The area under the house has a screened in porch next to the lagoon. Here you will find an outdoor shower (bug free), a table with chairs, and a ping pong table.

There are hardwood floors throughout. The house exterior has been re-sided and painted in the winter of 2014 for a new, clean and fresh look.

Why Vickie Shallcross chose Charleston Area

Edisto Island sits in the middle of the costal area of the 350,000 acre ACE basin- one of the largest intact costal ecosystems on the east coast. This protected area is home to many endangered and threatened species. Wildlife is abundant which was evident from this house we purchased in December, 2011. The design of the house brings the outdoors in and the large, high decks place you in the flight pattern of snowy egrets, ospreys, eagles, and more. If one desires to venture from the beauty and privacy of the house the ACE Basin National Refuge and Botany Bay Island are very close and provide multiple hiking and boating options in these protected settings.

What makes this house unique

Privacy, easy beach access, great shelling, non-motorized boating on site possible, crabbing and fishing on site, gournet kitchen, large outdoor living space with fantastic views of a lagoon, marshes and ocean. The many windows looking out over the lagoon provide constant viewing of the many different birds feeding. The marsh and surrounding land provide occasional views of deer feeding particularly during hunting seaon (safe territory.)

February Getaway

  • 5 of 5

The house and views are amazing. We so enjoyed our little February getaway. The house is beautiful. We could also enjoy beautiful sunrises and sunsets every day. This property worked out great for our 7 person stay.

Most everything already said about this property is true. It is a wildlife refuge (deer, egrets, herons), fishing oasis (I caught a 20 lb red drum.), shelling beach, minimally developed, relaxation station. There are a lot of steps as with many beach houses, but these lead to lagoon and lagoon to beach views that frankly cannot be beat at sunset or sunrise. In fact, we found ourselves hurrying back to the home or choosing to eat in or pick up our meals to enjoy the views nightly.

It is a Natures Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

Our family loves Jeremy Cay, Edisto Island and Natures Retreat! The views from this house are the best!! Your home away from home. Natures Retreat has everthing you need for a very relaxing family vacation. Clean, Cozy, spacious house with very comfortable beds, well stocked kitchen and even an icemaker. From the decks we watched eagle soar, deer roam and witnessed amazing sunsets. Our grandson watched Dolphins heading back to the ocean from a nearby creek and loved finding beautiful sand dollars on the very private beach. We enjoyed riding the golfcart around the island looking at the many birds who make Jeremy Cay home. Highly recommend the Natures Retreat for making memories with your family or finding that special place to just relax!! Thank you Vickie for sharing your home with others!!

Perfect Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Nature's Retreat was perfect. If you are not familiar with Jeremy Cay, it's a hidden gem on Edisto Island and is ideal spot for those seeking a beach vacation without all of the hustle and bustle of a busy, commercialized beach. The house was spacious, the beds cozy, and the kitchen was ideal for all meals. The icemaker spoiled us - seriously considering purchasing one for our home now! We took our kayaks and fished in the lagoon behind the house several times each day. We caught creek shrimp with the cast net right at the landing as well as blue crab, flounder, and redfish. The inlet was a natural "lazy river" and the kids enjoyed floating back and forth as the tides rolled in and out. It was one of the most relaxing vacations we've ever had! Cannot wait to go back. Thank you so much for your hospitality Vickie!

Spring Break 2015

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 (37yr old adults and kids 19, 14, 11) LOVED this property!!! Secluded, but within 10 min (driving) to bi-lo grocery, a 3-5 min walk to the beach and the drive into Edisto on 174 was magnificent lined with weeping moss trees. The house was clean, well appointed, very spacious, and the deck spaces were just AMAZING!!! All of our tech loving kids were happy with the wifi, but enjoyed the surrounding nature more! The beach was so private and shells so plentiful, a shell lovers dream. We picked strawberries and enjoyed some of the best pie and corn casserole ever at Kings Market. We didn't eat on the island, although there were plenty of choices, we found some excellent resturants 30-45 min away (Stono Tomato Shed and Old Firehouse, recommend both highly) And cooked a few delicious meals at "home" in an expertly stocked kitchen. We also took day trips to Charleston (very easy drive, less than an hour) and Savannah, GA. Our trip was made great by staying at Natures Retreat, and we would recommend this property highly! Thanks for opening your special home!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write of your experience at my vacation home. Family vacations are very precious and going to a new spot can be a gamble. I try to do all I can to make my home as comfortable and easy as being at home. When I hear I have a happy renter I am very grateful. Jeremy Cay is a very special spot with abounding nature from the flora to the birds and animals, not to mention the ocean and its abundant shells. I am pleased to share it. Thanks for your trust and time.

Our 4TH wedding anniversary vacation at Nature's Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We want to thank you Vickie for sharing Nature's Retreat with us. The house was everything that is was advertised to be and more. We had a wonderful week despite the weather being more frightful than delightful. The sun finally made an appearance on Friday. The beach provided us with some very unique treasures. That's one thing we love about the beach at Jeremy Cay. A daily treasure hunt. Also we enjoyed riding around Jeremy Cay in the golf cart enjoying the scenery.

The pelicans and cormorants amused us everyday in the lagoon. Friday morning we awoke to three doe across the lagoon looking right in the window at us. Nature did not disappoint. We are already looking forward to our 2016 visit. There is no place like Edisto and the peacefulness and solitude of Jeremy Cay.

We will absolutely recommend Nature's Retreat to our family and friends. We ate at the Waterfront Restaurant twice, it is a very good place to eat. The rest of the time we ate at the house so we wouldn't miss any of the great nature that Nature's Retreat has to offer. Vickie was very accommodating to us from the time we inquired about renting her lovely home along with e-mailing us during the week to see that everything was OK with our visit. She is very pleasant and easy to deal with.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review. It was great to hear the pelicans and cormorants are back! I have enjoyed watching them toy with each other over fish in the AM while having my cup of coffee. It seems seasonal which birds show up at any point in time and I have missed their activity when I have been there the last few times. Also I appreciate you mentioning other finds in Edisto such as the Waterfront Restaurant. This helps other renters who are unfamiliar with the area. It was a pleasure working with you during your stay. Thanks for being great renters! Vickie
