About Lisa

A watercolor artist for over 35 years, I have become a gardening fanatic since the purchase of this simple Villas, New Jersey property in 2010.

Also an animal lover and owner of a spoiled Lhasa Apso named Chloe', I have made special accommodations to invite hummingbirds and butterflies into my garden to feed and thrive.

I was drawn to this quaint town after embarking on a body of artwork called "Streets of Cape May" where entire streets of the historic town are illustrated in vibrant panorama watercolors.

Wanting to start a large garden as an added palette to my creative portfolio I searched outside of Cape May and found the perfect location for all I needed to express.

Wanting to share these surroundings with other art and garden enthusiasts (other than my family) I have opened up my home's private apartment to those who thirst for all of the special beauty this area has to offer.

Lisa purchased this apartment in 2010

Why Lisa chose South NJ Shore

I fell in love with Cape May on my first visit and was compelled to dedicate my artistic career to capturing it's glorious streets in watercolor panorama paintings. I also yearned to start a significant garden, having outgrown my postage stamp size yard in Philadelphia.

How perfect was my find when I ventured north and happened upon a town called "Villas" where the reasonably priced cottages offered the land that I was in search of. Just a bonus, of course, that the bay beaches were just two blocks away allowing my little dog, Chloe' the ability to satisfy her own desires.

What makes this apartment unique

Not just your average rental, this dwelling sits inside gorgeous BayRose Garden, with three seasons of floral beauty. Additionally, the owner is available for private tours or just feel free to roam the gardens on your own. If you are an avid or beginning gardener be sure to ask for the plant tag book for specific plant information and enjoy the BayRose Garden diary that has been left in your suite for personal garden stories and information.

Not only do you get to enjoy the colorful garden display, but the cottage walls are decorated with the original “Streets of Cape May” panorama series to enjoy and even purchase to take home with you.

(please see the entire series at: )

The owner is on the premises and available to you 24/7 with local information, garden tours and personalized dog-sitting services. Not just walking and feeding, but if you dog needs extra attention, more time will be spent than just the average sitter. So if you want to spend a night at the casinos in Atlantic City, rest assured, your best friend will be well cared for with overnight company.

***Pet care rates vary depending on specific services.

The Sweet Pea is a cozy, 1st floor, cottage style apartment and is only suitable for two people who are not looking for "wide open" indoor spaces. However, it is well appointed and pristine. The square footage of the space is 325 (10 1/2 feet wide and 31 feet long). The private gazebo is octagonal 10 X 10 square feet, also perfect for two that would like to dine or relax.

A Perfect Getaway Weekend Cottage

  • 5 of 5

The Sweet Pea Cottage was just perfect for my husband and I and our little dog. It is immaculate, well equipped and tastefully decorated. It is located down the block from the dog friendly bay beach in a quiet neighborhood. The owner, Lisa, is an artist, animal lover and gardener. She offers dog walking/sitting services which we took advantage of when we went to Atlantic City for a concert Saturday night. I truly enjoyed our stay, especially chatting with Lisa about gardening and getting a tour of her garden with its unusual and beautiful plantings. A lovely place - I highly recommend it.

Owner's Response: Beatrix, my new best friend, loved her walk and especially her treats afterward. I was so glad that this couple entrusted me with their adorable seven month old Welsh Corgie. The three of them had a fine time at Sweet Pea Cottage.

Charming and comfortable accommodations!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I needed an escape weekend, so we were very fortunate to discover the Sweet Pea Cottage! Lisa, the owner, was accessible and helpful from before we even got there, helping us with the reservation process. She not only answered all our questions quickly, but went out of her way to find information for us about activities in the area that matched our interests. She recommended good places to eat and tours to take in Cape May.

The cottage is surrounded by a beautiful garden, and has a screened in gazebo (to keep out the usual New Jersey mosquitos). The accommodations themselves were attractive, comfortable, complete and beautifully kept. We enjoyed being able to visit Cape May with all its activities, but still go back to our "own place" to relax, walk on the bay or go hiking nearby.

Many thanks to Lisa for making our escape a truly relaxing and fun, experience.

My Fiancé, I an our doggie Rocky stay here for a few days in Aug.. We never went on vacation with him before an were really nervous how he would be. But when I walked in I couldn't believe how clean everything was it was like being at home!. Rocky just walked right in like it was nothing.

I will say that the pictures don't give this place justice. Its amazing and quite, Was right up out alley, We normally say in wildwood, Lisa was great, sent me links an texts for tons of place to go and see in cape may.

The atmosphere is amazing, you feel like your at home at the shore, you don't normally get that on vacation.

You will see us again!

Owner's Response: A wonderful young couple with their darling dog, Rocky. All three had such a good time and I was so glad to provide a place where Rocky could run and enjoy the bay beach. I sometimes don't expect young people to be so tidy and respectful, but this young lady really impressed me. I only had to put out sheets and towels for the next guests. I look forward to seeing them again.

There are some things in life that you want to keep a secret. It's something that belongs to just yourself! However, there are some things that must be shared and Sweet Pea Cottage is just that. It should be shared. (Although I'd like to keep it all to myself, haha).

First, Lisa is a wonderful hostess and her gardens are impressive! She covers all of the basis.

Located on a beautiful wooded corner lot and a pleasant walk to the bay, Sweet Pea Cottage is immaculate, quaint, quiet and comfortable.

Lisa opened her home and heart to our rescue dog Angel, aka Little Dog who is in what I call dog rehab. Our trip to Villas could not have been better as a result of her kindness.

The cottage is also Lisa's art gallery which is pleasing to the eye. The Cape May street scapes she does are beautiful and made the cottage that much more lovely.

Over thirty years we have stayed in Cold Spring Camp ground - before kids. Then, Cape May close to the beach when we had our kids, then off to the Pont just to see what it was like. But, as an older couple sans kids, we sought out a whole different vibe and this is just what we were looking for.

We will return in the spring!

Owner's Response: This was our 2nd visit from a rescue Chihuahua and she couldn't have been cuter. Her owners were exceptional guests who were able to kick back and enjoy the peaceful aspects of the cottage and BayRose Garden. They also left the accommodations neat as a pin. Looking forward to seeing them in the spring!

Perfect 10 days

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a wonderful time at the sweet pea cottage. Lisa was a great host and had fantastic recommendations. I would recommend exploring Cape May's wineries and breweries. The house is perfect and a few blocks from the bay with beautiful sunsets and great walking for the dogs. It's an easy drive into town and other area attractions.

We had a wonderful time - hope our baby wasn't too fussy :-)

Owner's Response: A delightful, young couple with a nine month old baby that was not at all fussy. So glad they enjoyed the local winery catalog that was provided in the cottage. They got out every day with baby Michael in tow and really enjoyed seeing the hummingbirds outside their window. Their two dogs, Cosmo and Fred seemed to have fun as well.

We found the perfect spot !

  • 5 of 5

There are not enough positive words to describe staying at Sweet Pea Cottage. As soon as we walked in we knew it was perfect. The photos cannot due justice to the cottage or the gardens. The art work is amazing. Each time I admired one I noticed something I missed. The gardens are beautiful. We enjoyed relaxing in the gazebo. The main reason to stay here is the owner. Take all of her suggestions, were were not disappointed. Lisa goes above and beyond to ensure your stay is great. It starts with having muffins and eggs ready for you on your first morning. The Trolley and Physic Estate are well worth your time. We loved walking the girls on the beach (only 2 blocks away). Driving to Cape May is easy. The farm markets along the way have fresh fruits and vegetables. Higbee beach is very relaxing and pet friendly. Having stayed at many VRBO homes this is one of the best and deserves a 10.

Owner's Response: Two delightful guests with the sweetest Lhasa Apsos (photos now featured on the Home Away website). They are the same breed as my Chloe' only much better behaved. Super clean and considerate and left the Sweet Pea in perfect order. So glad the foursome had an opportunity to explore the bay beaches and all this area has to offer.

"It's Better on the Bay!" That's what I tell people who ask why they should choose to stay in Villas, NJ when wanting to tour historic Cape May.

Simply put, if you are traveling with your dog the expansive bay beaches, only two blocks away, are available for mile long walks with your best friend (and significant other) every day of the year. The quiet fall months are especially enjoyable with warmer weather than you might expect.

For an added doggie-treat take your four-legged friend for a meal at Harpoon Henry's where pups of every shape and size are allowed to languish under the tables as "the people they own" enjoy a casual meal while watching the sunset. (click on links and video for website)

Additionally, offering all of the amenities of any small town such as restaurants, bars, parks, laundromats, grocery stores, gardens and much more. Just driving around the neighborhood offers a feast of small home gardens where proud property owners are eager to talk about their plants.

Historic Cape May is a 15 minute drive for beach activities, dining, festivals, art shows, dinner theater, water sports, whale and dolphin watching, wine tasting, trolley tours, walking tours, bike riding, sight seeing, golf, mini golf, batting cages and almost anything else your imagination will allow.

The Wildwood Boardwalk is a short drive away as well with a water park and all kinds of activities not to mention local restaurant fare and classic seashore treats like salt water taffy.

If seafood is on your mind you won't have to venture any further from your rental suite than a few blocks to get the best take-out seafood in Cape May County. "Fish and Fancy" has some of the tastiest local seafood at the most reasonable prices you can find anywhere. So don't bother to drive into Cape May for a great meal; Fish and Fancy is proud to call Villas, NJ home. (click on links and video for website)

If bird watching is your thing Cape May Point is the biggest migration point in the world, hosting thousands of visitors a year from the professional participants in the World Series of Birding to the beginner with their first pair of binoculars.

Mid Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC), the organization that helped to secure the town of Cape May's place as a historic landmark, is host to many summertime events. Take a tour of their website to make sure you are here for your favorite activities. (click on links and video for website)

In closing, I just can't say enough about my favorite place in the world, so come and see for yourself, you won't be disappointed.
