Why drive 3-5 hours 'up north' from the Twin Cities when everything you want in a lake cottage/cabin getaway is so close? You will be less than 60 miles from downtown Minneapolis. (2) 24 hour grocery stores nearby; 10 minutes from Coborn's or 15 minutes from Cub. Plenty of restaurants nearby as well.
People have come from near and far to rent this property; Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming, Canada & Norway. That's 25 states & 2 other countries. 2016 is year #13 that we have been renting our property to new friends.
The cottage is 75 feet from the lakeshore. The front yard is level, meaning you can watch children playing near or in the water from inside the cottage. The yard has room to play croquet or badminton. Imagine relaxing in the hammock while your children play in the shallow water. Watch Bald Eagles soar, listen to Common Loons (MN State bird) hoot, tremolo, wail & yodel. You will probably see Bald Eagles & Loons every day. Watch boats cruise the lake. Have coffee on the dock & see the sun rise across the lake. Gaze at stars away from city lights. Roast marshmallows over an evening fire. Can you visualize your family getaway here?
This knotty pine walled cottage has 4 rooms including 2 bedrooms & 800 square feet. You have a direct lake view from 3 rooms. The front bedroom has a queen bed & lakefront view. The back bedroom with a bunk bed, converts to twins. All have very good mattresses. The kitchen is furnished with Cuisinart cookware, decorative Loon tableware & many appliances; microwave, toaster oven, blender, electric fry pan, coffee maker, bean grinder & a hand mixer. There is a window air conditioner capable of cooling the entire cottage on hot & humid days and a furnace to warm the cottage on cool days & nights. All the comforts of home except dishwasher & cable/satellite tv. Our TV antenna & set top tuner picks up all of the Mpls.-St. Paul stations (2,4,5,9,11,23,29) plus those in between stations; 5-2,3,4,5,6,7 11-2 etc. The stereo plays CD's & has a jack to plug in your iPod or MP3 player. Bring some books, DVD's or VHS tapes for when you've had too much fun in the sun & water. Do you need internet access? We have a WiFi hotspot available for rent. Cell phone coverage is good here with (2) towers nearby.
Green Lake (800+ acres) is the largest lake in Isanti County. You can see about 90% of it from our shore. It's big enough for dozens of boaters to do their thing while not disturbing people on shore. Our 72' long dock & the neighbors dock provide a protected swim & play area. Green Lake is not busy except July 4th & walleye fishing opener weekend. Walleye are stocked every other year. Largemouth Bass, Northern, Crappie & Sunnie fishing is self sustaining and very good. Bass, Crappie, Sunnie & Perch are easy to catch with worms from our dock. A bait shop is 5 minutes away.
Our lake & swimming area has a dark sand bottom with no rocks or muck. Swim out 150 feet & touch the lake bottom in about 6 feet of water.
Adults can use our canoe. The boats in the photos are not included in rental, nor can they be rented. You may bring a boat & tie it inside the 'L' of our sturdy 70 foot aluminum dock and park the trailer in our back yard. The public access has a concrete boat ramp/landing, & a parking lot for day lake visitors.
We are only 10 minutes from Princeton and 15 from Cambridge. Both have plenty of restaurants and a large 24 hour supermarket, a hospital & a laundromat if you need to wash clothes. The Hi-Way Inn bar/tavern is 1 mile away. Close enough to walk for burgers, pizza & drinks. 5 minutes east is the Pine Brook Inn serving steak, walleye & more. Shooter's Sports Bar (5 minutes west) has good food, live music on weekends, flat screen HD TV's, showing all the games.

45 minutes to Mille Lacs Lake for group 'launch' fishing trips & Grand Casino.
Tennis: Free courts available at the high school in Princeton. Horseback riding within 10 minutes.
Reviews: VRBO posts reviews that renters upload to this website. I have many other reviews from renter comments in our guest book & post rental emails which are posted under the 'About the Owner link.' 2014 was a year where we chose to not rent the property as often as in years past, which is why you won't see many reviews that year. Also understand that not every renter chooses to leave a review.

We are Tami & Stephen. We married in 1991 & have have 2 son's who love the lake property & water sports. This picture was taken 12/08 in Puerto Vallarta where we rented a VRBO condo.
Stephen Elias purchased this cottage in 1998
We bought this lake front cottage in January 1998 so we could spend weekends at the lake with our son's who were 1 & 5 years of age & our friends. We live about 60 miles away in suburban Minneapolis. Since then, we've made many great memories with family, friends, neighbors & renters. Fast forward to 2016. Our sons are 19 & 23 & busy with other activities. Consequently, the lake cottage does not get as much use. We started renting 13 years ago to good people we've met thru VRBO. We've also rented other vacation properties on VRBO. We understand both sides of the owner/renter process & provide a great experience & value.
At our place, you get the real lake cottage / cabin experience without the long drive up north. It looks & feels like the northwoods, (see & hear Loons daily) (watch Bald Eagles soar over the lake) yet you have comfort knowing civilization (hospital, 24 hour grocery, restaurants & liquor stores) are less than 10 minutes away. Our property is great for children. Some of our guests are grandparents who rent the place to spend time with children & grandchildren. Green Lake is the largest lake in Isanti County, which at 800+ acres larger than 2/3 of the lakes in Minnesota. You can see 90% of the lake from our yard. Our lake is big enough for boats & jet ski's to cruise around while not bothering other boaters or people on shore.
We had the most wonderful stay at your beautiful cabin, we hardly ever left. The kids (they have 2 young daughters) swam, we fished, canoed, had bon fires & enjoyed the property to its fullest. The last night was a full moon. What a treat is was to see it rise across the lake into the clear sky with Loons calling, a perfect end to our week. Thank you for sharing your home away from home.
I have stayed at this cabin for the last 4 years and really enjoy it.
It is right on the lake, it is quiet, and everything you need to have a relaxing time is right on site.
I am looking forward to my trip again next year!
My brother and I spent a week in early August and this was perfect for us. We were on a nostalgia trip back to the area where our Swedish immigrant family settled in the 1880s and where we lived until the 1960s, and this location was perfect for that. The cabin is modern, clean, well furnished and equipped, and very comfortable. We made good use of the kitchen and grill. It made the trip much nicer and more memorable than staying in a motel. Especially the great lake view.
What a darling place! We chose the lake cabin as an alternative to hotel living and we are so glad we did! The kitchen was well equipped allowing for some memorable meals, the cabin was clean and welcoming, I can't say enough good things about it!
We have two grandsons 16 and 19 who live in Princeton with our son their dad who has a small fishing boat. We all loved how we could dock the fishing boat on the cottage's boat dock. We went fishing and boating whenever we felt like it w/o any hassle. The boys loved the canoe and used it often. It was very nice that the yard was just above the lake level so my husband who has trouble walking could get to the dock and boat easily. Besides the abundance of birds (eagles, egrets, loons, hawks in the forest, and goldfinches) we saw large and small turtles and even watched a fisherman catch and release a large mouth bass right off the dock. We also loved the fire pit and cooked tinfoil dinners and had a hot dog roast. We spent our evenings around the fire. We worried about the bugs but they didn't come out until quite late. Our son and grandsons were able to sleep in their own home as the cottage was only a 5 minute drive for them. We definitely plan on enjoying this cottage again.
We brought our 3 boys (4 and under) and we all had a great time! They took turns with Daddy in the canoe, fishing off the dock and laying in the hammock. The cabin was comfy and got cool enough with the window air conditioner to sleep at night, even with a little baby. The sun room was the best part as my littlest could crawl around during the heat of the day, but there are so many windows it feels like you're outside. Great get-away! And the best part - it took us less than an hour to get there from Minneapolis.
The cabin was just the right size for the three of us. Plenty of room to spread out, and a great view of the lake from the sunroom. We had rain every day, but still were able to enjoy the local wildlife. We toured the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge and saw Sand Hill Crane with young. At the cabin we saw Great Blue Heron, Red-headed Woodpecker, Bald Eagle, White-breasted Nuthatch, Barn Swallow, Hummingbirds and, the best of all--Loons. What a Minnesota lake experience!
25 miles to Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge & Sand Dunes State Forest. 1 hour to Target Field. 80 minutes to Mall of America and MSP Airport. Grand Casino-40 minutes. National Sports Center-40 minutes. St. Cloud - 30 minutes, Lake Mille Lacs -45 minutes. See my video on You Tube. Search 'eliasgreenlake'.
