About Alexandra/Stefan (Owner)

Brought up in the hotel and restaurant business and over 52 years of vacation rental experience we understand what our guests are looking for.

Why Alexandra/Stefan (Owner) chose Carbondale

Because we care very much that our guests really have a wonderful time when they come to stay with us.The property is one of only 11 properties that is actually at river level. We think that our animals, the 62 ducks, frogs, daily visits from "Big Boy" the heron, the horse who thinks he is a dog and plays with a live bear (see youtube) and our dogs make it a fun place to stay as well.

What makes this apartment unique

On the 40 mile stretch of the Roaring Fork, this home is right on the river's edge. This is one of the few properties where the bike path and irrigation ditch are NOT between the home and the river.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is my third stay here. I come here to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city, Hong Kong to be precise. I usually leave as fit as fiddle after my wonderful bike rides up and down the valley, the wonderful clean air and all round healthy life style. I sleep so well in that oh so comfortable bed. Listening to the River at night lulls me to sleep. My children come with me sometimes and discover something new each time I come. Can't wait to come back!

We keep coming back

  • 5 of 5

This is our third year staying with Stefan and Alexandra and they have become dear friends. We love this place, the peacefulness and the sound of the Roaring Fork at night from our bedroom door. Everything is perfect for us. We especially love seeing Wasabi, the horse, wandering around and we have spoilt him terribly by giving him carrots regularly! Can't wait to be back next year.

We didn't want to leave

  • 5 of 5

I always hesitate to write a stellar review for this wonderful place as I don't want too many other visitors competing for reservations! This is our fifth year staying with Stefan and Alexandra (and Wahsabi and Evie....sadly Spanky passed away recently). They have become dear friends and we look forward to our visit every year. We have never stayed at a property so well equipped and where the owners are so accommodating to all requests. We love the sounds of the Roaring Fork at nights, having Wahsabi trot up to the back door begging for carrots and the myriad duck families wandering around. This truly is a 'Bit of Heaven'.

Perfect homebase for riding the Rio Grande Trail

  • 5 of 5

If you’re like us, you’re going to read all these positive reviews and think it’s too good to be true. But you should believe them. If what you want is a peaceful, private place to stay, with friendly hosts and a central location for hiking and biking, this is the place.

The apartment is a duplex with the owners, Stefan and Alexandra, living on the other side. They go out of their way to provide privacy, but also are accessible if needed. Upon arrival, Alexandra gave us a full tour of the apartment. They’re simply lovely hosts.

The location is very quiet (no road noise) and private directly off of the Rio Grande Trail which goes the full 42 miles between Glenwood Springs and Aspen. We selected this home because of the location and were able to bike the path easily, store our bikes safely on the property, and also get to Carbondale by bike, foot, or car easily. There is also a bus system along the valley for those who want to hop on, with or without bikes. There is ample hiking nearby as well, whether you choose to stay near Carbondale or take a day trip to the Aspen area. The apartment is surrounded by bucolic green space along the river, with outdoor seating to enjoy a meal or just relax by the river. The laid back resident horse, Wahsabi, two old dogs, ducks and croaking frogs added to the ambiance.

The apartment itself was very comfortable for the two of us. Super comfy king sized bed with selection of pillows to satisfy all preferences. We slept with screened window and doors open, listening to the river and waterfall outside.

The apartment was very clean and appointed with high class touches (eg, ample fluffy bath towels, china and glassware, etc.). Internet, while somewhat slow, was sufficient for our use. We didn’t cook much but if you want to do so, the kitchen is fully equipped and there also is a gas grill outside available for use.

We highly recommend this listing. Thank you, Stefan and Alexandra for a perfect stay.

We loved The Island!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights at the end of May, and it was the perfect spot for the beginning of our vacation! The house was very clean and comfortable, and has the most well stocked kitchen I've ever seen in a vacation rental. (Don't bother bringing your own coffee and tea!) The location is excellent when it comes to making day trips or going out to eat, then great to come back to in the evening and sit out by the river with a glass of wine. Alexandra and Stefan are great people who's company we enjoyed immensely, but they also gave us plenty of privacy. I would highly recommend this beautiful oasis for anyone who wants to be close to attractions, but in a nice quiet and beautiful location!

What a find!

  • 5 of 5

The “Island” was such a wonderful find! Alexandra and Stephan are so kind and easily accessible, if needed, but everything was so nice, we did not need to reach out to them for anything. The property is so peaceful and secluded and we loved sleeping at night with the door and window open with the fresh air and sound of the river right in the back yard. Bonus is Wahsabi, their beautiful horse. He came walking right up to us on arrival and I just loved having him around. The accommodations were wonderful and everything we needed was provided, even the bathrobes, which came in handy for the hot tub use on chilly evenings. We hope this place is available every time we visit the area.
