About Lindy Stretch
I had been visiting Mt Desert Island since I was a child and it was always a special place. In the late 90'smy family purchased Fox Field Farm and became the second family to own it in 300 years. Our family has made many memories here and are happy to have your family make those memories too.
Lindy Stretch purchased this House in 1988
Why Lindy Stretch chose Bar Harbor
The cottage has an extraordinary sunset view (rare in Maine) over Western Bay and distant Blue Hill. . It is 10 minutes form Acadia National Park and 15 minutes from Bar Harbor.

Beautiful property, comfortable 3 bedroom cottage with lovely view of the cove.
The deer that welcomed us under the on-site Apple trees were a nice surprise. Our host was more than helpful when we experienced unexpected car issue. Was so nice to return to the quiet side of the island after several days exploring the wonders of Bar Harbor and Acadia park. Would definitely recommend the cottage. Thanks for everything!
We especially loved the outdoor aspects of this house--the great front deck, fire pit, and beautiful views! It's a wonderful place to hang out and relax away from the crowds.
beautiful location, convenient to anywhere on MDI
We enjoyed the stay. The house is very spacious and was stocked with all essentials in kitchen. The yard was nice for my kids to run around in and visiting with the horses on property was very special. Some feedback I do have is related to the plug-in air freshener...this was really, really strong and off putting, and not necessary as the home was quite clean. Additionally, we arrived at night (around 8:30p) and it was pitch dark. I would have preferred that there be at least an outdoor light on as a courtesy. Overall, it was a pleasant stay. Thanks.
The property was gorgeous! We really enjoyed outside areas!
Inside was rustic. You need to bring your own hand towels and wash cloths. Also bring all your own essentials. The place was nice but the outside makes up for what the inside lacked! We enjoyed our stay!
We enjoyed the house so much. It was peaceful and quite!
We had a great time!
Nice house, no real beach access
We so wanted to love this property, but unfortunately it missed the mark a bit. The house overall is in a good location and very clean inside.
The house itself is unmarked, so we were not sure that it was the right house upon arrival. We were left scratching our heads for a bit until the owner drove up and introduced himself. The owner was very friendly.
However, we had an issue with the "beach access" portion of the rental. The beach access was dependent on the renters of another house closer to the water. When the owner met upon arrival, he said that we would be fine to go down to the water. After we unpacked and went down a little bit later, he stopped us at the edge of the property and said that the other renters were enjoying the beach and that we could not go down. He said that the other renters paid significantly more than we did and he wanted to honor their rental which had beach access priority.
That is perfectly fine and their right to do so, but it's inaccurate to say "beach access", when it is totally at the whim of another rental unit. In the end, we did not attempt again.
The inside of the house suited us just fine, but there were a few weird quirks. The second shower had wooden planks for the floor. The master bedroom had a chair facing the bedroom in front of two very large and lovely glass door. However, it was there because the doors would not stay closed otherwise. In the entryway into the house, there was an anti-rodent/pest control machine making pulsating noises. Not loud or distracting, but a little weird as the first impression. The kitchen was functional, but the pots and pants do need replacing, and note that there is no dishwasher or garbage disposal.
The WIFI was great and easily accessible. The view to the water was lovely as is the area in general. The location for Acadia access was also fantastic. There was a nice rope swing in the tree right outside and our two kids loved using it. Horses are penned in front and they were beautiful and friendly. The place was fine, but if we returned to the area we will look for alternative accommodations.
In addition to Summer, Spring and Fall are remarkable times to be at Fox Fields Farm. We are surrounded by nature preserves, and the leaves are outstanding here in the Fall. Many think that September and October are actually the best time to be here.
