Lake Todd is located in Newbury NH and is within minutes of Mount Sunapee and Lake Sunapee.
The cottage and setting were exactly as described. Lovely vintage feel inside with clean, renovated kitchen and bath.
The absence of TV and wi-fi was the selling point for me. The loons on the lake were plenty of company.
The provision of bottled water in the frig was welcome, as was the proximity to Dunkin Donuts for coffee, as i forgot to bring my own.
The owner was friendly and helpful, testing the gas fireplace to assure that it would work in the cool evenings.
A pleasant getaway.
We had an awesome weekend here. The owner is extremely helpful. The cottage has great views of Lake Todd giving the option of a quiet, relaxing weekend, or one with lots of water activities.
Just a heads up that there's no wifi or cell coverage (AT&T). This is fine if you're looking to get off the grid for a few days, but we didn't plan ahead with directions & other things that you take for granted with the internet available at all times.
I enjoyed a wonderful four day stay with my husband and two best friends. The house was nicely appointed with ample cooking supplies, beach chairs, fishing rods, firewood, charcoal and the great canoe. It was so much fun and so peaceful! Our hosts were very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. We were even surprised with fresh corn from their farm.
We especially loved the fire pit by the water where we enjoyed a great campfire every night and marveled at all the stars we could see. The canoeing was fun too. (could use a new paddle). Relaxing and reading on the enclosed front porch with the view of the lake was also a group favorite.
There are two supermarkets within 10 miles and plenty of places to go out to eat if you don't want to cook.
I would highly recommend if you are looking for a place to unplug and relax and enjoy nature.
When you enter this cabin, you can smell the wood--and to us, that was a very pleasing smell. The place was immaculate, newly refurbished, and with excellent taste. We greatly appreciated little touches--nice fabric place mats in a sideboard; wine glasses on the same; a beautiful wooden table that connects the space from a newly finished porch to the old cabin living room. Appliances were new and in good working order, the kitchen was well-stocked with utensils and such (great pan for pancakes--a staple on our vacations). The outside was equally tidy with a nice, soft mulch bed that did not get muddy when it rained, a picnic table, two basic grills with charcoal and lighter fluid in the shed. The lake is down the slope of the front yard and across a minor street. The beach is wonderfully sandy, and there are chairs, a fire bowl, and a beautiful canoe there. We used the canoe often. My wife saw two bald eagles on one of the lake islands one morning. My son and I saw a great blue heron another morning. We saw and heard a pair of loons constantly. And the sunsets were sublime. We did not have service and there is no wifi at the cabin--that is one of the reasons we chose it, and it's a big reason why we would go back if the opportunity arose. We were very close to many natural attractions we wanted to see. I might only note a couple of things: we could have used a second extension cord to arrange fans when the heat picked up, and we did not bring blankets. I think Judy told me to bring blankets, linens and towels when we first talked last winter, but by packing time in August, when I looked up what to bring, I only saw notices for linens and towels. We solved both of these problems easily, and our time at this cabin was pure rest and rejuvenation in nature. If that's what you're looking for, I can't recommend this place, and Judy as a hostess, highly enough.
My little family and I had a wonderful time at this little cabin on Lake Todd. It has two bedrooms and plenty of sleeping space which was great for my two little boys. No cell reception, no internet, and no tv - which was GREAT. It was so nice to slow down a bit. The beach was fantastic and my three-year-old never wanted to leave the water. I really appreciated the nice kitchen, which had everything I needed. The furnishings were comfortable and full of character. The view of the lake through the large windows was calming and very nice. We are glad to have spent the week here. Thanks again.
We stayed for three nights the second week of June. The cottage and views of the lake were amazing. Pictures don't do it justice. Our entire family wished we stayed for a week. We brought our kayaks and toured the lake and did some fishing. The lake is super clean and there was absolutely no waste. The lake is very quite--there are no jet skis, no motor boats so it was very relaxing just to hear the owls, loons, and other birds making sounds. There is a tackle store a few miles away which was very convenient since all of us like to fish. The cottage has all the necessary things for a relaxing stay. I also would like to say that everything was spotless and Judy (the owner) was very accommodating and responsive. Thank you.
