Beautiful Cabin Over The Water On Long Pond With Attitude Adjustment Deck

Long Pond Camp is situated upon a peninsula surrounded by water in the Western Adirondack Mountains. Long Pond is about one and a half miles long with many surrounding ponds such as Round Pond, Rock Pond, Trout Pond, Clear Pond and Mud Pond which are all within an easy walking distance. Jake's Pond is a beautiful, longer walk on one of many marked trails. Some of the ponds can be paddled to directly or paddle down the Oswegatchie River to Rock Pond, Trout Pond or Mud Pond. There are maps at Camp for your use to personalize your own Adirondack Adventure. For snowmobiling, Camp is located near Lewis County #5 and #8 trails - all beautiful trails to anywhere in the state.

The cabin has three bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen, screened front porch, dining and living area and its own private 'Attitude Adjustment Deck' right over the water. The boathouse offers a wood stove and gas heater for the cooler Adirondack months.

Camp sets on a peninsula surrounded on three sides by water. A screened porch and open deck overlooking the beautiful Adirondacks. No matter what the season, every day is beautiful. The summer sun off the water, winter all in white or the fall with its intense colors. The Camp is surrounded by huge white pines, hemlock woods and maple hardwoods for color and fragrance. Camp is located 1/4 mile on a private driveway off peaceful Long Pond Road. Camp is approximately ten miles from the Village of Croghan.

Included with the cabin are two kayaks, a canoe and a rowboat are available for your enjoyment. Plus, Camp has a wonderful sandy beach which is perfect for swimming. Enjoy a game of horseshoes or a campfire by the pond at night.

Rest assured, the boathouse and main house are completely separate with their own parking, beaches, campfires, docks and grills. Please see Listing #3560285 for details on the main house. We offer a discounted rate for the boathouse per week if rented with the main house. This makes Camp perfect for family times or entertaining guests who want their own space. Camp has been enjoyed for five generations and will be by you and your family, as well. Camp surrounded by nature, beauty and serenity stays in your heart until you return.

To make your stay enjoyable we supply wood for the campfires and wood stoves, blankets, pillows, bathroom tissue, paper towels, dish towels, dish soap, cleaning supplies and basic spices.

If you like a remote location on a beautiful Adirondack Pond (Lake by my standards), this is the spot.

Weather terrible for all but 12 hours of our stay, but loved the cabin and surroundings despite relentless rain. Had looked forward to swimming, but alas the weather didn't cooperate. Enjoyed paddling on the pond.

Owner most helpful and accommodating!

Relaxation at Long Last !

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had the best weekend, even though we didn't stay at long pond...We actually went to one of the owner's other properties because she (Erin) was considerate of our needs for the weekend. The " French Pond" cabin was wonderful, like taking a step back in time to when times were simpler. We got to enjoy being in a very spacious 2100 square foot cabin with AWESOME earlier 1900's style stove. Which was my favorite thing in the cabin, not only did it heat the majority of the cabin. We did our cooking, on it, used as an excuse to snuggle up close in one room My wife and I both agree if you are looking for a vintage style outing of what times were like when people actually loved each other instead of chasing the next dollar try one of the Hardy's cabins. You will not regret it! Thanks

Great hosts, beautiful lake

  • 4 of 5

We just returned from a week's stay. The camp is rustic, but had all we needed. Not having to bring our kayaks with us was wonderful! We had a great time paddling in the nearby lakes, and hiking through the woods. Unfortunately, the toilet was temperamental, the big camp across the lake had people who did not adhere to quiet hours, and the guests at the main house had a dog that barked...a lot. The owners told us that the mattresses are going to be replaced soon: once this is done, the place will truly be wonderful!

Lovely place and people.

The boat house is clean and cozy. It is ON the water, which is clean and very swimmable. There are perfect beaches right on the property. You have free use of kayaks, canoes, and a rowboat. A big old turtle comes around for snacks every day. You will see and hear loons! Very nice trails all around. We met the owners and they are charming, thoughtful, easy to do business with, and thoroughly decent. Give us more like them! :) The boat house and the big house are in sight of each other but private. There is a well-run children's camp across the pond. You will hear and see camp activities at various times during the day when in session--a surprise that we got over quickly.

Pleasant Cabin

  • 3 of 5

I have mixed reactions to my week at the Long Pond Cabin. The cabin was very comfortable and had all the amenities I needed. I enjoyed the "attitude adjustment" deck in the mornings but by afternoon the sun made it too hot. An umbrella for shade would have made a big difference. The pond was beautiful and I was very fortunate to have excellent weather for kayaking.

Cons: I felt the description of the property was a bit misleading. The pictures and the claim of completely separate docks, boats, and beaches led me to believe that there was some separation between the main house and the boat house cabin. Not so. The parking area for both residences is right outside the cabin's back door and is the view from the small screened in porch. The main house is practically on the doorstep of the cabin so there is little to no privacy. When I was there the main house was accommodating several adults and three small children. Though the people were nice enough, I had not counted on the close encounters and accompanying noise. Beaches? There was one beach by the big house.

Also, renters need to be aware that during the summer months the Oswegatchie Educational Center camp is directly across from the cabin. This camp has an average of 150 11 to 18 year old campers each week. Sound carries. Kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards keep the pond busy and mealtimes feature chanting and yelling. None of this is terribly disturbing if you are expecting it and the kids can be fun to watch.

There is no TV reception, only DVDs to watch, though the main house apparently does have TV stations. No cell coverage. ( I had to drive approximately 5 miles to get a signal). No internet. And you have to take your garbage when you leave!

Shortly after I arrived I needed to contact the owners and left messages for both Dave and Erin. Of course they couldn't have called me back with no service! Fortunately Dave happened by the next day so I was able to resolve my issue. It was disturbing, however, that he told me they had not received my messages because they were out of cell coverage range working at another residence. Another day I had a problem with electricity. I was able to contact Erin, who was in Syracuse, and she was going to contact Dave and/or a neighbor. Turned out neither Dave nor the neighbor were around to help. Fortunately I was able to solve the problem on my own but if I had not been able to, I would have been without electricity for ????

Owner's Response: We don't have any mixed reactions about the necessity to respond to this hopefully very obvious inaccurate review. This guest was traveling alone & we went way beyond any normal expectation to accommodate various, unusual requests from a heater in July to bringing her a lounge chair she felt she needed. An example of her review being unfair & inaccurate is putting a con to having to remove her trash when she read & agreed to do this in the rental agreement (& it is in the info pdf that we send ahead of time & in the binder in the cabin); there is not any trash service in the mountains. Another example is the TV. As she stated in her review there are DVD's, a new TV & a DVD player which is EXACTLY as we have it advertised. As I write this we still do NOT have cable advertised because we don't want to advertise something we can't fully deliver. Service is very unreliable in this part of the ADK mountains. We are probably missing out on some business from the folks that need cable when they are in the mountains but we want to be able to deliver what we say we will. It is completely unfair to complain about something that is not even part of the rental. As for the beaches, this is the first time we have ever had anyone say anything other than the swimming was wonderful & the beach areas are sandy - all 3 of them. They aren't ocean beaches but they are wonderful, sandy lake beaches. Plus, there are 2 other beach areas on Long Pond that can be easily kayaked to. For the cell phone coverage, I had answered her questions about cell phone coverage & told her our cell phones don't work there. We had offered our personal WiFi password & here is her response "I actually have my own Verizon mifi and will just have to see if it works. If it doesn't I'll contact you for the wifi emergency password." When we were at the cabin several times because of her requests, she never once said her mifi doesn't work & wanted our password. We were two miles away from this guest for most of her stay. 99.99% of our guests understand that we don't live at Long Pond & don't expect (or want & don't need) us to be staying at the property w/them. We have wonderful neighbors (all across the pond so not right next door). They have offered to help whenever we need it - how lucky is that! If we can't get them, we do drive the two hour trip - no problem when someone needs it. The electrical issue she said she was having, has NEVER happened before & ironically she fixed it.

A relaxing lake setting

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed the woodsy boat house on Long Pond. It provided a great view of the lake and some wonderful walking trails. The setting also provided a wonderful opportunity to watch youth campers having fun on the water. It brought back many memories of our experiences camping as kids. If you want to get aware from everything, this is a good setting for a small family or couple.
