has a dock and the owners allowed us the use of a 2 person kayak. As for inside the house, it has 3 bedrooms with 5 beds (owners provided linens). It also has a sofa and a futon that can be used as beds. The washer and dryer was a definite plus. There are 2 kitchens, but I'd say the one on the second floor should be considered the main one. It has a large refrigerator with a water/ice maker. Plenty of tables & chairs, pots and pans, silverware, and various cooking tools. Grill on the deck and the owners made sure there was an extra propane tank. There was enough parking for 4 vehicles. The house was clean.

Great Vacation Rental

  • 5 of 5

This home had everything we needed. My elderly mother (91) was with us and the main level was great for her - the walk-in shower, the private deck, a full kitchen. The upper level was beautiful. The view from the decks was fantastic overlooking the salt pond. We all had fun in the kayak. East Matunuk beach was a short walk from the house and was great. The beach was very nice and the water was very clean. We would definitely rent this home again.

Great summer vacation with friends and family!!!

  • 4 of 5

An excellent rental for larger groups who are active and love the water., but want peace and quiet. We kayaked and paddle-boarded in the pond, swam at the beach (a short walk away), bicycled around the area, and walked in the early morning!!! We also witnessed the amazing sunsets the owners talked about!!! Many options for good eating within walking distance or in nearby Narragansett. We will definitely be booking a week again next year. The house sleeps 8 comfortably and is able to squeeze 10. Parking for 3-4 cars on the property.

We are on Succotash Road in Wakefield which is the Central Business Area of the town of South Kingstown RI. Traveling North on Route 1, from Connecticut, when you pass Matunuk Beach Road, in one mile take the right on Succotash Road for East Matunuk State Beach, and Jerusalem, a small village at the end of Succotash Rd. From Route 1 Succotash Road runs southerly with a 40 MPH speed limit. At about 3/4 of a mile down, the speed limit changes to 25 MPH as you approach a marina and two very busy restaurants. There's a Police Cruiser with flashing lights to help slow the traffic here. In another 1/2 mile you're now at the entrance to East Matunuk State Beach.

Succotash Road now turns sharply to the East into Jerusalem that has a seafood market, another restaurant, and a small beach for children.

Driving South from Providence on Route 1:

Approximately 4.5 to 5 miles past the Wakefield/Peace Dale exit you'll see a LEFT exit for Jerry Brown Farm Road. Succotash Road is the next Exit. Get over to the extreme Left(watch for merging traffic on your left). Off the exit you are now making a 90 degree turn onto Route 1 North only for 80 to 100 yards with your Right turn onto Succotash Road. (see Traveling North above and also more details in our home's descriptive)
