Eric & Suzanne are Pacific Northwest Natives who enjoy fishing, hiking, skiing, and generally enjoying everything the Olympic Peninsula has to offer. They have owned the Hood Canal cabins since 2001, when they embarked on a painstaking renovation. We hope you love the cabins and Hood Canal as much as we do.
Suzanne purchased this cottage in 2001
The West side of Hood Canal offers both salt-water fun and hiking opportunities in the Olympic Peninsula. We can scuba dive, snowshoe, hike the Staircase, fish, and mountain climb, all within minutes of the cabin. Very few places in the world offer such diversity. Oh, and did I mention the oysters right outside the front door?
It's very relaxing. Not just the view of the water , fun on the beach, a soak in the hot tub or storm-watching in the winter, the cabins are warm and inviting. We're less than 2 hours from Seattle, but you really feel like you've gotten away from it all.
Having searched for the "perfect cabin" for months, we spotted this one early on but kept searching and kept going back to it and we're so glad we did. We stayed for 4 nights and wished we had longer as the cabin was as enchanting as the view from the deck. The weather was nothing less than perfect and on Tuesday we never left the confines of the deck chairs all day. We were perfectly content to watch the tide come in and go back out. We also were fortunate enough to witness 6 killer whales about 1/4 mile off the beach as they fed on they're prey. Wednesday there were several sea lions sleeping on the raft right in front of the cabin when we had our morning coffee on the deck. All in all, a great stay, perfect cabin, perfect hosts, perfect weather, we can't wait to go back, respectfully, Tim and Margie
This cottage was perfect and lived up to all of the pictures, descriptions and reviews....right down to the neighboring seals! Everything you needed was provided, well taken care of and decorated in the cutest way. Not to mention the owners were great to work with, very responsive and totally understanding of our situation.
The location is perfect and right on the water. The beautiful picture window allowed you to see the beautiful and relaxing scenery throughout the day. We even took our 3 year old son on the tail end of February and still found time to play outside on the beach, swinging on the tree ropes, looking under rocks for creatures and skipping rocks. I definitely plan to come back in the summer!
My wife and I had a wonderful time. Suzanne was great to deal with and everything was as advertised. The afternoon high tide was really cool. Water crashing up against the bulkhead. I can only imagine how much fun it would be in the summer time.
My husband and I visited recently for our second year in a row from the Phoenix Arizona area, a much needed vacation for both of us. We absolutely adore this little cottage and everything the area has to offer. From the beach with all the oysters, to the seals basking on the raft, this place is a little slice of heaven to us! It is quiet, comfortable, quaint, and just all around perfect. God willing and the creek don't rise, we will be back each year for our annual R and R. Thank you Suzanne for creating such an amazing place for folks to get away and relax!
Friends and I stayed our second "year in a row" at the "little" 1930's cabin. We had stayed at the larger cabin last year with more people. This was the night of the "blue moon". Temperatures were in the 90's. It was like going home! The cabin is simply lovely. The combed wood interior, old round oak table, two hide-a-bed sofas, very efficient kitchen, and - remodeled - comtemporary (nice contrast!) bathroom were great. Windows open from kitchen and bath giving full view of the canal to the whole cabin. Sitting on the deck, listening to and watching the Harbor seals gave us unending laughs. Our neighbors (an extended family on either side of us) were wonderful, offering us some of their oysters they gathered, and even shucked them for us!!
Suzanne easily accessible - great to deal with. We hope to continue visiting this site yearly!!
With temperatures in the 90’s it seemed like a prefect weekend to head to Hood Canal. Starfish Studio Cottage was perfect. The cabin’s interior is dark because of the paneling but once the many wonderful windows are thrown open it lightens right up. We never closed them, not even during a stormy (lighting/thunder) day or in the evenings. (There were no mosquitoes) If you are the type that needs to take a break from heat the interior was always pleasantly cool. The house is situated so that our north deck with table and chairs had sun from early morning until 5 pm. For the two of us, there was plenty of room to leave the Murphy Bed down and still easily move around the cottage. The canal is just 6-8 steps down a concert stairway and was warm enough for swimming and there are oysters everywhere for the picking. During our slack tide times you do notice highway noise and the seals can make some pretty rude sounds during the night. Our first night we saw a 6 otters at play on the up turned row boat float and the highest number of seals out on the submerged float numbered 13! Our neighbors were great. One recommended the burgers at the Eagle Creek Saloon and the other recommend the hike and swim at the falls in Dosewallipis State park. For particular sleepers note that Suzanne uses feather pillows which can be squishy and the mattress is on the softer side. Kitchen was great, big sink, good stove and good sized fridge. There is a full dry spice rack, some basics: corn oil, vinegar etc in the cupboard and a good sharp knife. Bigger coffee cups would be a plus! Thanks Suzanne!
