I am a retired educator who loves to travel. I have grown children in the area and in New York. I love living in San Francisco and will be happy to share some of my favorite spots many of which would be known only by locals.
Ellen Dean purchased this house in 1999
This home is located in an ideal part of the City. The neighborhood is safe and clean yet easily accessible to downtown, sporting venues, and the parks and hiking options within the City. Nearby attractions include the Symphony Hall, beautiful beaches and Golden Gate Park complete with a world class museum, Academy of Science and an amazing botanical garden. The wine country of Sonoma and Napa are an hour away by car. Silicon Valley and Berkely/Oakland can be accessed by public transportation as well as easy freeway driving.
I love the convenience of this home to city activities yet when I am at home, the neighborhood is extremely quiet and often the only sound is the fog horn on the Bay or the chirping of birds in the morning. Public transportation via bus lines 22 and 30 are within blocks of the house.
This home is exceptionally gorgeous. So much so that I didn't want to leave. The interior is furnished with exquisite taste. You just feel happy being there. One night before going out to dinner we decided to relaxed on the charming patio with a glass of wine and enjoyed some nice cheese as well. Afterwards, we took a short walk to Chestnut Street and had dinner at Izza's!! A delicious steak House restaurant! I also recommend; Mama Mexican Restaurant, Lucca Italian Deli, and Over the Moon for the best ice cream in SF. There are so many more great restaurants on Chestnut and Steiner. All within walking distance. And the Marina is definitely within walking distance. You can even walk to the Golden Gate Bridge which is a little farther. I would say a lot of people young and old prefer to walk everywhere in the Marina District, especially when the weather is great, just like on Sunday, July 10th. Our last day in SF. But since our flight was at 10:00pm, we had plenty of time to walk on the GGB, 1.7 miles and we also, had time to visit the museum Legion of Honor! All before returning home to Los Angeles. We look forward to our next HomeAway and stay at this incredible home!!! I can't wait!!
My wife, son and I stayed in Ellen's beautiful home during preparations for our daughter's wedding. The home is tastefully decorated and is everything as advertised. Having off street parking in the marina can't be overvalued.
Ellen provides all of the information for your stay and the area has all of the amenities to make this the perfect location for a visit to San Francisco.
We stayed at this beautifully furnished and comfortable house in the Marina district over the Christmas holidays and found it to be a wonderful location for reaching out to explore San Francisco. It is located on a quiet street, but only a short walk from restaurants, coffee shops and galleries on bustling Chestnut St. and a few short blocks to the marina on SF Bay with views of the GG Bridge. The area is flat which facilitates local walking and buses are near for venturing outside the Marina. The house is well-cared for, the kitchen well-equipped, the beds comfortable, the study and pull out bed served as a comfortable 2nd bedroom and the 1.5 baths were a great asset with our adult daughter staying with us. We are sure that the nice patio would be very pleasant in warm weather.
The owner, Ellen, answered all questions before our arrival with suggestions for local restaurants, etc. (all turned out to be excellent). Even though she was traveling, she immediately responded via email to a couple of questions we had during our stay. We did not rent a car, but Ellen offered a parking space in her driveway or spacious garage. We highly recommend this lovely house to anyone looking for a VRBO rental in SF.
The flat was impeccable. Centrally located and stocked with everything needed. It is an updated and cozy flat with a beautiful deck and outside sitting area below the deck. The owner was available when needed and overall it was one of our best experiences in San Francisco. It was completely quiet and tastefully furnished. Would recommend this property highly...5 stars!!
We can't believe our good fortune in having the opportunity to stay in this marvelous property. The home is just blocks from the San Francisco Bay and marvelous eating and shopping experiences.
We felt like we were staying in a favorite relatives home... That is if you have one with beautiful taste in decorating! Ellen leaves the home for you with full access to her garden patio, her beautifully appointed kitchen and a super cool shower including a view of a small garden area on the other side of the shower wall. The king size bed was so comfortable and had beautiful linens. Our adult son, slept in the den fold out couch and said he slept great.
We enjoyed the beautiful, comfortable living room for relaxing and visiting with family from the area and played some mean cribbage around the dining room table. Two bathrooms is a definite plus. As we had a car, we didn't take lightly the opportunity to park in the driveway of this property... And if we had wanted, would have had garage parking available.
Ellen is a great communicator... We feel like we have a new friend .... almost relative in SF! We benefited from her tips and recommendations, her clear directions and were in regular contact through booking, prearrival and post visit.
We will count ourselves blessed if we have the opportunity to stay in Ellen's home when we return to the city.
A beautiful, tastefully furnished home in a great area. 5 mins from Chestnut St, the Marina waterfront and various bus routes. Each evening when we returned from exploring the city it was great to return to a luxurious but homely sanctuary. We didn't cook in the house but the kitchen had all you'd need. Good variety of eating places on Chestnut St with a wonderful deli/grocery and Safeway a little further, but still within walking distance. We spent time discussing the rental with Ellen before we arrived so that we knew exactly what to expect. We were happy to water the odd plant & generally treat the place as our home and respect the fine furnishings. We appreciated Ellen's prompt response to any emails or texts and the speedy return of our Security Deposit. We would love to come back and stay in this lovely home if ever we return to San Francisco.
This property is located in one of the premier neighborhoods in San Francisco. You will be able to walk to the Bay and view the Golden Gate Bridge within minutes. The entire city Can be explored by public transportation. A car is not necessary although the rental comes with parking, an added benefit in San Francisco. San Francisco has it all...sports teams, fine dining, ethnic diversity and world class views. The residents are friendly and helpful to visitors. The weather is comfortable and mild, never getting too hot or too cold. Highlights of your visit might be a day in Muir Woods, a ferry ride on the Bay or a fabulous meal in Chinatown or North Beach. And of course, don't forgot a ride on a cable car.
