Overview

About the property

Original 1950s, Lakefront Log-cabin With Updated Amenities And Decor.

Quintessential Hudson Valley, just over an hour north of NYC, charming and peaceful 1950s cabin with private lake dock on beautiful Lake Dutchess. This non-motorboat, quiet, private lake is the perfect setting for the Fall foliage, Winter snowscapes, Spring blooms, and Summer swimming. Take a canoe ride (provided), fish (PLENTY of bass), a summer dip, or even an ice skate in the winter.

Immersed in the woods, this cozy log cabin is a perfect mix of rural/rustic charm and updated, modern appeal. Gut-renovated in early 2015, the cabin has an open living room with skylights, huge windows to the lake, and a retro fireplace. Three small bedrooms branch off the living room, two rooms with a queen-size bed each, and one with a bunk bed. One updated, white bathroom with shower. The kitchen comes fully equipped with new appliances and opens up to the dining room, which has a wall of windows to the lake. From there, you can exit onto the top deck of the house for the grill or relax on the patio furniture, or the porch swing on the lower deck. The house is built on a huge rock which is also great to lay on during the summers, or head down to the lake dock (just a few footsteps away), and hang out there, take a swim, or grab the canoe or paddle board.

Additional amenities provided include AC/Heating system, Wireless WiFi, fishing poles, canoe, paddleboard (summer) , firelogs (winter), high thread-count sheets, cotton towels, Beekman 1802 Toiletries, outdoor grill, washer/dryer, Apple TV with Netflix, Hulu, and HBO accounts, and most kitchen needs.

The location of the house is perfect. Though quietly nestled in the woods surrounded by nature, it is a mile or two from Interstate-84 which takes you straight to Beacon in 20 minutes. Metro North's Southeast station on the Harlem Line is 10 minutes away so a commute to NYC is very convenient for guests who need to come and go.

The area attractions include Beacon, which besides being a trendy Hudson Valley town right on the Hudson River with amazing shops and restaurants, is home to the world-renowned DIA Art Museum. And not much further from Beacon is the sculpture park Storm King, another must-see for any art-enthusiast. Other nearby Hudson Valley towns include Cold Spring, Carmel, Brewster, Pawling, and Wappinger Falls.

Summer activities in area include some of the best hiking in the country. Breakneck Ridge was named by Newsweek one of the 10 Best Hiking Trails in the Country. Trails.com named it the top hiking trail in North America! The Beacon Reservoir and Fire Tower is a nice hike too. Also, the iconic Appalachian Trail is less than a 10 minute drive from the house. The Hudson Valley area also has waterfalls, farms, horseback riding, and shopping. There is also Splashdown Beach, a water park 15 minutes away. During the winter, besides the frozen lake and beautiful snow-covered surroundings, there is Thunder Ridge Ski Resort 10 minutes away. The Autumn is amazing with the colorful fall foliage every which way and festivals abound. Go apple-picking at the beautiful Fishkill Farms, only ten minutes away. And of course Spring starts us into summer with the snow melting and the leaves and flowers blooming!

PLEASE NOTE: This cabin is NOT suitable for large groups or party weekends. The lake is a quiet place and more suitable for quiet getaways or small family vacations. No more than 4 adults and a maximum occupancy of 6 adults/children, strictly enforced.

We do not rent to anyone under the age of 25, sorry no exceptions.

During the Winter and early Spring months, four-wheel/all-wheel drive is highly recommended to access the cabin. There is a particular hill on the road that is tough otherwise.

About Jason

I am a Brooklyn-based designer and graphic artist, married to my husband Saar with a small, sweet dog named Annie.

Jason purchased this cabin in 2015

Why Jason chose New York

We fell in love with lakefront cabin life staying with a friend and enjoying all that their lake had to offer. We were looking for a similar weekend getaway and this lovely house just fell from the Gods it seemed.

What makes this cabin unique

We've often been told that the house works both for someone who wants a rustic, authentic cabin-feel, as well as for someone who may perhaps not want to leave all modern conveniences aside and appreciates art and design. It's comfortable, cozy, tasteful, and can be as adventurous or peaceful as you make it. It seems to please almost every type of person needing a break from city life.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The cabin is very clean, very cozy, and so very, very cute! And we got a lot of use out of the lake, which was pristine. We will be back!

Perfect marriage of rustic and modern ...

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely little log cabin in the woods! Perfect setting for fishing -- the bass are plentiful and rubber worms work great -- and relaxing. We enjoyed the kayak and canoe and appreciate the life preservers that were provided. Loved sitting on the dock in comfy Adirondacks and appreciated the outdoor towels for after boating.

Inside is comfortably and simply furnished, yet it had everything we needed—from good books to games and puzzles, plus TV and A/C and WiFi. We appreciated the top-notch linens and bath products and well-stocked kitchen (w quality cookware) and the gas grill on the top deck. No need to pack spices or condiments; they are all there, along with dish soap and towels. (We've stayed places that required us to bring our own soaps, towels, etc., so this was especially nice!)

Loved that we could bring our dog, who enjoyed exploring the new sights and smells or just chilling on the dock with us. Took him to the Red Rooster in Brewster for lunch but otherwise stayed at the house. We all enjoyed ourselves immensely and highly recommend for a couple or small family.

Great experience on the lake!

  • 5 of 5

My family spent two weeks at the cabin during the summer and we had a great time! The space is a little small for 4 people but would be perfect for a couple. We really enjoyed fishing, boating, and paddle boarding on the lake. The house is very clean and well stocked. Jason is a very good host and responded immediately whenever we had a question. Overall, this was a great experience and a fun summer get away!

Cozy place with everything we needed!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I brought our two kids and two dogs, and while the place is on the smaller side, it allowed our family to really interact with each other, and offered everything we needed! GREAT place to catch fish!! We caught a dozen fish, and only two were too small to keep, the rest were truly large bass that made it onto the dinner table! Also, this place was ideal for us to combine the great outdoors and NYC life - easy as a hub for road trips, and well connected to the highways!

Jason was very responsive from the beginning, and very helpful when we had questions while we were there. Thank you, Jason!!

We definitely recommend this place and would consider it again!

A perfect rustic getaway

  • 5 of 5

This cabin and its surroundings are enchanting. The cabin is very clean and accomodating. The views of the lake - from the dining area, living room, the two decks and the dock- are totally relaxing. It’s like being in the Adirondacks. We swam, canoed and kayaked every day. We enjoyed cooking on the excellent gas grill. We will especially miss the hummingbird who hovered continuously throughout our stay. Thank you, Jason, for sharing the peace that this amazing cabin provides.
