About Cheryl C Miller

I moved to the Telluride Region in 1987 and have never looked back. Bud and I got married on a beautiful ranch under Mount Willson, raised 3 children out on the mesas and now enjoy our ranch on Iron Springs Mesa.

Cheryl C Miller purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Cheryl C Miller chose Colorado

The Lovenest, on Specie Mesa, was built in 1999 by my dad and his wife as a personal getaway from their hectic life. We have found the cottage to be beautifully designed for just this purpose.

What makes this cottage unique

It is beautifully located to take full advantage of the mountain views. Sitting on 40 acres you never have to see another person while it is only minutes away from the world class resort of Telluride.

Beautiful, relaxing, snowy and ICY!

  • 5 of 5

My fiancé and I chose Telluride, Colorado as our honeymoon destination. Cheryl Miller's Lovenest is a beautiful, homey, well-appointed vacation home/cabin perched on the top of a mesa (the home is built right on the edge of a steep, STEEP hill) and surrounded by forest. The views are panoramic and private... you will not see a single home or light anywhere.

We were married in Laguna Beach, CA on New Year's Day 2017, and were excited to get started with the honeymoon. Skiing in Telluride (15 miles away- the Lovenest is actually isolated in Placerville, a "town" with a tiny store and post office), shopping, restaurants, etc. were high on the list. Now, to get to the Lovenest requires a drive up a six mile gravel county road. In January, it was covered in snow and, as we found out, ice. Our Ford SUV with traction control and chains (but was not 4x4 or AWD) could not make it up the road. Thus began a rather unfortunate series of events that were, to be clear, ALL weather-related. When we arrived at the road to make the final trek up to the house, our SUV couldn't make it. We thought we were sunk, but when we called Cheryl, she told us she would be there to help us... at 8 o'clock at night! Cheryl and her son-in-law arrived with two 4x4 SUVs and, after we parked the rental in a small lot, she drove us up to the Lovenest. But her generosity did not stop there... Cheryl proceeded to loan us her own AWD SUV! My wife and I were stunned by such a gesture. This unquestioned act of trust and generosity from Cheryl and her son-in-law nearly brought us to tears.

We were able to get to Telluride, but then the 6 mile road up the mesa became icy and unpassable, and we eventually had to cut our trip short. We never skied, we never made it up to the Ski Village (which is above Telluride, not IN Telluride). Cheryl apologized when we left early, refunded the days we didn't use, and offered us a free day if we returned for the Telluride Film Fest, which we are hoping to do. Again, she was a sweet and generous host.

That said, here is some potentially helpful info for future visitors to the Lovenest:

1. Clarks Grocer in Telluride is extensive and gourmet, but pricy

2. Clarks Grocer in Norwood is extensive and cheaper

3. We brought our own blu ray DVD player

4. The wood burning stove was GREAT (plenty of wood was provided)

5. ...as was the jacuzzi tub

6. The loft / bed was magical

7. It was QUIET and ISOLATED... so be prepared!

We will definitely return!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the thoughtful review and kind words. I just wanted to note that the weather was highly unusual. In the thirty years I have lived here I have never seen freezing rain like this in January. Even the locals with all the right equipment were challenged. It was an unfortunate sequence of events and I hope they have a less adventurous stay next time. It should be noted that though this week was unusual winter is always more of a challenge in the Rockies.

Heavenly Splendor

  • 5 of 5

The Lovesnest is priceless! From strolling the 40 acres to explore the wildlife or just taking time to sit on the custom bench, perfectly placed to overlook the surrounding Mesa's in the distance.

The driveway, gate, and rustic barn that greet you upon entrance is just enough to get you excited of the cabin in the distance. Once you arrive and step out of your (4 wheel drive) vehicle - your life will never be the same. One of those memories you will come back to, in your mind, time & time again.

You almost don't want to go in, as the beauty from every angle, mesmerizes you. You stand in awe! Beautiful skies, fresh air and the massive rock formations that form mountain tops, in every direction. We are still asking, "how did we get so blessed to find this piece of heaven, on earth?"

Once your inside, you can't help but to explore every nook & cranny! Every single room captures you. You know that you have arrived! There is no space, not perfectly situated - from the mud room to the curves of the stairs, to every single window.

We grilled, we chilled in lounge chairs, we strolled the property, we had coffee on the porch, we stargazed, we took long baths, we danced, we spent hours every day, just watching the view out the windows - it never tired.

We had the pleasure of meeting the owner & that was just a sweet bonus! So kind! you could hear the privilege in her words to own this property belonging to her dad and it was evident, in everything. I loved the custom cabinetry - think pie safe turned armoire in the living area and really too many unique touches, to list ( I took lots of pictures, to reminisce).

Upon entering the the Lovenest we were greeted with sweet touches, like robes & candles, champagne, h'ourderves & fresh flowers, open windows with a welcoming breeze. It was perfection for our 25th anniversary!

We loved visiting the nearby towns! We went to them ALL - none disappointed. Telluride was my favorite! and even dipping my toes in the Specie creek, along the drive up to the cabin - was exhilarating.

I really can't say anything negative. I didn't want to leave! You are very much secluded, in a very private setting. That can take a little getting used to - in this crazy busy, never alone world. Only lights of the stars at night & the sounds of the earth. True serenity! if you can't completely escape, you have wifi, phone service and cable. We will tell our friends & God willing, will visit the Lovenest, again :)

Lovely cottage, serene setting

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is exactly as promised. We had thought, "Surely it can't be the whole building in the picture." It is, and the mountain-style architecture is beautiful. Take the "getaway" part seriously - it's six miles up a small slow road to the top of the mesa (AWD in winter a must) and while we saw other houses when out snowshoeing we saw no people at all. That said, we made the 45 minute drive to Telluride or Ridgway almost every day, so you're not stuck there if you don't want to be. And the reward is a stunning view of treetops and mountain peaks that goes for miles. We'd highly recommend it for a getaway and for any couple unless you want a lot of activity/nightlife or need in-town convenience.
