Asakusa is on the north-east fringe of central Tokyo, at the eastern end of the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line subway, approximately one mile east of the majorUeno railway/subway interchange. It is central to the area colloquially referred to as Shitamachi, which literally means "low city," referring to the low elevation of this old part of Tokyo, on the banks of the Sumida River. As the name suggests, the area has a more traditionally Japanese atmosphere than some other neighborhoods in Tokyo do.
With so many religious establishments, there are frequent matsuri (Shinto festivals) in Asakusa, as each temple or shrine hosts at least one matsuri a year, if not every season. The largest and most popular is the Sanja Matsuri in May, when roads are closed from dawn until late in the evening.
There are traditional ryokan (guest-houses), homes, and small-scale apartment buildings throughout the district.
In keeping with a peculiarly Tokyo tradition, Asakusa hosts a major cluster of domestic kitchenware stores on Kappabashi-dori, which is visited by many Tokyoites for essential supplies.
Cruises down the Sumida River depart from a wharf only a five minute walk from the temple.
Asakusa is Tokyo's oldest geisha district, and still has 45 actively working geisha.
Because of its colourful location, downtown credentials, and relaxed atmosphere by Tokyo standards, Asakusa is a popular accommodation choice for budget travelers. The area is seen as a museum of all things Japanese (typically Tokyo) with an amazing variety of restaurants (the best and most inexpensive sushi joints, the oldest Sukiyaki parlor in Tokyo , the first western restaurant in Japan, etc), shops(a 100 year old hand made knife shop, a 120 year old rice cracker shop, etc), and attractions (Sumida River Cruise, Hanayashiki Amusement Park, Sensoji Temple, Nakamise Shopping Arcade, and the latest, Tokyo Skytree, all in the neighborhood of the apartment.
This will be the perfect base for you to explore the amazing Tokyo metropolis from, while living among a friendly and easy neighborhood, experiencing real Japanese life and interacting with genuine local people. Asakusa also has direct train access to both international airports in Tokyo; Narita and Haneda., which makes your arrival to Retro Tokyo a very easy one.
Nearby the condo you can enjoy great selection of restaurants, shops and entertainment places.
There are many small local family-run restaurants and Izakaya (Japanese style bar). Wandering along narrow streets is also great adventure.
Its home to the biggest fireworks festival in Tokyo, and famous cherry blossom viewing spot along Sumida river.
Too many attractions to list them all.
Give me a message if you have questions and I am always happy to answer and help preparing your TOKYO trip.

The location cannot be beat! The host was always just an email away if we needed anything and the property didn't leave you wanting for anything. We fit 5 girls comfortably for 6 nights (we are all really close friends lol) would definitely stay here again!
The appartment was super, very well located beside a metrostation, fully equiped and spacious. The host was very gentle communacative and the directions were extremely adequate. We would certainly recommend this appartment to others ( maybe not for 4 adults). We had a marvellous time in Tokyo.
The location is good with plenty of cheap eating restaurants around. Freshness Burger is just next door serving very delicious chicken teriyaki burgers. There are 3 family restaurants within walking distance with an extensive menu for all ages and reasonable prices. The host is particularly kind and very concerned about our well being, making sure we are well dressed for the cold weather.
