Overview

About the property

2 bed, 1 bath cabin high in the mountains surrounded by nature and wildlife

This log-and-stone style cabin is located high in the Blue Ridge mountains at around 3,000 feet elevation. It is in the same area as the Shenandoah National Forest and this property borders the park land. You will not find a more private or mountainous cabin to stay at than this one. You will not see another human being for a half mile in any direction, but you'll see plenty of deer, bear and wildlife! Inside the cabin, you'll find spacious living areas, comfortable bedrooms, a fully stocked kitchen and large HD televisions.

When you look up "remote getaway" in the dictionary, there's a picture of this cabin! :-) Come to rest, relax, have fun and take pleasure in nature's finest wonders. Leave business, nagging email and your hectic work schedule behind for something quiet, peaceful and relaxing!

We've recently worked on filling out the beautiful outdoor area beside the cabin with a large campfire pit, free firewood (stacked and ready for you, look at pics) and hot tub. This yard area has beautiful views of nature.

This cabin is located "up Tanner's Ridge" as the locals say. In the pictures, you'll see two pictures showing the beautiful overlooks and mountains that you see as you drive to and from the cabin. You'll want to stop and get your own pictures on the drive.

**PLEASE NOTE for January - March bookings:** During these winter months, we strongly advise that a four-wheel drive (4WD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) vehicle is required. While there are plenty of dry weekends during those months where a regular vehicle would be fine, you cannot know that in advance. Please take this warning seriously for those months. The rest of the year, regular 2wd vehicles are fine.

Nice cabin but dated

  • 3 of 5

My sister and I came for a girls' weekend in August, hoping to hike and enjoy the fabulous scenery of Shenandoah.

The cabin was very sweet and in a lovely spot although altogether rather dated, and dusty/musty. The bedrooms felt very damp and the a/c unit in one of the rooms very old and noisy. The cabin was well equipped and had everything we needed. We didn't mind dated but it would have been nice if it had been a little cleaner (the fridge had a spill in it and had not been cleaned since the last visitors, pans were dirty, little piles of dust in the corners of the rooms, etc.)

We had a lovely weekend although there were a few bits of information we wished we had known before we booked. We were a little surprised at the off road trail (about 20-30 mins of driving) we needed to take to get to the cabin. I do have a 4 wheel drive car but it would have been tricky if not. Also the cabin itself is located quite far from the entrances of the park, the nearest is Thornton Gap, and we did more driving than we initially thought we would need to.

Owner's Response: This review contains misleading and inaccurate information. While we're glad they enjoyed their stay, a number of things stated here are downright false. (1) First, it is NOT 20-30 minutes of driving on "off road trails". They are not trails, they are nicely-graded gravel roads and we are happy to provide pictures. And it is only about 5-8 minutes on the gravel road depending on how fast you drive. 30 minutes??? Completely untrue unless you are walking. Again, please contact us for pictures and mapping and we can easily prove this. (2) Second, a four-wheel drive vehicle is absolutely NOT required and it is very easy to drive with a normal car. In winter time, we recommend it because of ice or snow build-up but this guest stayed in August. Regular 2WD cars go in and out all the time (including our staff's). (3) We pride ourselves on cleaning. Our cleaning process is very rigorous and involves a long checklist. We will look into the fridge and dust comments, but we always clean these areas between guests, so I believe this is also misleading. In terms of noise, I believe the guest was revering to a dehumidifier that is running in one of the bedrooms. If it was too noisy, it's very easy to turn off.

Quiet & relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We were given very clear instructions on how to get to the cabin, instructions on how to use appliances, connect to internet, etc. This made everything very smooth before, during, and after our stay.

Location of the cabin is great for rest and relaxation. It is quiet and isolated but also had a community within the mountain that could easily be contacted if an emergency arose.

We were able go to and explore Shenandoah National Park as well as other attractions in the area like Luray Caverns easily.

Amenities were great. We had everything we needed in our cabin. Owners were always available to call if we needed any help or had questions.

Owner's Response: Levi, thanks for the kind words. You were a pleasure to work with. We got that internet connection fixed right after you left. There were a couple cables on the device that were rearranged incorrectly. We hope to see you all again soon!

Perfection.

  • 5 of 5

Your Cabin was the site of the greatest vacation I've ever taken. Perfectly equipped with anything you could need, this home away from home combines all the necessities of a rustic Cabin with several luxuries. When the proprietors say you only need your food, clothes, and toiletries, they mean it. Ok -- maybe some cling wrap, but besides that, you're covered. We were perfectly equipped for a week hiking in Shenandoah Nat. Park, and slept well in your forest haven. In between, we enjoyed outdoor dinners on the picnic table, grilling on your charcoal grill, playing Guess Who until too late. Thank you for setting the scene for one of the greatest weekend retreats I've ever had.

Cute mountain cabin

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was small but well-appointed, including a hot tub and great views of the Shenandoah mountains. They were quick to answer questions and everything was well taken care of.

Great pet-friendly cabin

  • 4 of 5

This place is great for a weekend retreat from the city, especially if you have dogs. The owners were very welcoming of our 100 lbs Bernese. The hot tub and fireplace were also huge perks! It's pretty isolated, but close enough to attractions like Luray. We ended up going to Third Hill Winery, which was about 30 minutes away, but worth the trek. The only downside, I'd say, is that it's pretty tight quarters and the walls are very thin, so if someone's up early in the kitchen, there's no way you're sleeping any later. That said, the living room area is very spacious.
