Quintessential Hudson Valley, just over an hour north of NYC, charming and peaceful 1950s cabin with private lake dock on beautiful Lake Dutchess. This non-motorboat, quiet, peaceful private lake is the perfect setting for the Fall foliage, Winter snowscapes, Spring blooms, and Summer swimming. Take a canoe ride (provided), fish (PLENTY of bass), a summer dip, or even an ice skate in the winter.
Immersed in the woods, this cozy log cabin is a perfect mix of rural/rustic charm and updated, modern appeal. Gut-renovated in early 2015, the cabin has an open living room with skylights, huge windows to the lake, and a retro fireplace. Three small bedrooms branch off the living room, two rooms with a queen-size bed each, and one with a bunk bed. One updated, white bathroom with shower. The kitchen comes fully equipped with new appliances and opens up to the dining room, which has a wall of windows to the lake. From there, you can exit onto the top deck of the house for the grill or relax on the patio furniture, or the porch swing on the lower deck. The house is built on a huge rock which is also great to lay on during the summers, or head down to the lake dock (just a few footsteps away), and hang out there, take a swim, or grab the canoe or paddle board.
Additional amenities provided include AC/Heating system, Wireless WiFi, fishing poles, canoe, paddleboard (summer) , firelogs (winter), high thread-count sheets, cotton towels, Beekman 1802 Toiletries, outdoor grill, washer/dryer, Apple TV with Netflix, Hulu, and HBO accounts, and most kitchen needs.
The location of the house is perfect. Though quietly nestled in the woods surrounded by nature, it is a mile or two from Interstate-84 which takes you straight to Beacon in 20 minutes. Metro North's Southeast station on the Harlem Line is 10 minutes away so a commute to NYC is very convenient for guests who need to come and go.
The area attractions include Beacon, which besides being a trendy Hudson Valley town right on the Hudson River with amazing shops and restaurants, is home to the world-renowned DIA Art Museum. And not much further from Beacon is the sculpture park Storm King, another must-see for any art-enthusiast. Other nearby Hudson Valley towns include Cold Spring, Carmel, Brewster, Pawling, and Wappinger Falls.
Summer activities in area include some of the best hiking in the country. Breakneck Ridge was named by Newsweek one of the 10 Best Hiking Trails in the Country. Trails.com named it the top hiking trail in North America! The Beacon Reservoir and Fire Tower is a nice hike too. Also, the iconic Appalachian Trail is less than a 10 minute drive from the house. The Hudson Valley area also has waterfalls, farms, horseback riding, and shopping. There is also Splashdown Beach, a water park 15 minutes away. During the winter, besides the frozen lake and beautiful snow-covered surroundings, there is Thunder Ridge Ski Resort 10 minutes away. The Autumn is amazing with the colorful fall foliage every which way and festivals abound. Go apple-picking at the beautiful Fishkill Farms, only ten minutes away. And of course Spring starts us into summer with the snow melting and the leaves and flowers blooming!
Please note, we do not rent to anyone under the age of 25, and have a 4 adult maximum (6 person max, if at least two children are included), as the bunk beds are best for children only. This is a peaceful lake community. PARTIES/LOUD GATHERINGS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.
During the Winter and early Spring months, four-wheel/all-wheel drive is highly recommended to access the cabin. There is a particular hill on the road that is tough otherwise.
