Overview

About the property

4 bedrm, 2 bathrm, living rm, lge kitchen, enclosed porch, washer, dryer

Enjoy your vacation in our home directly on beautiful 192 acre Lake Sokokis, located in a small, friendly Town and within easy commuting distance to Portland, Orchard Beach, flea markets and waterparks, and Biddeford or Sanford. The most direct route is from Maine route 95 at exit 32. And be sure to visit Bay Haven seafood restaurant in Cornish Maine or have breakfast or lunch at the Hungry Hollow in "downtown" Limerick.

There is a fully stocked family run supermarket within walking distance, as well as the Sokokis Seafood Restaurant that you can walk to or take the provided rowboat or canoe.

This location is 35 - 40 minutes from Orchard Beach and waterparks there, and equidistant from Naples, or Windham, Maine making it a central point for many enjoyable activities. JC's ice cream on route 25 make summer rides especially enjoyable and delicious. Within approximately 10 miles, you will find Dunkin Donuts, Subway, Hannaford's or a flashback 50's style restaurant, Blast from the Past, in Waterboro that provides a Friday Night car show. There is a family run supermarket/liquor store within easy walking distance of the house as well as an Ace Hardware and a Catholic Church.

Our beach and house faces southerly, providing plenty of sunshine during the day, with shady areas along the sides for those who prefer less sun! The beachfront provides a sandy, graduated entry to the lake that our grandkids liked both for sandcastles or swimming.

The tap water comes from the Town water supply, not from the lake, a nice feature that many vacationers may not even think to ask.

In addition to the four bedrooms (with three king size beds and one twin) guests can sleep on a queen sized pullout bed in the living room, and on a rollaway bed and a double bed sized futon available on the enclosed porch.

Bring your jet ski or boat! The public boat launch is right around the corner! Many come to fish in the many coves on the lake. According to information available online, the lake is home to largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and chain pickerel.

This lake community is a lot of summer fun packed into a small Town atmosphere! Enjoy a cookout on the beach or takeout seafood right around the corner.

If you have extended family, BRING THE RV for extra space (extra charges may apply). Plug into 30 amp service, water and sewer right on the property making family vacation an extra pile of fun!

The vacation home includes basic television channels, VCR, WIFI, full kitchen, washer/dryer, three king size beds, one twin and a rollaway (sleep 8 in beds) as mentioned earlier, plus a pull-out bed in the couch in livingroom and a futon on the enclosed porch providing additional sleeping for up to 4 more.

The driveway allows parking for several cars making family get togethers easy! Come for your vacation and have as much fun here as we have had with our family!

About Barbara Dunham

When my husband and I retired together, we frequently traveled in our RV to Florida during New England winters, and spent much time each summer enjoying our Lakehouse in Maine.

Carroll was a retired contractor who has done significant remodeling work to the Lakehouse and loved puttering around making improvements each summer and Fall. He recently lost a long and difficult battle with cancer. Barbara is a retired Massachusetts public school superintendent and has made the decision to rent the Lakehouse so others might enjoy it as we have.

We have a house in Massachusetts as well.

Barbara Dunham purchased this house in 2006

Why Barbara Dunham chose Limerick

We looked long and hard to find a house on a level, sandy beach and that was large enough to accommodate us and our children and grandchildren for vacations. It was important to us that the water supply was not pumped out of the lake and that the house had a furnace for cool nights and year round use. We were delighted to find this house, in a small and friendly Town on a "lagoon" that was safe for our grandchildren to swim without being hit by boats or large waves.

What makes this house unique

The house is located conveniently not far from Old Orchard beach, downtown Portland, Fryeburg and Cornish Maine. You will have the unique experience of privacy without being remote.

While visiting, vacationers should be sure to visit Bay Haven restaurant in Cornish, Maine for the best seafood around or terrific food in a new Sports Bar near Bay Haven in Cornish (out route 5 and left on route 25)

There is a well-supplied grocery store, ACE hardware, Cathoilic church and other small town businesses such as the "Seafood Shack" (ice cream and seafood) within walking distance. Hannaford's, a 50's style "Blast from the Past" restaurant, a Subway, and Dunkin Donuts are within a short 10 mile trip. There is a wonderful breakfast/lunch restaurant, the "Hungry Hollow", only one away mile up Town.

Excellent!

  • 5 of 5

We loved it! It was just perfect for my husband and I, two adult children and their spouses. We were able to set up a small playyard on the sandy beach for our ten month old twin grandchildren. Very quiet and secluded. Everything you could need right there.

Perfect for a relaxing family getaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here last week and it was perfect for us. We vacationed with our adult daughter and her fiancee, plus our 2 small grandchildren. The kids loved the beach and fishing. My 3 year old grandson was casting right from the dock and reeling in some small fish (of course we put them back in the lake). He had a net and caught some frogs and an small turtle. He released everything back to the water when he was done. His 4 year old sister loved jumping off the dock and swimming to she shore. My brother in law lives on another part of the lake, and he came by and gave boat rides. He also brought us a paddle board and pedal boat to use. The quiet cove was perfect for this. Plenty of parking. And the best part, is you do not have to supply linens and towels. Since we were traveling from Virginia, this was a huge plus. We took advantage of the grill and we also made smores in the fireplace. I highly recommend this property, especially if you have little ones. The fact that the Village is within walking distance is great. There is a small family owned grocery and a few restaurants and ice cream shack for a special treat!

Great beach, fun fishing and plenty of comfy beds!

  • 5 of 5

We made some great memories in Limerick. The best part of the property is the beach right outside of house. As a Mom this made it very easy to care for the kiddos and relax at the same time. Barb , the owner was helpful and gracious!

It was an awesome place to relax and have fun with the family

  • 5 of 5

We were very happy with our stay at the Dunham's. There was plenty of room for us to relax and enjoy. We stayed with extended family and our fury friends and they could not have had a better time. The fact that the cottage was right on the waters edge was a plus. We were with our Grandmother who is 83 and it was easy access to the water for her and into the house. They have everything you need to make your vacation exactly what you want. We loved that fact that the linens were included in the rental. That is very unusual and it helped to not have to think about that aspect of the vacation. Barbara thinks of everything when you stay there. There were even extra toothbrushes in the draws in the bathroom if you were to have forgotten one. Overall it was a great experience and we would do it again.

Great for family retreat and kids!

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time on Sokokis Lake at Barbara's house! So glad there were toys and my 3.5 year old son loved jumping off the dock into the water! We spent a lot of time just hanging out on the beach by the water and playing card games in the shade. The house is located in a very peaceful cove where there are not a lot of motor boats and the beach gets sun all day. The large trees surrounding the house were great for creating shade when we wanted to get out of the sun. The house really suited our needs as we had family come up and visit throughout the week from Boston, very convenient location. Limerick is a charming little sleepy town. Would defintely visit again! Thank you!

This home was delightful, nestled in a quiet cove with a wonderful dock and sandy beach.

When I selected this home I was searching for a spot that my grandchildren would enjoy. They are southerners and familiar with our warm ocean. I remember the wonderful times I spent at lakes in Maine as a child and wanted my "grands" to have the same fond memories. As a former resident of Limerick I wanted to be close to "old" friends and this lake house was even better than I had hoped. The kitchen was equipped with all that was needed and I was amazed there were so many towels (bath sheets actually). Everything we needed was right there! I would (and did) recommend the property to my friends. The grandchildren loved their Maine lake experience. After a day of swimming, fishing, and boating they were content to settle down to watch a movie; there was a wonderful selection from which to choose. A lovely touch was the chocolate, graham crackers, and marshmellows Barbara left for us to make s'mores. I honestly cannot think of any need that wasn't met! I loved my stay at the Dunham's lake home!!!!
