1 Bedroom, 1 Bath In Lavish Garden, 2 Blks To Bay Beaches, 15 Min To Cape May
A watercolor artist for over 35 years, I have become a gardening fanatic since the purchase of this simple Villas, New Jersey property in 2010. Also an animal lover and owner of a spoiled Lhasa Apso named Chloe', I have made special accommodations to invite hummingbirds and butterflies into my garden to feed and thrive. I was drawn to this quaint town after embarking on a body of artwork called "Streets of Cape May" where entire streets of the historic town are illustrated in vibrant panorama watercolors. Wanting to start a large garden as an added palette to my creative portfolio I searched outside of Cape May and found the perfect location for all I needed to express. Wanting to share these surroundings with other art and garden enthusiasts (other than my family) I have opened up my home's private apartment to those who thirst for all of the special beauty this area has to offer.
Lisa purchased this Apartment in 2010
Why Lisa chose Villas
I fell in love with Cape May on my first visit and was compelled to dedicate my artistic career to capturing it's glorious streets in watercolor panorama paintings. I also yearned to start a significant garden, having outgrown my postage stamp size yard in Philadelphia. How perfect was my find when I ventured north and happened upon a town called "Villas" where the reasonably priced cottages offered the land that I was in search of. Just a bonus, of course, that the bay beaches were just two blocks away allowing my little dog, Chloe' the ability to satisfy her own desires.

Beautiful quiet getaway
Just right for two people and the dog. Beautiful grounds. Lisa was helpful and answered questions about her garden. Cottage was big enough and kitchen okay for breakfast and lunch. Villlas has neat streets of mostly well cared for houses. Easy to walk any distance by using different routes. Beach was nice, hardly any other people or dogs. Side trip to Higbee Beach was interesting, we saw the Cape May-Lewes ferry come in and dock.
Quiet and pretty
We loved the quiet neighborhood and the pretty gardens surrounding the cottage. It was very clean, and you couldn't tell that it was a dog-friendly property -- usually those places show evidence of pets, but this home didn't. Our interactions with Lisa, the owner, were friendly and pleasant, and we enjoyed seeing her local artwork and visiting her shop. She recommended great local restaurants, which saved us money vs. eating in Cape May proper. I plan to book again next year.
Lovely Sweet Pea
Sweet Pea is a lovely little cottage, perfect for a retreat from
the hustle and bustle. Short distance from Cape May and the beaches. Lisa is friendly and welcoming to her guests, as well
as our furry friends. Great stay.
Beautiful, clean and quiet place for 1 or 2 people. Allowing a small dog is such a bonus for those who love our “babies”.
The cottage is well located, well equipped and decorated with care. We enjoyed the beautiful peaceful garden and the gazebo for meals. Lisa provides a lot of information to discover Cape May. It is necessary to take advantage of the proximity of the beach for the sunsets and the great walks.
Lovely property conveniently located
Perfect cottage for a single person and a small dog. It would also be fine for a couple who didn’t want to spend a lot of time indoors. Cooking would be a little difficult due to the small space but all the necessities were there simple breakfasts and lunches. The garden and surrounding property are beautiful and the owner is accessible but not intrusive. Overall a lovely experience.
"It's Better on the Bay!" That's what I tell people who ask why they should choose to stay in Villas, NJ when wanting to tour historic Cape May.
Simply put, if you are traveling with your dog the expansive bay beaches, only two blocks away, are available for mile long walks with your best friend (and significant other) every day of the year. The quiet fall months are especially enjoyable with warmer weather than you might expect.
For an added doggie-treat take your four-legged friend for a meal at Harpoon Henry's where pups of every shape and size are allowed to languish under the tables as "the people they own" enjoy a casual meal while watching the sunset. (click on links and video for website)
Additionally, offering all of the amenities of any small town such as restaurants, bars, parks, laundromats, grocery stores, gardens and much more. Just driving around the neighborhood offers a feast of small home gardens where proud property owners are eager to talk about their plants.
Historic Cape May is a 15 minute drive for beach activities, dining, festivals, art shows, dinner theater, water sports, whale and dolphin watching, wine tasting, trolley tours, walking tours, bike riding, sight seeing, golf, mini golf, batting cages and almost anything else your imagination will allow.
The Wildwood Boardwalk is a short drive away as well with a water park and all kinds of activities not to mention local restaurant fare and classic seashore treats like salt water taffy.
If seafood is on your mind you won't have to venture any further from your rental suite than a few blocks to get the best take-out seafood in Cape May County. "Fish and Fancy" has some of the tastiest local seafood at the most reasonable prices you can find anywhere. So don't bother to drive into Cape May for a great meal; Fish and Fancy is proud to call Villas, NJ home. (click on links and video for website)
If bird watching is your thing Cape May Point is the biggest migration point in the world, hosting thousands of visitors a year from the professional participants in the World Series of Birding to the beginner with their first pair of binoculars.
Mid Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC), the organization that helped to secure the town of Cape May's place as a historic landmark, is host to many summertime events. Take a tour of their website to make sure you are here for your favorite activities. (click on links and video for website)
