About Rosemary Minns
I was born in George Town into an old Bahamian family which has been connected with Exuma for over 200 years. I've travelled all over the world and lived in Nassau, London, and Monterey, CA, returning to design and build my dream home on our family estate in 2009. Why Rosemary Minns chose George Town
After checking out several of my favorite Bahamian islands, I decided there was no place more beautiful than Exuma, and no site more delightful or convenient than the one I already owned. Planning, building and designing interiors of houses has been my lifelong hobby and I put everything I know about homes into this one, which totally pleases me. This 215 acre property has been handed down through my father for generations, and Halcyon sits on a prime location with spectacular views of the harbor, nearby Stocking Island, and acres of green bush. Exuma is 300 miles SE from Miami, 150 miles from the Bahamas capital, Nassau; it is still undeveloped, underpopulated, and is surrounded by clear, aquamarine waters. There are breathtaking beaches just waiting for your footprints in the sand! Rent a boat and you can find reefs full of fish for snorkeling; go bonefishing, or picnic on your own little Cay. Kayaking, kite boarding, sailing, eco tours, bird watching, exploring the Exuma Cays, visiting those crazy Exuma swimming pigs - there are so many fun things for you to do. And those velvety dark Exuma nights when the sky is so crammed with bright stars? You look up and realize you're only a pinprick in eternity. There's almost no ambient light to get in the way. While it feels remote, Exuma is regularly served by major airlines from the US, Canada and Nassau, and frequent ships bring fresh produce and materials from the States and Nassau, so most things are easily available. The pace is slow and relaxing; it might take a day to wind yourself down but that's what you came for, right? At the end of your stay you won't want to leave.
What makes this Apartment unique
Half mile from George Town, half mile to local restaurants and an easy stroll to the beach. Swim to several coral heads offshore for interesting snorkeling. This unit is fresh and new, built in 2015, and is completely self-contained in the guest wing, detached from the main house and surrounded by tropical landscaping, has its own parking area, private entrance, private porch and garden. There's a great feeling of peace, space and solitude - all with hilltop breezes and amazing views. If you enjoy elegant living but like to be within walking distance of everything, this location is perfect for you.

Best part was exploring Exuma by boat (Minn's Boat Rental). We spent the days exploring the islands, beaches, sandbars, snorkel spots and beach bars. We can't wait to come back!
The property was fantastic. Great location, easy access to beaches, George Town and just relaxing on the balcony looking out at the water. The only concern was we stayed on the Garden Level apartment and had late night people as well as early risers and we could hear every footstep. So I would recommend staying in the upper apartment. Nothing anyone could do just a frustrating situation. Rosemary was a fantastic hostess.
What A Beautiful Rental
We could not have been happier with this rental. The location is perfect and the view is spectacular. Rosemary has done a wonderful job of furnishing this apartment and everything we needed for cooking in the kitchen was available. We spent endless hours on the beautiful porch just enjoying the view. She could not have been a nicer hostess. She provided us with delicious treats throughout our stay and helped me celebrate my birthday with a very special gathering of her friends and family. We will most definitely be back.
Excellent Owner - Excellent Location - Excellent Experience
Amazing stay! We absolutely loved our stay at the Halcyon! Rosemary has done an incredible job of decorating the garden apartment so that it feels so welcoming. The apartment was clean upon our arrival and Rosemary greeted us personally when we drove up. The kitchen was well-stocked with cutlery, plates, etc to make cooking in Exuma easy – groceries are expensive, but can be had at a number of markets around the island – we were partial to the Exuma Market in Georgetown. The owner also has a number of recommendations for restaurants on Exuma, so if eating out is more your thing, she has that covered as well. The furniture in the apartment is comfortable and the deck loungers are especially cozy for you take in that wonderful elevated view of Elizabeth Harbour. WIFI in the apartment was excellent to research the next day's adventures.
The location of the apartment is great if you want to walk into Georgetown (to the right when you get to the bottom of the hill) or to the Fish Fry (turn left at the bottom of the hill), however as noted in other reviews, the roads and general infrastructure in Exuma are lacking, so if you're brave enough to walk the roads (on a narrow shoulder), that is best done during daylight hours and while paying attention to any oncoming vehicles.
If you're looking for a laid-back Bahamian vacation to relax and recharge, you have found the right place. This was our first time in Exuma and after touring the island, we can honestly say we wouldn't have wanted to stay anywhere else but at the Halcyon. Thank you Rosemary! We hope to be back!
Exceeded our expectations
On a hill with spectacular views of the harbour, Halcyon is an elegant country house on a private estate but within walking distance of almost everything. It is off the main highway and a short walk to the town, the local food shacks, and a one minute walk to the nearest beach. It is centrally located on the island and equal distance from the outlying beaches, towns and restaurants. Car rental is recommended for personal sightseeing and exploring isolated beaches, but is not mandatory for daily living if you like to walk.
