Our home is located just outside Rehoboth city limits. It is one half block W. of Silver Lake. A 5-7 minute walk to Atlantic Ocean/beach/boardwalk on the East side of Highway One. This quiet area has off-street parking for 2 cars and because you are outside city limits, you don't need a parking permit to park on the street. We have tenants that return each year to this home because the house is well-maintained, its on a quiet street that is close enough to walk to everything, and its kept very clean and provides you with everything you need to enjoy your vacation as if you were in your own home. My husband is a local general contractor for over 25 years. We purchased this home in 2004. We renovated the entire place (inside and out). We are hands-on Landlords that pride ourselves with providing our tenants with a clean, fresh home to vacation at, just like we want when we travel. We allow some folks to travel with their dogs, but expect them to take care of our home.
Things to know and see: just 1/2 block from The Dove Call is a stop for the Jolly Trolly. This is a reasonably priced Trolly car that can take you to Dewey Beach where you will find lots of bars, restaurants, shops, jet skis and more beaches, or to Rehoboth Avenue, where you will find more great restaurants, shops, arcades, Funland (kids rides), and Rehoboth beach's one mile boardwalk and much more. The Trolly is a way to get to lots more places without trying to find metered or permit parking. However, if you do want to park a bit closer to the beach, you will need to either feed the meters, or in some areas where no meters are located you will need a parking permit. These can be obtained at City Hall on Rehoboth Avenue or just across the white bridge heading into Rehoboth near Silver Lake. About two blocks on your right you will see blue umbrellas with a person there selling these permits for the City of Rehoboth Beach. You can purchase daily or for the week. As me, and I can pick up the permit for you at an additional charge (permit plus a small fee).
Nearby attractions:: Big Fish Grille is a great seafood restaurant just one mile from this house. It also has a seafood market attached to it if you would rather cook at the house on the grill or inside. Victoria's Restaurant is an upscale restaurant located at the Boardwalk Plaza Hotel on the Boardwalk overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Catchers is a simple, really good seafood restaurant on Rehoboth Avenue right near Starbucks and Cultured Pearl (a sushi restaurant). If you are in the mood for a GREAT Steak--you don't want to miss 1776 Restaurant which is in the same plaza as the Movie Theaters on Route One North (approximately 3 miles from The Dove Call). Grotto Pizza is the most popular pizza place in the area and it delivers, although I prefer Loui's Pizza located right next to Dollie's Popcorn on the Boardwalk/Rehoboth Avenue.
Jungle Jim's has big water slides and a lazy lake if you want something other than the beach. The Tangier Outlets has three locations and lots of tax-free shopping. Head boats for fishing are located 6 miles north in Lewes, Delaware. Also in Lewes are more GREAT restaurants and quaint shops. There is also a biking trail that goes from Rehoboth to Lewes. Lewes also has a State Park where you can head out to the Ocean, fishing pier, or just walk and/or bike. You can get a beach tag and drive onto the beach too. There is so much to do in the Rehoboth/Lewes/Dewey area.
My husband, Douglas and I had purchased this property in 2004--we were both general contractors. Doug was a local, born and raised here in Delaware. His passing in 2015, has left a huge hole in my heart and life. We remodeled this property completely. We have several repeat renters who have come to stay at our property we call The Dove Call for many years. I have changed the changeover day to Friday's for 2016 so that people can enjoy a full weekend and hopefully deal with less traffic.
Allison Hedley purchased this house in 2004
Our property is clean, well taken care of and close to the boardwalk. The Jolly Trolley transportation is 1/2 block from our home for those people who would like a quick ride to downtown Dewey or downtown Rehoboth!
The unique benefits of our home is that I am a hands on property owner. I clean between renters, book the rentals, and assure any repairs are performed timely. I am there for anything you may need--I will certainly try to create an enjoyable week for you!
We had a great time staying at the Dove Call. The house comes with everything you need while on vacation, and we really appreciated not having to bring linens for 6 with us. Clean, comfortable and well cared for aptly describes this home. A healthy walk on a hot day to the shops and restaurants, but the Jolly Trolly is nearby and is a fun way to get around.
Thanks Alli and we hope to see you next summer.
My friends and I booked our stay for the July 4th long weekend. The house is really charming and well maintained. It has three regular bedrooms with a separate living room space that has two twin beds. The location is perfect for us because we can walk to south Rehoboth boardwalk within 15 minutes while enjoying the lovely neighborhood. Alli had been a great host along our stay. She informed us about the fireworks display on July 3rd and we had a great experience. Alli is a very accountable host and I feel at ease to know that she is a phone call away if we ever need her help. We will definitely return here for our next trip!
You could not ask for more from a vacation rental home. the house is bright and every clean and well stocked and it was great that we could bring our one year Golden retriever with us. Having linens provided by the home owner is a huge plus. We will be renting again next summer.
We just returned from our third year staying at The Dove Call and plan to return next year too. The house if bright, clean, comfortable, well stocked and wonderfully located. Most of us walked at least one way to or from the beach and boardwalk each day, so very convenient. I'm so amazed at how organized every room and kitchen drawer is - so easy to find what you need and having linens is a giant help with packing. Beds were comfortable and we didn't want for a thing. Each year we walk into a beautifully decorated and fresh looking home. Our initial draw was because we wanted to bring our dogs with us. Perfect for them as well. And Allison is so helpful in suggesting restaurant and carry out crabs :). Couldn't ask for a better spot.
This is by far the most spotlessly clean home I've ever rented (across many states and years) and also the most fully supplied. Everything you need to cook is there, and it's clean and well-organized. The house is a great size, with 3 bedrooms and 2 baths, a kitchen/dining area and a living area. There's also a nice backyard / patio area too! We really enjoyed staying here. My one piece of advice is that the house faces a very busy road, so be sure to keep an eye on little ones and furry ones, but the house itself is amazing. Thanks, Allison!
We had a great time at the dove call during our family summer vacation in July. There was just plenty of room to fit my parents, sister, her fiancee and my niece, my other sister, myself, my husband and our dog. I was looking for a big enough summer beach house where we would not be crammed at a reasonable price. Then I came across the dove call. The inside is nicely decorated in a beachy theme and was very roomy. The kitchen had all the necessary items to prepare breakfast and dinner had a table big enough to fit all of us. Also their is another deck with a table in the back of the house where we spent most of our time hanging out. There are 4 tv's in the house, which was great because of course not everyone wants to watch the same program. Our golden doodle Sophie seemed right at home in the dove call. The house was a little ways to the beach in a quiet neighborhood away from all the hustle and bustle of the main town. The walk to the beach was maybe 10 minutes, but didn't mind because it was mostly a shaded walk. On our nights out we headed to the end of the street to the jolly trolly stop. It was right in the middle of dewey and rehoboth beach. We took the jolly trolley all the time. It was so convenient considering its hard to find parking in rehoboth beach. Overall our stay at the dove call was awesome and and would recommend it to anyone wanting to get away for a quiet relaxing vacation.
THE DOVE CALL single story 3 bedroom house is just about 3.5 short blocks to south end of Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk and Atlantic Ocean. It takes 5-7 minutes to walk there from our home. It is 1/2 mile per the odometer. Rehoboth Avenue is a 10 minute simple walk. If you are not up for the walk to Rehoboth Avenue, you can also hop on the Jolly Trolly at end of our street and take a ride to downtown Rehoboth Beach where you will find lots of shops, plenty of awesome restaurants and arcades, ice cream and much more. Or head South on the trolley to Dewey Beach (one mile away) where you will find several more restaurants, another beautiful beach and lots of bars and shops. The Jolly Trolly picks you up and drops you off at the end of Robinsons Drive where it intersects with Silver Lake Drive aka Bayard Avenue.
Our house is not even one mile from Big Fish Grille (a great seafood restaurant for reasonable prices), and about 1-1/2 to 2 miles to the Tanger Outlets, Outback, grocery stores, etc.
Other Activities: When my family visits, we head to the beach and to Funland which is great for small children, teens, and adults. It has rides for reasonable rates, and also has a huge arcade. The Rehoboth Boardwalk is a one mile stretch right on the Atlantic Ocean. There are great restaurants, fun shops, and treats. Or you can just people watch from the benches along the boardwalk. There is also a bandstand where they have great shows throughout the summer! Fireworks off the coast for the 4th of July. Delaware is also tax free shopping--so we usually hit the outlets too. Great, Great restaurants in Rehoboth, 6 miles north in Lewes, and south in Dewey or Bethany Beach. Jungle Jim's water slides are 1 mile from The Dove Call and they are FUN! There are headboats for fishing in Lewes. Golf courses in every direction. Oh, and if its raining--movie theaters. We also have a 24/7 Club Fitness gym to work out at and state parks to bike or hike! So much to do...I love it!
Golf: The Rookery Golf Course is about 10 miles north of Rehoboth. Baywood Greens is a gorgeous course about 6 miles west of Route one in Millsboro. This course has a great restaurant too. There are some other courses south in Oceanview, Delaware and Ocean City, MD.
