Overview

Big Bend House Rental Photos and Description

House, Open plan, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-6)

The coolest upscale rental in Marfa by far. This gorgeous home was built by 'Garza Design + Build' from the ground up. It was incredibly thought out to be magical and open. The natural light floods in the orange casement windows making it airy and bright. The vaulted steel and pecan ceilings make this home spacious and inspirational. Perfect for a personal retreat or a get away with friends and family. This property is enclosed by an 8 foot adobe wall creating a private, secluded compound. Enjoy the built-in outdoor bbq, xeriscape landscaping, indoor wood burning fireplace, central air conditioning and heat, sleep in loft, huge deep soaking tub and rain shower, tankless water heater. The kitchen has state of the art appliances including all of the dishes and utensils you need. It also has a new washer/dryer, large 15 foot in home theater dvd projector system for movie nights and a portable Bose ipod dock. It has a large antique dining table for intimate dinner parties. It’s family friendly (not childproofed), pets are allowed with deposit. All premium towels and linens are provided as well as down comforters. Store your items in the walk in closet. It sleeps 4-6 (can include queen size blow up mattress for additional people and couch bed sleeps one). It’s conveniently located in town on the main thoroughfare. A perfect landing for film or photography crews as well. Come have an incredible experience in Marfa where sweet dreams await you. Lounge on the screened in porch, outside in the peaceful garden or inside this beautiful home. Make it your own.

Keywords: Upscale, private, located on main thoroughfare, conveniently located in town.

Fabulous Marfa Experience

  • 5 of 5

Everything we were looking for in a rental -- the back yard was perfect for star gazing, and the serene, stylish interiors we're perfect for kicking back and relaxing.

Second stay, Still great

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at La Mistica and it was great. The space is open, light and very comfortable. We stayed both times with our 18 year old son who loves the loft. The owner/manager is easy to deal with and very nice.

As mentioned in a previous review, the bathtub/shower is a bit kluge, but did not deter us from coming back, and we plan to do so again.

Stunning base for a lovely weekend

  • 5 of 5

This place was perfect for our stay. We are four friends, all interested in art, and were looking for a nice place to celebrate a birthday. The place was immaculate and well designed. The layout of the house really encourages socialization. We were comfortable enjoying conversations on the patio, cooking dinner together, and lounging about. The location was great as well. Other reviews have mentioned trouble with the shower; once you figure it out, it really is not a problem at all. (And the problem is just that the water pressure is too high, which is better than the alternative.) Couldn't recommend this place more.

Wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at La Mistica for New Year's and had wonderful time. It's a beautiful home, especially for those that enjoy a clean, minimalist environment. The space is large, especially with the very secure garden. We had our dog with us and we were very comfortable letting him explore and enjoy himself. The house was stocked with everything we needed and the owner was attentive throughout the process. We would definitely stay here again (and we look forward to it). The house is as described, but note that there is one queen sized bed on the main floor. There is another bed on the loft, which is accessible by a ladder. The wireless internet connection worked great, but there is no cable or satellite TV. There is a projection system for showing DVD's. We enjoyed watching Casablanca on the giant. white wall!

really great property, we would stay again

  • 4 of 5

super cool, very marfa. well appointed with a fireplace and beautiful spaces. the loft space is for grown ups only in that there is no railing. so definitely not for young children. my only reason for the 4 stars and not 5 is that the shower is not practical and sprays outside the tub/shower space. so a bath or spritz bath is a must.

otherwise it is a 5 star property and we would definitely stay again. the manager is great and easy to work with. the kitchen is good and with good appliances.

Funky house

  • 3 of 5

La Mistica is a cool house on the outskirts of Marfa but do not book expecting a luxuriously appointed property. It is basic in design and amenities, there is not enough comfortable seating for lounging and enjoying the fireplace and what little furniture there is has seen better days. The kitchen could be a dream to use but lacks even a basic microwave and beware the bathroom - the rain head shower covers more of the bathroom floor and walls than anyone stood underneath it, although this is not a major problem as the entire room is practically finished in stylish concrete. However, as the temperature struggled to reach 25f at night while we were there and there is no heating vent in this room, you do not want to hang around!

The grounds are great, the location quiet and for a 2 or 3 night stay, suited our needs. We were 4 adults visiting Marfa from Dallas for the first time and were more disappointed in the town than we were the actual house. Do not go like we did, expecting a bustling, trendy, eclectic community. Marfa is a bit of a dead end town - remote with hardly anywhere to shop or eat. Beware the often mentioned Cochineal restaurant. We tried to book over the phone on 3 occasions and on each was met with a 'you must be joking' kind of response and on the night we were told to go for a space at the bar, was greeted with chaotic, rude staff that even if they could have offered us a table we wouldn't have taken it. All we can say is thank goodness for the local grocery store!

We would actually stay at Alpine should we ever go back again only because there was marginally more going on.

Owner's Response: Thank you for leaving a review. The showered had been replaced over Thanksgiving, and I would have been happy to have it serviced had we been notified during your stay. I inspected it after reading your review to ensure that it was working correctly. The house has Central HVAC, which I also confirmed was working today as it was 24 degrees outside and the house was 70. Marfa is a town of 1,891 people that gets stretched to the max on holidays and event weekends. With the new hotel opening in March, 3 more restaurants on the way, and 2 others with plans to reopen, the crowding issues should be alleviated.
