It is half-mile from Georgetown, hotels, restaurants, grocery stores, banks, shops, straw market, boat rentals, water taxi dock. There is a beach at the foot of the hill, a minute away, and others nearby.

While it is near everything, the unit is completely private, in the detached guest wing of Halcyon, the owner's home. It comprises 1000 square feet of airy indoor/outdoor living space, fully equipped and furnished. It has its own parking area, entrance and its own private 300 sq ft covered porch where you can enjoy meals, the views and colorful surrounding garden.

Although fully air conditioned, the unit is cooled by breezes from the ocean and may be comfortable without using air conditioning. Provided are a King size bed, flat screen cable TV, internet, towels, beach towels, bed linens, kitchen linens, all pots, pans, dishes, eating and cooking implements, barbecue, washer and dryer.

Newly constructed in 2015 with open concept floor plan and comfortable tropical interiors, this is a perfect, secluded place to retreat after busy days in the boat, on the beach, sightseeing and water sports. Kick back with a cold Kalik, the local beer, or cook a barbecue dinner and eat on the porch. Let the gentle breezes soothe your spirit in beautiful surroundings. Your own home never felt this good!

There are chairs in the garden if all you want to do is relax in the shade with a book. There is an open upper deck if you want to laze in the sun. Without being in any way intrusive, your hostess is next door and readily available to help, explain things or tell you the history of the islands.

About Rosemary Minns

I was born in George Town into an old Bahamian family which has been connected with Exuma for over 200 years. I've travelled all over the world and lived in Nassau, London, and Monterey, CA, returning to design and build my dream home on our family estate in 2009. I love Bahamian history, so if you're interested, I'd be delighted to tell you about it over afternoon tea or a cool drink on my porch.

Rosemary Minns purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Rosemary Minns chose George Town

After checking out several of my favorite Bahamian islands, I decided there was no place more beautiful than Exuma, and no site more delightful or convenient than the one I already owned. Planning, building and designing interiors of houses has been my lifelong hobby and I put everything I know about homes into this one, which totally pleases me. This 215 acre property has been handed down through my father for generations, and Halcyon sits on a prime location with spectacular views of the harbor, nearby Stocking Island, and acres of green bush. Exuma is 300 miles SE from Miami, 150 miles from the Bahamas capital, Nassau; it is still undeveloped, underpopulated, and is surrounded by clear, aquamarine waters. There are breathtaking beaches just waiting for your footprints in the sand! Rent a boat and you can find reefs full of fish for snorkeling; go bonefishing, or picnic on your own little Cay. Kayaking, kite boarding, sailing, eco tours, bird watching, exploring the Exuma Cays, visiting those crazy Exuma swimming pigs - there are so many fun things for you to do. And those velvety dark Exuma nights when the sky is so crammed with bright stars? You look up and realize you're only a pinprick in eternity. There's almost no ambient light to get in the way.

While it feels remote, Exuma is regularly served by major airlines from the US, Canada and Nassau, and frequent ships bring fresh produce and materials from the States and Nassau, so most things are easily available. The pace is slow and relaxing; it might take a day to wind yourself down but that's what you came for, right? At the end of your stay you won't want to leave.

What makes this cottage unique

Half mile from George Town, half mile to local restaurants and an easy stroll to the beach. Swim to several coral heads offshore for interesting snorkeling.

This unit is fresh and new, built in 2015, and is completely self-contained in the guest wing, detached from the main house and surrounded by tropical landscaping, has its own parking area, private entrance, private porch and garden. There's a great feeling of peace, space and solitude - all with hilltop breezes and amazing views.

If you enjoy elegant living but like to be within walking distance of everything, this location is perfect for you.

Most Amazing Property in Exuma!

  • 5 of 5

I could write a novel on this place; we loved it sooo much!!...and as you can see, this is a 5 Star place! Halcyon means everything tranquil & peaceful. Rosemary really went to every length to make us feel home away from home and has equipped the Garden Apt. with everything you need, and more. She has the most amazing honey; it tastes like I was eating a flower! The gecko's were running around and the birds singing in the morning; that was very welcoming in the mornings and throughout the day. We used the covered porch as an extension of the apt. and we were dry when it rained...and what a view!!!...we couldn't get over it, staring into that beautiful colored water over the most gorgeous, amazing garden. The King bed was very comfy and the shower was awesome! The kitchen has everything in it you need and more, plus laundry facilities just off of the porch. Lots of fans and A/C if you need it and ample parking. There is an outside shower for rinsing off your gear and feet from the beach and there is a little patio with a BBQ too!...plus a clothes-line. You can't hear the people above you either; it's well sound-proofed! We walked through the garden with the Go-pro and took many video's and pics but watch out for the bee-hives on the side of her house. Amazing views from the back of the property too; you can see to the other side of the island. Rosemary gave us her wisdom and favorite places to go. One of us ended up with a sore ear on the day we had to leave and Rosemary told us what doctor to go see and we got in on very good time and Rosemary put us up for another night which we are so grateful for. She invited us into her house and showed us the amazing views from her patio and now we know why she picked the place she did to build there. We cannot say anything negative at all about Halcyon other than don't expect to get the internet on demand in Exuma. There is no doubt in our mind that we will stay there again if we return. It is so close to town but it feels like you are so secluded at the same time. Exuma is full of beaches, beaches, beaches...and sometimes you are the only one on them...unbelievable!!...and the people are very friendly too. Don't think twice if you are thinking of going there, you will not be disappointed staying at Halcyon - A very classy place with a classy woman's fingerprint on it!!!

Thank you Rosemary!!!

Rob & Terry - Hope to see you again!

Garden Apartment 8 day stay March 2018

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic stay at Halcyon, Garden Apartment. The location was superb for getting to both the southern and northern sides of the island (via car), with many delicious Bahamian and other style restaurants/cafes, and many beautiful beaches, including ones which were secluded, with very few other swimmers. Monica was a wonderful hostess. She gave us insider tips for enjoying the island, where to buy things, best places to eat, tours to the local cays (small islands), and knew the answers to our various questions throughout the stay. We met Rosemary, who was equally delightful. The apartment had a tremendous view from the covered deck. We never had seen such beautiful ocean colors that vary throughout the day. We had complete privacy and enjoyed the quiet relaxation at all times of day. The apartment and deck was comfortable and spacious for the two of us. The apartment is nestled within a hillside with a well-cared for and colorful tropical garden. The rooms were beautifully and comfortably decorated and pristine. They were well stocked for all kitchen, bathroom, laundry (free) and other visitor needs. We used the available snorkeling gear, beach umbrella, yoga mat and beach towels. There is a snorkeling beach at the base of the small hill below the apartment. We went to the Fish Fry several times, which is within walking distance (though we drove to it), and we walked into Georgetown for breakfast on one occasion (most of the time cooked it in our apartment). One must use caution walking on the primary main road at the base of the property, which runs the entire length of the island. It is relatively narrow, with no paved sidewalk. Besides touring the cays to swim with the pigs (yes!) and other fun activities, we rented a motor boat from Minns Water Sports in Georgetown and spent a beautiful day motoring around and exploring Stocking Island-- snorkeling and eating great food at Chat n Chill and Lumina Point. By the end of our stay, we were completely relaxed and sorry to have to say goodbye. Highly recommended for people who love the freedom to explore, swim, snorkel, boat, hike and experience local, delicious food and music in a casual and relaxing destination.

Wonderful Two Weeks in Exuma

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from spending 2 weeks with Rosemary in beautiful Exuma. We so enjoyed our relaxing time there. The Garden apartment is just at the pictures depict and very comfortable and clean. The view from the porch was spectacular and we enjoyed sitting out there in the mornings and evenings. Rosemary was so kind and it was lovely getting to know her. She and Monica gave us plenty of information on places to eat, beaches to visit, boat tours, etc.

The location is perfect for getting to town or going north to more beaches. There is a nice little beach just down the hill from the apartment although having a car allows you to explore more and walking on the road that has no sidewalks can be treacherous.

We hope to return sometime soon and enjoy this piece of paradise again.

Epic trip! Wonderful home!

  • 5 of 5

Wow, this Halcyon garden home was perfect in every way!! Super clean, great location, lovely decor & packed with extra amenities.

Location:

Absolutely perfect! Conveniently located close to the airport, Georgetown & the water taxi. Very close to Jolly Hall beach (one of the best). We loved this Central spot on the island perfect for traveling north one day & south the next to explore.

You have a perfect perch on a small hill for an astonishing ocean view from your patio and out the windows. So stunning!

The small beach at the bottom of the hill (easy walking distance with a somewhat steep hill) provided a stunning snorkeling spot. Look for the orange buoys. Those represent epic snorkeling.

You're very close to several restaurants including my favorite, Splash. The food there was really good (kinda reasonably priced considering) but it's the awesome vibe that makes this place so great. Swings at the bar, pool tables and a beach front location.

Halcyon amenities abound...

In the kitchen: A blender, can opener, dishes for indoor and outdoor dining, sharp knives, mixing bowls, even some Tupperware we used for transporting our picnic lunch (cooler provided!)

Extras: Two sets of beach towels, lots of bath towels and wash cloths. Two folding chairs for the beach and an umbrella for use. There is also a large straw bag for transporting your beach gear. Perfect!

Lots of candles (for the occasional and short lived power outage that is part of Exuma island life) & even some special bug repelling lanterns for enjoying time on the deck.

An outdoor shower and a clothesline too for hanging your towels to dry.

Use of a full size washer and dryer with detergent provided. Yes!

A little library of books to read, two decks of playing cards, and cable tv provide late night entertainment.

Island tips:

The bugs are only bad at sunrise and sunset so either avoid the outdoors at those times or use bug spray (there's even some provided!). Otherwise you'll be fine.

If it's too windy one day, take the water taxi to nearby Stocking Island for gentler breezes.

Best beaches: Coco Plum, Tropic of Cancer, Jolly Hall and Powder Sand (Stocking Island).

Rosemary is a wonderful hostess but gave us total privacy until the last day when we knocked on her door to enjoy her wonderful company. So happy we did as she's a huge part of the charm at this ideal home away from home.

You'll be SO glad to book this home for your vacation. We found it to be absolutely perfect!!

Spotless, comfortable, great views, and Rosemary.

  • 5 of 5

Where do I begin? I am convinced we picked the best place for 1-2 people to stay in Exuma. It was impeccably clean, very comfortable, and the view is breathtaking. As other reviewers have said, Rosemary is THE best. She is so kind and welcoming. She will give you a short tour of the island and recommend places. One thing we look for on warm weather vacations is a covered porch with comfortable furniture. With a great view, we want to spend time outside looking at it. So we look for furniture we can sink into rather than a hard chair. Rosemary's furniture fit the bill. Furthermore, the couch inside was comfortable and the bed was comfortable--no achy back like I sometimes get on vacation. The kitchen was well-equipped. Rosemary had cold beverages and ice cubes made, which were refreshing after a long day of travel. The view and Rosemary's amazing gardens were even better in person. The beach that is within walking distance is very nice, and we were the only ones using it when we were there. We rented a car for three days, so we could get groceries and explore other beaches. There are many things you can do without a car. Boat tours and car rentals will pick up and drop off at the cottage making it very convenient. We walked to the fish fry and if you're willing to walk a little further, there are some resorts with decent food, too. We also walked into town and took the water taxi to Stocking Island where we had the pig roast at Chat n' Chill. Overall, it was one of our most relaxing vacations ever! Thank you Rosemary for your wonderful hospitality and for the careful thought you put into your amazing cottage!

On a hill with spectacular views of the harbour, Halcyon is an elegant country house on a private estate but within walking distance of almost everything. It is off the main highway and a short walk to the town, the local food shacks, and one minute walk to the nearest beach. It is centrally located on the island and equal distance from the outlying beaches, towns and restaurants. Car rental is suggested for personal sightseeing and exploring isolated beaches, but is not necessary for daily living if you like to walk.
