About darla sears

Montreal neurologist and historian with an interest in saving Woods Harbour s lovely old homes.

darla sears purchased this house in 2013

Why darla sears chose Lower Woods Harbour

It had a hole in the ceiling through which water poured into the bedrooms below; it stank nauseatingly of animal excreta; its exterior reflected long neglect; it had long been on the market. All of which meant that it could be purchased at a price such that renovating it became financially feasible. Besides, I knew I had a superb Woods Harbour team that relished this sort of challenge--I had done a fisherman's cottage a few doors down the street with them eight years ago (look up the Cockawit House on this same website--a charming pale yellow 1 1/2 story--on this same website), and guests keep praising that property highly. We had so many people book there that we could not accommodate them all, and since we hoped to draw more tourists to the Lower Woods Harbour area, this second house came to us at a perfect time.

What makes this house unique

Large rooms (and the narrow back stairs for hired help) give a sense of the stately lives of the upper middle class in the 1890s. There is so much room families will easily be able to stay out of each other's way, yet enjoy the get-togethers around the diing room table. The harbour with its colourful fleet of fishing boats is just a minute or two out the front door. Many fine things to do (that are not in the tourist books) and the excellent care of our staff will make our guests fondly remember their Breakwater stay.

pleasant wide walking and bike-riding trail through forest behind house on former railroad track. Swimming on beautiful sand beaches 14 and 21 km away. Shopping for food, meds, and good choice of restaurants 14 km away in Barrington. Beautiful port at Shellbourne, 40 min. distant. Some of our guests brought sea kayaks and had a grand time. There are various museums in the area, but you'll enjoy being away from the usual tourist circuit.

Great location for touring both shores

We were a group of 6 on a motorcycle trip. The property was perfect for our needs...clean, comfortable and well appointed. The house has great character. If I were to make any suggestions, it would be to add a shower rod and curtain to the upstairs bathroom, and grade the driveway a little bit... it's fine for cars, but not so great for motorcycles. Met Cindy twice, and spoke to Darla several times...they couldn't have been more friendly or accommodating. We enjoyed a campfire every evening, as well as a lovely bottle of home made jelly and even a bottle of wine! Now that's a personal touch you can appreciate 😀?. Take out food is close by, and the scenery is gorgeous. Would come back to this spot in a minute.

We came up here for a beach wedding all the way from Ottawa. The Ladies went above and beyond to make to help make our special day amazing. We would definitely stay here again. Also they helped us find a amazing priest to marry us. Also if i could post pictures i would just to show how much work theses ladies do.

We spent a delightful month in this lovely home. Close to good shopping, beautiful beaches and great sightseeing. Lots of good places to eat. Cindy and Romelda treated us to home cooking and preserves. If you are looking for a comfortable and friendly place to stay, this is it.

We had a most wonderful week at this gorgeous home. Work still in progress on the renovation, but very close. When you walk in your first word will be, Wow!!! Lots of room, very sunny and bright. Many views of the water just across the road(very little traffic) Everything we needed was provided and more. Cindy and Darla are wonderful. They made us feel at home. Walter is the ultimate host. Thanks for your vision, Walter!!
