A beautiful fully furnished apartment four stories in hight by the sea,walking distance from a train station, surrounded by forest walkways and cycling lanes and beautiful typical architecture.

With three bedrooms(one on suite) and two bathrooms on the top floor,a kitchen, guest toilet dining room,lounge, open reception and laundry room on the middle floor, an entrance hall an staircase with large glass windows on ground floor and storage in the basement floor you will get the feeling of living in a spacious home by the Ocean.It's circa 200 square metres in living space and can comfortably accommodate 4 adults and 2 minors.

The roof top patio has two sea views ,a view of the forests and neighbouring village, ,with lots of space for tanning and barbecuing and lunching.It gives one a sense of exclusive privacy enhanced by the tinted see through safety glass yet you feel at the centre of the community being across the road from an 80 year old chapel, a good expansive view of the main promenade, and the smell and noise of the Atlantic just 100 meters from your doorstep.

The apartment flow and design gives you the option for a private or open plan living with lots of light and flow .With the bedrooms at the top ,the kitchen and living/dining room on the first floor and the main entrances on the first floor separated by glass doors you can customise your living style.

The main Bedroom (a suite) has a bathroom with two basins, toilet,shower/bath and a bidet and a very large walk in cupboard.The bedroom itself is large (approximately 16 square meters) with an oversized double bed all in white with white linen,wooden floors and access to the outside patio. You can enjoy a good nights sleep with open patio doors,a lovely airy afternoon nap or a peaceful private place to read,this room provides a sense of being in your own spacious hotel suite in a safe,friendly and peaceful neighbourhood.

The second room has its own balcony with sea views,large in size and a double bed with white linen, with a similar feel to the suite in terms of comfort, freshness and sense of privacy.It shares the bathroom with the third bedroom which is equipped with a jacuzzi bath,shower,basin,bide, toilet and heated towel rails.

The third bedroom comes equipped with two single beds, white linen has its own balcony an sea views ,perfect room for siblings to gather,rest and socialise.

The kitchen is fully equipped with marble tops,a small centre table seating four and all the luxuries and equipment of a modern kitchen including dishwasher, if you the homely type and preparing meals .The kitchen too has views partly of the ocean and neighbouring homes.

The laundry rooms airy and light and is fully equipped with a drier ( although there are washing lines on the top floor patio) and a washing machine.

Then there is the dining room shared with the lounge area which is a great place to be.This is the largest room (circa 18 square meters ) which offers a wonderful open plan arrangement .The dining space comprises of an old french cheese cupboard,a hand made wooden round dining table with eight wooden/leather chairs which is perfect for that mediterranean eating experience with losts of accessories for good dining.

The lounge area comprises of a L shaped large luxury leather coach which seats 6.There is LED TV , sony playstation ,dvd player, traditional games,cd/hi-fi for entertainment.The has two large glass doors that when shut closes off access to the bedrooms and kitchen allowing for privacy or late night socialising without inconveniencing the rest of the tenants.It has 3 large sliding windows which when open gives you a feeling of being very much part of the warm open air and the safe and friendly neighbourhood.

The entrance to the apartment is large and airy and as you walk in you are welcomed by a wooden staircase large windows and a coat hanger on the left .The staircase leads to the bottom or the first floor.

Go downstairs for the beach equipment,body boards,beach umbrellas,matts toys and chairs.

Go upstairs and you are drawn to a reception area with two chairs giving you access to the second floor, the kitchen and the living area.This apartment feels like a house with lots space to cater for a diverse set of needs.

About Salomé

My name is Salome and I was born and live in Cortegaca.

I am related to the owner Valde Ferradaz and act as his agent for this particular property.

About the owners,

Valde is married to Jacquelene and has 3 sons. He left Portugal at the age of five and lived in South Africa for 30 years ,where he met Jacquelene.

He emigrated to the UK in 1998 and spent 8 years there and then moved to Romania for 3 years .After Romania they returned to the UK for a further 4 years and recently relocated back to South Africa where they have been living for 3 years.

Valde is a family man who enjoys travelling ,socialising and outdoor activities.

Salomé purchased this apartment in 2007

Why Salomé chose Cortegaça

by Valde- "Jacque and I bought this property as our second home , in a perfect sea side village with great weather, food and culture, my place of birth.

We had no intentions of renting it out and furnished it in such a way that it would be more like a holiday home as opposed to a rental apartment.We have spent many happy moments there,it offers tranquility and a good lifestyle,a perfect getaway for families or people who want to experience the local culture and really have a good break .

However given that we don't get the chance to go back to Portugal frequently anymore we decided to rent it out and share it with like minded people.

We love it and we hope that when you get to Cortegaca you will too!"

What makes this apartment unique

The apartment is one of two in a large apartment building.The other apartment is owned by our friend Michelle from France.

When you arrive you will be welcomed by Portuguese friendly helpful people,the peaceful and warm reception of a village by the sea,the surrounding forests,the long walkways and cycle roads,the old and new architecture all in one ,the feel of an integration of a young healthy surfing community( boasting some if the best surf schools and waves in Europe) with local fisherman,endless beaches,local food and great cafes and coffee shops.It is special.

The apartment is in the heart of the main beach promenade it has surrounding views and is across the road from a chapel,and around the corner from three or four restaurants.There are only a few holiday rentals in that community most of the neighbours are using the homes as holiday homes,but there are two caravan parks and various surf houses in the vicinity.This concoction of locals,international visitors old and young brings to life a peaceful holiday town that is bursting with energy in the day and serenity at night,although nightlife is just around the corner or in the neighbouring village its never on your doorstep.

The airy apartment has four levels,a grand open entrance hall with each bedroom feeling like its away from the other with a lot of living space.Enjoy the comforts of the apartment without feeling like you are in a rental holiday apartment but rather in a holiday home.The roof top Patio has beautiful views is private and gives you shelter from the wind and access to the sun just in case you don't want to go to the beach.

You have your own driveway and basement parking so there is no need to worry about finding parking for your rental and being inconvenienced even on the busiest of days.

What a beautiful apartment with lots of space and great amenities. A small quantities seaside town that is perfect for a relaxing holiday and close enough to Porto if you crave some shopping, drinking or partying. Highly recommend it to anyone

Very good accomodation

We loved the accomodation...a lovely apartment, clean and beautifully fitted out. Everything was very well presented. Cortegaca was a nice seaside town about a 20 minute train ride from Oporto. Good beach and not overcrowded. The big disadvantage was the town's poor bus service which meant the 6 of us had to get two taxis to the station, a long way away. In the end, we had to do quite a few long walks. Why the town council don't set up a bus route to the station and throughout the day, I don't know. Would be perfect if you're hiring a car.

Lovely, generous and comfortable Apartment/House

We were really pleased to Stay at Salomé's Apartment. We were made to feel very, very welcome the host went out of her way to help us familiarise with our surroundings providing good , solid Information. Excellent - we really enjoyed our stay and cycling around the neighbourhood.

"We loved it!"

Thank you Salome for the warm welcome to your village "the beautiful village of Cortegaca", and the the great service and hospitality(organising the surfing lessons for our sons and getting us into the local tennis club,theatre in Porto,giving us directions and guidance etc).

I personally loved running on the open beaches and forests and eating at the local restaurants ( lots of fresh catch of the day type simple restaurants with great food).The beaches are clean with lots of space and there is plenty of surfing in an around the area and every morning the fisherman go out in traditional fishing boats and its safe to go walking for miles in the forest.

The apartment is beautiful,clean and comfortable,we felt like we were at home by the beach,its quire and peaceful at night and right where everything is happening in the day.Its spacious and quite unique in the sense that it has 3 stories , lots of views and great furnishings,loved the main bedroom,the bed is huge!

We wanted an active by day and peaceful by night place and we got it.there is a lot of nightlife and we did go out a few times to a lounge bar and even a music/bar on the beach sand in Ezmoriz.

With the train station only a few pleasant minutes walk away Portugal was our Oyster.Lots of historical towns,with great food and culture at affordable prices.

We loved it and went back home feeling like we had a really good holiday .See you soon Salome!

"We loved it!"

Great holiday!

Great apartment with local personal service by Salome! .The apartment is very well located in one of the nicest places we have ever been to.There is a lot to do and see and the best part is just how peaceful and comfortable the apartment is, especially at night.Active by day and peaceful by night is what we were looking for ,although there is a lot of good nightlife and cultural attractions close by.

I personally loved the fact that I could go for long runs on the beach and forest and walk to the tennis club.The train station is a beautiful short walk from the apartment,so Portugal was our oyster really.

The kids , we couldn't get them off the beach, and they loved the light meals at the coffee shops.We tried all the seafood restaurants around us :),which provide fresh catch of the day at very reasonable prices.

The apartment is spacious,comfortable with good views,we felt like it was ours,like a second home.The beaches are first class and the culture, the food and the friendly people makes this a perfect holiday for couples and kids.Thanks Salome for organising all the extras ( surf school for the kids,theatre tickets in Porto etc) and for the great welcome to your village.

Pleasantly surprised ,great apartment.

The apartment is located close to the train station and literally by the beach.(lots of surfing and golden sands on the doorstep of a walk/cycle path through the forest along the beach (20 Km long)

Its beautiful,spacious and well equipped, we felt like we were in a home away from home ,and the beds are large and comfortable. I liked the fact that it has different levels,one feels like you have space from friends and the kids whilst in the same home.

Salome was great, explained the area well and and was literally available to provide guidance whenever.We needed for nothing and couldn't wait to retire back to the apartment after a long days holiday.Will go back there.Its peaceful there in Cortegaca,we went shopping for our groceries one day and then basically walked to the tennis club,and the station and hardly needed a car,except to go to the large supermarkets but there are smaller type stores close by in Esmoriz..

This was our first time in the north of Portugal and we won't be waisting our money going South again,the food is better,the nightlife was ample especially as you can go to Espinho or Porto by train, the food was superb and affordable,lots of fresh catch of the day etc.

Lots of coffee shops,a great one on the beach and lovely people .We visited Coimbra,Fatima and Porto.There is n historic town a bit in land called Sao joao da madeira(pardon the spelling)with a castle lots of bars and restaurant,what a lovely stay in a week .

Enough said, thank you Salome for a wonderful service and a great stay!

Cortegaca is a small town located south of Porto north of Aveiro only 30 mins away from Porto by train.

Cortegaca gives you that peaceful scenic town to enjoy its own beaches, great surfing schools and conditions, sport and leisure activity,safe and friendly forest walks or cycling, good coffee shops and local restaurants for everyday eating and the great nightlife and a choice of trendy bars shopping and open beaches in neighbouring towns within walking distance or minutes by car or train like Esmoriz ,Matosinhos or Espinho.

Its one of the few places in Portugal where the government still funds traditional fishing methods.You will get the rare opportunity to see them return early in the morning with the fresh catch and nets.

It is neighbouring a small city ,Esmoriz ( within walking distance) and between the two you have miles of beaches to choose from with lots of surfing academies and activity .There is lots of nightlife and local restaurants serving fresh catch of the day and traditional food as well as Portuguese coffee shops, open markets and even a Casino in Espinho only 10 minute by train.

The beach front is surrounded by forests with walk ways and cycling lanes of more than 20 km starting in Esmoriz,going through Cortegaca and ending in Ovar.

There are outdoor fitness training camps, indoor football and tennis clubs all within walking distance.

Cortegaca itself is an old village with beautiful churches surrounded by other beautiful towns with old forts, trendi shopping towns and of course Porto with is river tours,the old city and Porto wines.

Cortegaca train station is only a 10 minute walk from the apartment,making it easy to visit Porto,Fatima ( the Holy town),Coimbra the University town or Lisbon the capital less than3 hours by train.

Enjoy large markets or trendy nightlife in Espinho, or go to Soa Joao da feira to the castelo ( an old fortress/castle)surrounded by trend european cafes and bars with lots of history.

All in all you run of of time do it all but enjoy what you get to do wheter it be peaceful sleep,exercise,walking, enjoying the beach,surfing, go up the river Douro,shopping,wine tasting,visiting trendy historical sites and just really appreciating the sun , the warm hospitality ,the food and the real Portugal then Cortegaca puts you in the centre of a varied and wonderful experience .
