Beautiful, warm and relaxing
This beautiful, well-kept, magical little cabin was just what we needed. Canoeing, cooking, reading and resting made up our most lovely long weekend here. The construction noise next door was a bit loud at times, but overall the house was perfect.
We had a great stay at this nice cottage and we were so grateful that we could bring our dog with us. We came for a few days during the week in August and the lake was very quiet, so we could swim to the middle of the lake and the surface was like glass for going out in the canoe and kayak. So nice to have those boats for us to use. We did notice a lot of very big boats on docks, so my guess is that it is a very different atmosphere on the weekends. During the week a lot of the cabins and houses around the lake were not occupied (a few seemed abandoned) and the house next door was doing some big construction work (maybe check to make sure that's finished when you go). The beds are mats and were fine for us for a few days, I'm not sure how we'd do with a whole week, but that's just personal preference (we did bring a memory foam pad that you put on dorm room cots on one of the pads and that worked really well). We went up to Lake Winnipesaukee to check it out and see Muir Beach and have lunch one day, so that's a nice day outing. Overall, we thought the cabin and lake were really lovely and we had a really great time there -- and we were so happy to have our dog be able to be with us for our only family vacation of the summer.
Lovely Spot, Lovely Place, Lovely Host
We enjoyed our time at Stone Turtle House. The pond is lovely to swim in, paddle on and throw balls for the dog. The setting is typical of New Hampshire and the neighbors were friendly. We had a small hiccup during our stay and the owner was extremely accommodating. If it matters to you, know that, as in most bodies of water in NH, there are motorboats and they are used. The fire pit, canoe, kayak and floats were all provided and a wonderful way to enjoy the water.
My family and I had a lovely time at the lake house cabin for the long weekend. Unfortunately weather was not on our side and it rained us out but we were still able to have a wonderful time. It was great to be able to bring the dogs with us and not have to leave the house for a few days. We have already booked our time for next summer. Thanks again!
Relaxing Swimming Fishing Kayaking and some more Relaxing
Spent a very pleasant 5 days at the Stone Turtle, already planning our return! Great spot to disconnect and just relax. Spent most of the days swimming fishing and kayaking, and taking our pups swimming to get them nice and tired. It was hot while we were there, up into the 90's, but the house stays fairly cool all afternoon in the shade.
Just what the doctor ordered!
Perfect romantic getaway! It was quiet for us, we think going the week after the 4th might have been a good reason. The lake was perfect to float around in (very clean) and swimmable. We fished (small mouth bass and sun fish were abundant). There are water toys (canoe, kayak) available and all seemed to be well-kept. No grill that we could use. The fire pit was huge with nice seating provided. There was also a picnic table off to the side. The deck was smaller than what the pictures featured, but in great shape. Nice for morning coffee and watching the dragon flies land on you. Bring lots of bug spray! Inside the place was well appointed. The shower was enough to do the job, but don't lean up against it! Water pressure was perfect. Kitchen/dining area was stocked. Mr. Coffee machine was available with plenty of coffee filters. 2 dorm style refrigerators (none had freezing capabilities). The socks were a great touch. We loved the loft area for sleeping and a queen sized high air mattress fit just perfect. The loft was also perfect for meditating and doing some mat yoga (keeping in mind the low ceilings). Windows in some of the rooms need TLC and eventually I found the screens to hold them open. Fans provided were enough to offer relief on the hot days. Nights were cool enough for comfortable sleeping. The dock was easy access to the water and the stairs on the side of the dock were helpful too. April was very responsive with questions and was a pleasure to deal with. We will definitely be coming back in the future!
