We try to keep the availability calendar up to date but don't adjust it every week. Please email about availability. We always communicate with potential renters before agreeing to share our 2nd home to people we never met before.
People have come from near and far to rent this property; AK, AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, IL, IN, IA, KS, MN, MI, NE, NH, ND, OH, OR, PA, SD, TX, WA, WI, WY, Canada & Norway. Currently 25 states & 2 other countries. 2018 is year #15 that we have been renting our property to new friends.
The cottage / cabin is 75 feet from the lakeshore. The front yard is level, meaning you can watch your children playing near or in the water from inside the cottage. The yard has room to play croquet or badminton. Imagine relaxing in the hammock while your children play in the shallow water. Watch Bald Eagles soar, listen to Common Loons (MN State bird) hoot, tremolo, wail & yodel. You will likely see Bald Eagles & Loons every day. Watch boats cruise the lake. Have coffee on the dock & see the sun rise across the lake. Gaze at stars away from city lights. Roast marshmallows over an evening fire. Can you visualize your family getaway here?
This knotty pine walled cottage has 4 rooms including 2 bedrooms & 800 square feet. You have a direct lake view from 3 rooms only 75 feet away. The front bedroom has a queen bed & lakefront view. The back bedroom has a bunk bed, which converts to twin beds. All have good mattresses. The kitchen is furnished with Cuisinart cookware, decorative Loon tableware & appliances; microwave, toaster oven, blender, electric fry pan, coffee maker, bean grinder & an electric hand mixer. Living room has swivel wicker chairs & a futon/couch/bed. Knotty cedar sun room has (7) (wrap around) lake view windows, a futon couch/bed & large dining table. The bathroom has stand up shower stall with optional hose spray nozzle (handy for bathing small children, ask me to install this if you want it) Bedsheets, blankets, pillows, bathroom & kitchen towels are provided, or bring your bed sheets & bathroom towels for a $25 discount. The window air conditioner is capable of cooling the entire cottage on hot days and the furnace warms the cottage when it's cool. All the comforts of home except dishwasher & cable TV. Our 42" HD TV receives over 40 local channels. There is an HDMI cable so you can connect a laptop. The stereo plays radio, CD's & has a jack to plug in your Smartphone, iPod or MP3 player. There are nature books for you to read, or bring your own books or DVD's for when you've had too much fun in the sun & water.
Do you need internet access? We have a WiFi Hot Spot available for rent. Cell phone coverage is good here & most people use their cell phones for internet access. If your phone has a setting for mobile Hot Spot & tethering, you can use it to connect your tablet or laptop like we do. Check your phone & plan. You will save money if you use your own data instead of having me order data for you.
Green Lake (800+ acres) is the largest lake in Isanti County. You can see about 90% of it from our shore. It's big enough for dozens of boaters to do their thing while not disturbing people on shore. Our dock & the neighbors dock provide a protected swim & play area. Green Lake is not busy except July 4th & walleye fishing opener weekend. Walleye are stocked every other year. Largemouth Bass, Northern, Crappie & Sunnie fishing is self sustaining and very good. We catch bass, crappie, & sunfish/bluegill from our dock with live bait. Live bait can be bought nearby.
The lake & our swimming area has a dark sand bottom with no rocks. Swim out 150 feet & touch the lake bottom in about 6 feet of water.
Adults can use our canoe. The boats in the photos are not included in rental, nor can they be rented. You may bring a boat & tie it to our sturdy 88 foot aluminum dock and park your trailer in our back yard. The public access has a concrete boat ramp/landing, & a parking lot for day lake visitors.
We are only 10 minutes from Princeton and 15 from Cambridge. Both have plenty of restaurants and a large 24 hour supermarket, a hospital & a laundromat. The Hi-Way Inn bar/tavern is 1 mile away. Close enough to walk for burgers, pizza & drinks. 5 minutes east is the Pine Brook Inn serving steak, walleye & more. Shooter's Sports Bar (5 minutes west) has good food, live music on weekends, flat screen HD TV's, showing all the games.
Friday night car racing at Princeton Speedway at Mille Lacs County Fairgrounds runs late April, thru early September. Multiple classes of dirt track racing: IMCA Modifieds, Sportmods, Stock Cars, Sport Compacts, Mod 4's, Micro Sprints & Super Stocks. Do a web search for Princeton Speedway for more details. Looking for a place to stay during the Mille Lacs County Fair? We are 10 minutes away.
Golf at Purple Hawk in Cambridge or The Princeton Golf Club. Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge & Sand Dunes State Forest are about 20 miles away. All easily located on Google maps
45 minutes to Mille Lacs Lake for group 'launch' fishing trips & Grand Casino.
Tennis: Free courts available at the high school in Princeton. Horseback riding within 10 minutes.
Reviews: Few renters provide a review online on the Home Away / VRBO website. I can't explain why & don't recall an unhappy renter ever. I have many reviews from renter comments in our guest book & post rental emails. These are copy & pasted under the 'About the Owner link.' Some years we don't do a lot of renting, which may be a reason why there are not many current reviews. Our preferred rental time frame is Sunday - Friday or an entire week, because we like to use the property on summer weekends.
Smoking?-We don't allow any smoking inside the cottage.
Pets? We don't allow renters to bring pets on the property or inside the cottage/cabin due to family members with pet allergies. If you have a disability or therapy dog or cat, we will not accept your rental. Sorry, no exceptions to this policy. Violation will result in immediate eviction & loss of all rent & deposit. Sorry about this policy, but it's been done elsewhere & we don't need the aggravation.
Rates: Mid-April - Memorial Day & Labor Day - mid-November: $110/night. 4 night minimum preferred during the off season.
Between Memorial & Labor Day: $150.00 / night (Sun. - Thurs) & $180.00 / night (Fri. & Sat.) Sat-Sat, Sun-Sun & Sun-Fri. are preferred rental time frames. 5 night minimum preferred.
Prices noted are for up to 4 people. Add $25.00 (total, not per night) to each rental period for persons # 5 & 6.
Holiday rates if available for rent (Rentals during Memorial Day, July 4th & Labor Day) are higher than these posted rates.
Add 6.88% MN sales tax to all rentals.
Rates are subject to change at any time at owners discretion
Six people maximum allowed on the property at any time during a rental. No exceptions. Violation of this policy will result in immediate eviction & loss of all rent & deposit.
$25.00 per rental discount if you supply your own bed sheets, pillow cases & bathroom towels.
$500.00 damage deposit, returned after re-inspection of the property. We take pride in prompt return of damage deposit (in cash at check out when schedules permit) Otherwise, a check or electronic funds transfer is sent ASAP after inspection.
No cleaning fee if you leave the place at least as clean as it was when you arrived. Cleaning supplies are provided.
Renters pay all fees related to online payments. We reserve the right to deduct these fees from the return of your deposit. I apologize for this, but Home Away & VRBO took away our ability to communicate directly. I'm not happy about this, but they changed the rules.
Compare this lake front cottage property featuring: (2) bedrooms, (2) living/social areas, (5) beds, large dining table, (optional internet) fully equipped kitchen, private yard, private dock, private fire pit, lawn chairs & table, private hammock, private 60 feet lake of shore/beach & use of a canoe, to the cost of a (2) bedrooms or a condo at a hotel or resort. This is a comparative bargain! If 4 people rent for a week, the cost /night/person is $46.51 including tax. 5 weekday nights = $40.08/person/night.
Note: Fireplace is an outdoor fire pit. Firewood is not supplied. If you ask, I'll lend a wheeled cart & hand saw & show you where to find wood to burn.
We have rented other VRBO properties. We know what renters want & provide a positive experience. In March of '09, we began using the renter comments & about the owners sections to read comments from past renters.
Inside the cottage is a notebook, full of information on the property and the area. Thanks for reading, I look forward to hearing from you!

About Stephen Elias
We are Tami & Stephen. We married in 1991 & have have 2 son's who love the lake property & water sports. This picture was taken 12/08 in Puerto Vallarta where we rented a VRBO condo.
Stephen Elias purchased this Cottage in 1998
Why Stephen Elias chose Wyanett
We bought this lake front cottage in January 1998 so we could spend weekends at the lake with our son's who were 1 & 5 years of age & our friends. We live about 60 miles away in suburban Minneapolis. Since then, we've made many great memories with family, friends, neighbors & renters. Fast forward to 2018. Our sons are 21 & 25 & have their own lives. Consequently, the lake cottage/cabin does not get as much use, which is why we started renting 15 years ago to good people we've met thru VRBO. We've also rented other vacation properties on VRBO. We understand both sides of the owner/renter process & provide a great experience & value.
What makes this Cottage unique
At our place, you get the real lake cottage / cabin experience without the long drive up north. It looks, feels & sounds like the northwoods, (see & hear Loons daily) (watch Bald Eagles soar over the lake daily) yet you have comfort knowing civilization (hospital, 24 hour grocery, restaurants & more) are 10-15 minutes away. Our property is great for children. Some of our guests are grandparents who rent the place to spend time with children & grandchildren. Green Lake is the largest lake in Isanti County, which at 800+ acres larger than 2/3 of the lakes in Minnesota. You can see 90% of the lake from our yard. Our lake is big enough for boats & jet ski's to cruise around while not bothering other boaters or people on shore.

Very cozy clean cabin.
Cabin was very clean and comfortable for my family of 6. Lake was a great size and able to do all water activities from swimming to wake boarding and fishing. I really liked the location and close proximity to Minneapolis but far enough up North to see loons and eagles daily. Look forward to renting it again with my family.
Dan & his family were terrific renters, we hardly knew they were there & left our cabin / cottage clean. We hope they decide to come back again & again.
Nice getaway. Plenty of kitchen items for cooking.
Sleep better here than anywhere else on earth. Quiet and peaceful. Nice repast while visiting family.
Perfect little spot
I have stayed at this cabin for the last 4 years and really enjoy it.
It is right on the lake, it is quiet, and everything you need to have a relaxing time is right on site.
I am looking forward to my trip again next year!
We are so pleased that you chose to stay at our place for your annual October visits & look forward to seeing you in years to come
My brother and I spent a week in early August and this was perfect for us. We were on a nostalgia trip back to the area where our Swedish immigrant family settled in the 1880s and where we lived until the 1960s, and this location was perfect for that. The cabin is modern, clean, well furnished and equipped, and very comfortable. We made good use of the kitchen and grill. It made the trip much nicer and more memorable than staying in a motel. Especially the great lake view.
Thanks for the kind words. We would love to have you return!
What a darling place! We chose the lake cabin as an alternative to hotel living and we are so glad we did! The kitchen was well equipped allowing for some memorable meals, the cabin was clean and welcoming, I can't say enough good things about it!
This group (3 mom's & 3 boys) came from Wyoming for the Schwan's Cup national youth soccer tournament at the National Sports Center in Blaine. Their commute was about 40 minutes each way. They were great renters & are welcome to return.
Grandparent getaway with grandchildren
We have two grandsons 16 and 19 who live in Princeton with our son their dad who has a small fishing boat. We all loved how we could dock the fishing boat on the cottage's boat dock. We went fishing and boating whenever we felt like it w/o any hassle. The boys loved the canoe and used it often. It was very nice that the yard was just above the lake level so my husband who has trouble walking could get to the dock and boat easily. Besides the abundance of birds (eagles, egrets, loons, hawks in the forest, and goldfinches) we saw large and small turtles and even watched a fisherman catch and release a large mouth bass right off the dock. We also loved the fire pit and cooked tinfoil dinners and had a hot dog roast. We spent our evenings around the fire. We worried about the bugs but they didn't come out until quite late. Our son and grandsons were able to sleep in their own home as the cottage was only a 5 minute drive for them. We definitely plan on enjoying this cottage again.
Thanks Mary Ann, We look forward to hosting your family again!

Additional information about rental rates
Before or after Labor day, we will rent the property for weekends only if schedules permit. However on weekday nights, we prefer at least 4 nights due to the time & effort away from work to prepare the property & meet with renters. Refer to rates in the property description for more detail about damage deposit and added cost for persons # 5 & 6 in your party. We don't allow more than 6 people per rental group. Payments: Personal checks or electronic payment is preferred. Home Away started a new online payment system in 2017. Contact me for a better understanding of this policy.
